Campers having stunning views of the howgill fells

  • Wild-style pop-up rural Cumbria site in the Upper Lune Valley
  • Cautley Spout and Sedbergh within a 25-minute drive
  • In the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 10 minutes' drive from the M6
Netherings Campsite is a wild-style pop-up site in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, in a particularly fine spot for those guests aiming to spend lots of time exploring the area on foot. This peaceful Cumbria location is in the Upper Lune Valley 10 minutes’ drive from Kirkby Stephen, with gorgeous views out over the Howgill Fells. They’ll give you just a taste of what you might see while out rambling in the surrounding landscape – there are plenty of walking trails to wander along locally, or you can fill your days with other outdoor pursuits including fishing, horse riding and golf. Getting out on foot may take you off to some of the Dales’ top spots – from here it’s easy to get out to places like Cautley Spout, Radical Steps or the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail. And if having the whole of one national park to choose from isn’t enough, there’s much more to explore in the nearby Lake District National Park too – it’s just the other side of the M6 (which itself is about 10 minutes’ drive away). Back on site after your efforts, there’s plenty of space to relax in, and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue for alfresco cooking if you wish (although there are also a couple of pubs within a few minutes’ drive too if you’d rather someone else did the honours). Facilities are pretty simple, with just portable toilets and taps for drinking water in the camping field. Eggs and logs are both available to buy from the site team.

What customers say

This campsite offers a peaceful "wild camping" experience with stunning 360-degree views and exceptional hospitality from friendly, attentive hosts. Guests enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, opportunities for walks, and the option of fire pits with reasonably priced logs. While facilities are basic, they are generally clean and usable. The site is praised for its relaxing environment, with many visitors highlighting the beautiful scenery, sunrises, sunsets, and farm animals. Despite the basic nature of the toilet facilities, the overall experience is highly recommended for those seeking a back-to-basics, beautiful escape.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Amazing views, very friendly and helpful hosts - helped us to safely get a campfire going by providing paving stones and buckets of water. As per the description, it’s a basic site but if you want to get away from it all for a few nights, this is the place for you! We cooked on the fire but there’s good pubs close by with food options. And loads of amazing hiking spots.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Almost everything. As mentioned in so many reviews Paula and the whole family are amazing hosts on this tranquil site. Every thing is as described, and what it lacks.in facilities it makes up for in spades with it's position, and generally feeling. Views are stunning, I sat for so long watching the birds in neighbouring fields. There is a rustic, relaxing charm to this place. It did my soul good.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely spot!

The field is steeper than it looks in some pictures but there are plenty of flat areas to pitch up, so you'll be alright!

The large tree really ties the field together for a majestic feeling, especially during the late stages of the evening and the early stages of the morning, when you get that golden sun on the hills. Aside from that, the forward facing view is something special, with a variety of animal fields, rolling hills, and a valley in the distance.

Lovely host - super friendly, very helpful, polite, and considerate!

It's not a negative, but you should keep in mind that this is a working farm, and as such you might hear some machinery (be it a mechanical tractor, or the voice of a farmer) earlier or later than you might like if you're an early-to-bed/late-to-wake person, but nothing unreasonable!

Directions to the site are clearly given when you book. If you're polite like me, you might make a few stops along the way to check you're on the right path (road) but it's all part of the adventure of camping!

Some nice walks in the area. Yeah, great stay!

Disliked You're about three fields' distance away from a main road and it's MOSTLY quiet and peaceful, but sometimes the road-noise does make itself present. However, that's simply the cost for some great views!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Site was quiet, great 360 degree scenery. Hosts were attentive and very friendly. Guided us to a great walk within the distance of the campsite.

Basic facilities, but usable. True camping without the frills.

Was able to have a fire pit and they can provide logs at a very reasonable price.

We very much enjoyed our peaceful stay, away from the crowds.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This site is definitely camping on the wild side. The views over the hill are amazing with great sunrise and sunsets if your lucky enough.
On our visit the site was quiet and there was plenty of space to pitch up.
As described it is camping on the wild side, so the toilet facility is very basic but cleaned regularly.
There is a pub an easy 40min walk away and a service station 3 - 4 miles away that has great facilities.
The owners, could not be more helpful too.

Disliked As described it is camping on the wild side, so the toilet facility is very basic but cleaned regulary.
