  • Lake District pop-up site in the foothills of Blencathra
  • Keswick, Skiddaw and Helvellyn all within a 10-minute drive
  • Simple, spacious pitches with a stream for paddling
The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: A lovely remote, quiet campsite with good facilities and nice walks straight from the campsite.

Disliked: We pitched up on the bottom field due to the others being quiet hill which meant it was quite a walk up a steep hill for the toilets and any water.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We loved our stay at Low Hollows Campsite! The facilities were excellent, clean, and well-maintained. The lady who checked us in was really friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression. There was lots of room, so the campsite never felt cramped, even with other guests around. The location is also fantastic—close to the beautiful sights of the Lake District while still feeling quiet and remote. We’ll definitely be back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great location, beautiful views and lovely river at the bottom of the campsite! Plenty of space so people arent camping on top of eachother. Water for washing and showers was really hot too! Will be staying here again

Disliked: Locks on showers and toilets can be a little tricky and gets busy at peak times

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Massive site, with a lot of choice of pitches. Incredible views all around. Good toilets and showers, although limited

Disliked: Bit of a trek to the water and facilities if you’re in the bottom 2 fields. I wish this site was open more than just weekends as I wanted it extend my stay but couldn’t. Also they appear to just take all rubbish in the same trailer, probably to landfill, rather than having recycling

Liked: Straightforward and laid-back. Warm showers and a place out of the wind and rain to cook. Great views of Blencathra. Well situated for Keswick and walkable pubs in Threlkeld
