  • Peaceful site close to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales
  • Near the M6: 20 minutes' drive to Kendal, Morecambe or Kirkby Lonsdale
  • Dog-friendly site 100 yards from a farm shop and retail village
Can’t choose between the Dales and the Lakes? This conundrum comes up on many a northern break, so here's a site with a nifty location to keep your options open. Strange though it may seem, it turns out that a cracking way to explore national parks in Yorkshire and Cumbria is to settle down on the northern edge of Lancashire. Low Greenlands Holiday Park is in Tewitfield, a peaceful village with perks including canalside walks, miniature golf and fresh farm produce. Although many pass through here on the way to jaunts in the Lakes and Dales, there's plenty to get up to in this part of the world: aquatic adventure is on hand at the local watersports centre (five minutes' drive), while Leighton Moss, a wildlife haven popular with twitchers, joggers and sketchers, is also close by (10 minutes). This park makes a convenient base for all manner of stays, whether you're planning on spending your days locally or fancy roaming far and wide. There's a lot to like here, including spacious pitches, hillside views, handy laundry facilities and internet access. The site's pet-friendly rules, meanwhile, are good news for guests travelling with canine companions in tow. When the weather is fine, a good barbecue can't be beat: pick up supplies for alfresco eats at the local farm shop, 100 yards down the road.

Liked: WOW! Fantastic site!
I don't normally have expectations about sites we stay at, but from the pre-arrival messages (and inclusion of a site map), I had a great first impression!

The site is small, but private, and beautifully laid out. We loved the self-service nature of the site, despite not seeing any site wardens while we were there, the facilities were fantastically clean, and well stocked.

The ease of booking, travelling too, and staying at this site really has left a fantastic lasting impression with us.

Disliked: If I had to say anything, the WIFI wasn't the best, but it was in the middle of a field so we were grateful to even have internet, let alone free internet!

Liked: Peaceful small site in a great location to visit several different areas. The washblock facilities were warm and clean with liquid soap and washing up liquid provided and even relaxing music playing in the background.
Very good instructions sent in advance

Disliked: The emphasis on Campsite rules in the pre arrival information had us a little concerned whether it was going to feel very regimented, however this was not the case at all.
The M6 is nearby and a road runs behind the site. We noticed the noise the first night as we have a VW Transporter with pop top, the second night we pulled the top bed down before going to sleep and it made a huge difference. Presumably those without a canvas roof don’t hear the traffic.

Liked: Absolutely everything. We have been traveling the UK for 2 years and this site has a big thumbs up from us both. Facilities are excellent. Always a plus to have a laundry that doesn't cost a fortune. We stayed here in March so still quite. It was a great base to visit others. Lancaster (if you can, use the park and ride. £2 return). Morecambe Kendal and up the road is Carnforth which has various supermarkets. Loved this site it's a big thank you from both of us.

Disliked: no dislikes

Liked: Beautiful site - really small so it was a lovely atmosphere with the few campers that were there.
Toilet facilities were spotless, as was every inch of the site!
The farm shop is walkable, as is a little pub further down the road (although not sure of paths as we didn’t do the walk - we saw it when we were leaving!)
Having Wi-Fi on the site was a bonus too!

Disliked: Some pitches do require a longer hook up cable so make sure you take note of the instructions when you book! We were told of this so not a dislike more a warning to others as we didn’t have one long enough but the lovely atmosphere on site saw others offering to swap pitches with us and one camper even traded their longer lead with our shorter one 🥰

Local attractions

For kid-pleasing times, make Greenlands Farm Village your first port of call (100 yards from site). Miniature golf, a playground, archery and cuddly farm animals are all on the cards here (there's also a garden centre, restaurant and well-stocked farm shop for grownup guests). For a family-friendly day at the beach, head to Morecambe Bay (20 minutes' drive), where adventurous types can sort watersports and fishing adventures. Green-fingered guests heading up to the Lakes should call in at Levens Hall (15 minutes), a historic house near Kendal with top-notch topiary. Kendal (20 minutes) is an artsy town on the edge of the national park, a leisurely drive from spots like Lake Windermere (15 minutes from Kendal or 25 minutes from site) and Cartmel Fell (25 minutes or 30 minutes). Most trips down to the Dales, meanwhile, will pass through Kirkby Lonsdale, a market town on the river Lune (20 minutes). Stop off here to admire the scenery at Ruskin's View or for a stroll over the Devil's Bridge, or carry on for outdoorsy attractions like Hardraw Force and Malham Cove (both about an hour from site).
