  • Luxury glampsite five minutes’ drive from Battle Abbey in East Sussex
  • Hastings beach and the De La Warr Pavilion both 20 minutes’ drive
  • Smart lodges with barbecue kitchens and hot tubs in private gardens
Hidden away among the ancient battlegrounds of East Sussex and indeed just five minutes’ drive from the historic town of Battle, The Outside Inn Glamping is a rather luxurious hideaway surrounded by greenery and countryside views. At around 20 minutes’ by car from the coastal towns of Rye, Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea, the site’s location happily blends heritage with the pull of the stunning coastline and all its natural beauty. There’s just a clutch of very high-spec glamping lodges, all thoughtfully designed to provide every creature comfort and convenience. Inside each one, modern amenities include an ensuite shower room, well-equipped kitchenette and cosy sofa bed alongside a full-size double bed. Outside in the fenced gardens, everything is set up for outdoor living: you have a barbecue kitchen, firepit, chill-out area and indulgent bubbling hot tub – just the job for unwinding under starlit skies on clear nights. To complete this enticing picture, the site is thoroughly dog friendly (remember those fenced private gardens?), ensuring that every member of your family can join in your glamping adventure.

Local attractions

History buffs will be chomping at the bit to get to Battle Abbey (five minutes’ drive), site of a very famous set-too in 1066. There are audio tours and immersive displays on hand to explain more about that fateful day, and you can walk the battlefield, explore the abbey ruins and fill the kids up with ice cream at the café. Swot up on more history at the medieval defence castle overlooking the cute cobbled streets of Rye (25 minutes), lined with half-timbered cottages, or catch up on the latest contemporary art exhibitions in elegant Bexhill-on-Sea’s modernist De La Warr Pavilion (20 minutes). There are several options for days on the coast: take long walks along the shingle-and-sand stretch of Bexhill Beach, or join the kids for an afternoon of fun in amusement arcades on the lively Hastings seafront (both 20 minutes). Backed by a traditional promenade, the beach at St Leonards-on-Sea (15 minutes) is a popular spot for watersports fans, and if you’re happy to travel a bit further, Camber Sands (half an hour) is a swathe of soft golden sand and dunes.
