  • Adults-only luxury shepherd's hut on a Cumbria working farm
  • Beach five minutes' walk; 15 minutes' drive to southern Lake District
  • Kingsize bed, firepit and wood-fired hot tub; dogs welcome
When you fancy a walk from the shepherd’s hut at Guards Farm Hidden Huts, you’ll face a choice – should you take the short five-minute stroll out to the local beach, or turn the other way for an equally lovely wander on the moors? If that sounds like the sort of dilemma you could probably cope with, plot a stay at this cosy and luxurious adults-only glamping hut in the Cumbria countryside about five minutes’ drive south of Kirkby-in-Furness. Although kids aren’t allowed here, dogs are very welcome. As well as having a couple of lovely places within walking distance, this location is also handily placed for jaunts into the Lake District National Park – the southern edge of the park is about 15 minutes’ drive away for walks and other outdoor activities. The town of Ulverston is handily also about 15 minutes’ drive away for shops, pubs and places to eat. Before you do any of that, of course, you’ll have to manage to get yourselves off site – and that could well prove to be tricky, as it’s very easy to feel settled here. For starters, this is a working farm so you’ll have a whole lot of livestock to greet before you go anywhere. And you’ll also no doubt have to dedicate some time to looking out of the window at the stunning views. The hut’s setup is equally enticing – it’s got a kingsize bed, a sofa and a TV for chillout time, an ensuite bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen (with a fridge, induction hob and handcrafted solid oak worktop). Outside, there’s a seating area with firepit and griddle, and the crowning glory: a gorgeous wood-fired hot tub.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: This was our second stay at Guard's Farm and it was just as perfect as the first. We cannot fault the accommodation or hosts. Emma and Paul are very welcoming and helpful. The shepherds hut is delightful, it has everything you could need and is superbly comfortable.
This time we visited Ulverston which was less than a 20 minute drive away. We did a glass blowing workshop at Cumbria Crystal and went for tapas at L'al Churrasco, both of which were fabulous. Emma and Paul are super knowledgeable about the area and happy to give any recommendations of things to do nearby as well.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: What a fantastic hut and location, could not have picked a better spot to have a relaxing weekend with a bit of exploring around the southern lakes. Hut is so comfortable and with an enclosed outside area for the dog this ticked all our boxes. Emma and Paul are wonderful friendly hosts and make you feel at home. The added bonus of the wood fired hot tub and short walk to the local beach gives you the perfect excuse to either relax or go off and explore the local countryside.

Disliked: Coming home, need to return.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: We drove for 6 hours to get to guards farm and it was worth every minute. From the moment we arrived we felt at peace, the setting is absolutely beautiful. Emma and Paul introduced themselves on our arrival, which was great as we then didn't feel awkward about being on their farm!
Although this is a working farm you still have a lot of privacy and the contact between Emma and Paul is not too much. We absolutely loved the little honesty shop, our personal favourite were the duck eggs! The hut is absolutely beautiful and clean. The hot tub was amazing, only for two people but it was enough for my 6'4" husband and I. We cooked steaks on lazy Jane (the fire pit) as the sun went down and it was wonderful. Emma was able to give some great recommendations for places to visit. We didn't get to manage them all, as she said when we arrived '3 days isn't enough!'. We absolutely plan to return to guards farm. It was so peaceful with beautiful views and great hosts.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: Wow what can I say about our stay here. It was perfect from start to finish. Emma and Paul are incredible hosts.
The hut is the best we have ever stayed in, the personal touches just make everything that bit special. The beauty, piece and quite was just what we wanted for our a anniversary trip. The hot tub was amazing too.
We walked along the beach the the little village Askam which was a stunning walk, and also met some lovely people who lived in the area. Can't wait to be back

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: Absolutely adored this place where we stayed for a week, the hut was so clean and comfortable. We felt so relaxed here. A good location to tour the Lake District and if you don’t want to go out beautiful walks to nearby beach especially with our dog who loved it. Plenty of good places to eat within a short drive and the hosts are absolutely amazing and super friendly we really hope to be able to go back.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: Picture yourself surrounded by such a picturesque environment. The families farm is so beautiful 😍
Your stay is a well established shepherd's hut. Equipped with everything you need (and more!!) Theres a smart tv, hob, microwave, kettle, the most comfortable bed!!, a modern a very clean shower!! and extra space with cupboards, and extra space under the bed) The hut is decorated beautifully and is deffinetly the right theme for the place!!

Outside you have great space AND A HOT TUB!!. If you have pets you even have room designed to keep them safe from possible hazards! Everything is so well planned out!! 😌

Myself and partner loved to go out at night and look up at the stars!!. We had never seen such clear skies!!!

WE MUST THANK THE FAMILY. They were so welcoming 🙏 they gave great advice when talking about wanting to venture to places!! We were lucky enough to be staying the same time a baby calf was born on the farm. We had such pleasure, visiting the mother cow and her calf. When we left there were many sheep in lamb!!

Overall this stay has been perfect and would definitely recommend!! Thankyou all Emma, Paul, Libby and Jack!!

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: My wife and I were fortunate enough to be the very first guests in this lovely shepherd's hut.
The hut itself was perfect, we had a lovely night's sleep in the very comfy bed. The kitchen was well equipped, we easily made our evening meal and breakfast using the hob. The owners had provided the essentials like tea and coffee which was a nice touch.
The bathroom had a lovely, warm shower.
There was WiFi and a television in the hut which both worked perfectly.
The outdoor, wood fired hot tub was absolutely great and very peaceful.
We went for an evening walk down to the beach to do some stargazing which wasn't far.
The field opposite the shepherds hut has some beautiful sheep in it. The location was unbelievably quiet and peaceful.
The owners were really lovely and very accommodating. We certainly hope to be able to visit again in the future.
