  • Peaceful, isolated site on a secluded Lancashire farm
  • A half-hour drive from Blackpool beach and Forest of Bowland
  • Simple grass pitches down a long farm track, 10 minutes from the M6
Oh to be on a peaceful, secluded spot in the lovely Lancashire countryside, with forests, the Lakes and big cities not far off… such is the atmosphere at Moss Rose Campsite, a relaxing site about 10 minutes’ drive from the M6 and half an hour north of Preston. This is a splendid spot for those who’d like a bit of peace and quiet – pitches are on a simple grass field well away from any neighbours. You’ll have to travel down a long farm track to get here (it’s rather rough and bumpy, so take it slowly) but the reward is a spacious and secluded stay on a small traditional family-run working farm with views out over fields of farm animals. (The owners describe it as ‘somewhat alike to The Darling Buds of May’, for those who remember such telly treats.) Because of those farm animals, dogs are welcome as long as they are well behaved and kept under control. Kids are also very welcome, and you’re able to set up barbecues for your evening meal (as long as you’re careful with them…) There’s a pub a couple of miles away if you fancy a pint or a bite to eat. Day trips around here might take you to the coast at Blackpool or Morecambe, inland to the Forest of Bowland or Lake District or for a bit of city action in Liverpool or Manchester, both of which are a little over an hour’s drive away (also making this site also a good place for city dwellers who fancy a quick escape without a long drive).

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Set in beautiful Lancashire countryside , really friendly and helpful owner, campsite clean nice extras like the honesty shak , microwave .. could do with improved toilet and shower facilities however all in really good site. Recommend the enclosed pitch too and the Glamping or defiantly a positive review from us. Be mindful it’s a farm and you’ll be woke at 7 ish with the cock a doodling! Lovely site lovey owners

Disliked Toilet and shower not the best but good enough

Overall a lovely relaxing weekend had by my husband and I and our dog.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The spacing. The natural surroundings and the owner/s. So polite, helpful and ensured your stay was as hoped for
There was an added bonus of the hen and her baby chicks in the honesty/rest area.
Everything about this site was what I love. There is no cramped feeling. No noise (aside from farmyard animals- which being a country farming lass, this was a better sound than hearing others on larger campsites) the peace and quiet and everyone respected the rules.
My dog loved the space too

Location- No road noise was heard other than vehicles coming onto the site.

Parking on pitch- this was perfect due to having had a hip operation 7 weeks ago so the walk to the car would have been difficult otherwise.

Disliked The blooming horseflies!!! Wow...not the camps fault though....just a time of the year and the type of surroundings.

Location-Not an issue to us but to others who are used to 2 wide roads and would expect that, the journey in is on single track roads to the campsite, which are somewhat up and down due to being on old salt plains. Passing places along the way so careful driving needed along the roads.

A wonderful place just perfect 😊

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It’s a very beautiful place to camp - calm and peaceful! Wildlife comes out at nighttime, there’s an owl that flys near by! The honestly shack is also very helpful if you forget anything at home, it has your essentials / little treats!

Gorgeous, quiet, well-serviced site, highly recommend

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Rustic campsite, long grass with mown paths and pitches. Loads of wildlife, great facilities (toilets, showers, fridge, microwave, drinking water, honesty shop), lovely owners who can't to visit and were around on site to chat to. A few Wendy houses and slides for very little visitors, nature walks and farm animals to visit for older kids. All it was missing was a football pitch ;-)

Disliked Not the fault of the campsite but... Attacked by horse flies in the morning! Take bug spray and citronella, the bites are terrible!

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked The site was fantastic. We had ample space in our plot and had large space of wild flowers in between the next slot. Was not on top of each other.

Quite and peaceful.

Lovely setting.

Nice touch with the honesty boxes.

Clean facilities

Disliked Only issue was the toilets, but not that they are not looked after! But just the size. I am a pretty large chap and the toilet cubicle was very tight and hard to move in. Plus, it was 30+ degrees and it was like a hot box. (There is notes from sites owners saying new larger are on way. so a very minor negative)

Peacock Pod camping pod (hot tub)

Liked Wonderful stay at Moss Rose campsite. We had 4 pitches and the Peacock pod booked. The owners were extremely helpful and accommodating. The pod was clean and well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The hot tub was lovely and we were shown how to use this on arrival. The toilets and showers were clean and the 'honesty shack' well stocked. Really enjoyed our family get together at Moss Rose.

Local attractions

Before you get straight to your adventuring, there’s a farm shop and ice cream parlour called Wallings Ice Cream (15 minutes' drive) that will make sure your tummy’s well prepared for all the action. For action, the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour) is just the place - have a pedal between rural villages, picking up farm produce as you go. The Lake District National Park (45 minutes) has plenty more trails or watersports for those looking to get a dip in. But what about those city days out also? The bright lights of Blackpool (half an hour) are hardly far away, and for more sightseeing, Manchester (an hour and 10 minutes) and Liverpool (an hour and 15 minutes) make for some great day trips. If you’re a fan of the busy buzz and action Lancaster (half an hour) has museums and a city park or Morecambe (half an hour) has a splendid seafront… but for more wildlife instead, head to the Wild Discovery animal park (half an hour).
