  • Dog-friendly gravel touring pitches on the edge of Longton, Lancashire
  • Preston 15 minutes’ drive; 45 minutes to Blackpool
  • Footpaths starting from the site; dog park (extra charge) on site
Irish Sea beaches, nature reserves with excellent birdwatching, and traditional Lancashire villages with welcoming pubs are all within easy reach when you stay at Meadow Farm Holiday Park. This peaceful family-friendly touring site on a working farm sits on the outskirts of the village of Longton (about a 10-minute walk from its pubs, shops and takeaways). Gravel pitches all have electricity and water hook-ups, and on-site amenities include a toilet block, a shower and a washing-up area, plus recycling facilities. Your dog is welcome to join you here; however, you are advised to keep them on a lead around the resident sheep. But don’t worry: there are other places where you can let them off the leash, starting with the on-site dog park (for which there is a fee). Your canine companion is also welcome to join you as you explore the local countryside. Footpaths starting directly from the site take you to places such as Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve (15 minutes on foot), an area of wetlands with three large ponds for fishing. Or you can head to the tidal marshes along the local section of the Ribble Way (five minutes’ drive) and all the way to the Ribble estuary (40 minutes), whose sandflats are home to birds such as sanderlings and red knots. From the estuary, it’s a short hop to St Annes Beach (10 minutes), a vast expanse of sand that’s popular among wind- and kite-surfers.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

To give a 1 overall is a little unfair, you stated the cleanliness was high and location which we are grateful for, you did have electric and water supply next to your pitch.
We have only been open a week, sorry it said we had Wi-Fi on the description, this has now been taken off the website and I did message to let you know if was a mistake.
I text you before your arrival with information that you needed including pictures of the shower room and toilet facilities where etc.
Everything is stated on pitch up including photos etc, so to give a 1 overall.

Especially in the same week we had 2 x 10/10 reviews.

Lovely site if you want piece and quiet.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked This was our first time ever booking and using our caravan so we chose this site because it was fairly local to where we live. We have nothing to compare it to but found it to be perfect for what we needed. It was very well kept, very clean and had everything we needed. It was lovely waking up to the goats in the next field and the children really enjoyed playing football in the enclosed and safe field at the back of us. We needed to know a few things about the amenities so we communicated via text and received a reply very quickly. Overall, a very good first experience of caravaning.

Liked We liked this site as it was really neat, clean and well cared for. We loved being next to the animal field and the elephant was a nice touch. The toilet and shower were just lovely! Our stay was very short (arriving at 6pm and leaving at 7am) as we were trying to avoid the storm in Scotland on our way home to Glasgow. Communication from Stacey was great and very welcome. We did manage dinner at The Golden Balls pub which was delicious. Try a pie if you decide to visit. Booths and a Spar shop both a short walk away.

Disliked Was quite expensive compared to our other stays on this trip. We didn’t manage to get onto the wifi so don’t know how good it was.

Local attractions

When in Preston (15 minutes’ drive), check out the statue of Wallace and Gromit, the beloved claymation characters created by local lad Nick Park. Then grab a picnic and head to Avenham Park. On the banks of the River Ribble, this green space has a playground and a Japanese garden with a pond. After relaxing on its sandy beaches and checking out the arcades at its three piers, a day in Blackpool (45 minutes) might entail thrill rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach theme park, selfies with celebrity waxworks at Madame Tussauds Blackpool or a quick foxtrot with afternoon tea at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Attractions in the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (55 minutes) include the Tolkien Trail, with multiple paths through the landscape that is said to have inspired the land of the Hobbits; and Bowland Wild Boar Park, which is also home to alpacas and pygmy goats. From the top of Beacon Fell, in Beacon Fell Country Park, there are splendid views of Morecambe Bay.
