  • Simple bell tent at a peaceful East Sussex adults-only site
  • Royal Tunbridge Wells and Ashdown Forest both 20 minutes' drive
  • Two fishing lakes on site; vineyard next door for tours and tastings
The peace and quiet of the East Sussex countryside, gorgeous rural views (especially at sunset), a pair of fishing lakes on site, and (this might just be the clincher), a vineyard next door for tours and tastings… If all that sounds like a fabulous mix, pack yourselves off to the wildlife haven that is Idle Hours Glamping, part of a three-and-a-half-acre site a few miles from Crowborough. You’ll need to leave the kids at home, however, as this is a strictly adults-only setup. There’s also a no-groups rule and a policy of no noise after 11pm, so you should be in for a nicely peaceful stay here. Your bell tent will be set up ready and waiting, with indoor and outdoor furniture (including a kingsize airbed), plus handy extras like a barbecue and indoor rugs. After that, it’s up to you – you’ll need to bring your own bedding, towels and anything else you need for a comfortable camping stay (there’s no electricity on site though, so don’t bother with lots of gadgets). For eating, they are also equipped with basic cutlery, two plates, bowls, mugs, cups, wine glasses and a few other bits. Amenities are a short walk away and include a hot shower, a hot-water washing-up area and separate ladies’ and gents’ toilets. And don’t forget your fishing gear, if that’s your thing – guests are welcome to fish for carp, perch, tench and roach in the two fishing ponds. Crowborough is a handy place to find supplies for your picnics or barbecue; you can also buy logs and kindling on site and hire a fire basket if you like. The town also has a good collection of places to eat, along with takeaways that will deliver to the site.
