  • Luxurious yurts in the Lake District, 20 minutes' drive from Keswick
  • Peaceful field on the edge of a farm 10 mins' drive from Cockermouth
  • Bedding, woodburner and fully-equipped kitchen in each yurt
Lakes Yurts does exactly what it says on the tin, getting you out on a jolly spent in traditional yurt style accommodation in the Lake District National Park. This site’s set on a working family farm with a friendly atmosphere just outside the village of Brandlingill, in a peaceful setting with scenic views over Lorton's valley and fells. So what exactly are the yurts like at this fab site? All measure 16ft and have coloured covers, cotton linings, a double sofa bed, two single sofa beds and bedding included. Each has a small woodburning stove (with a basket of logs and sticks provided to keep you toasty), a fully-equipped kitchen with a gas camping stove to get you prepping meals with ease, and a solar-powered lamp and fairy lights to illuminate evenings spent with the box of board games. Guests are given written info on the local area too, so they can go off on jaunts – including to lovely Lake District market towns like Cockermouth (under 10 minutes’ drive away) and Keswick (20) with their art galleries, historic houses and other attractions. For drives deep in the countryside, the lush Vale of Lorton and its Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater lakes are 15 minutes away. Back at the site, amenities are in the same field as the yurts and those not keen on sharing will be pleased to know each one has its own private picnic table, shower and toilet.

Liked: The location was amazing, wonderful views of the fells.
Great to have comfy beds and duvets and a nice log burner to keep us warm. The outdoor fire pit was great too and so good to have logs available to buy.
The enclosed field was perfect for my kids and dog so we could relax while they had fun.

Liked: We loved our 2 night stay here, wish it could have been longer. Everything you need is in the spotlessly clean, beautifully decked out yurt, perfect for good and bad weather, I felt like I’d been to a retreat after our time here. Great views and so peaceful. We will definitely be returning.

Local attractions

As Lake District aficionados know full well, this area’s prime for puttering about on two feet or two wheels. Whinlatter Forest Park, England’s only mountain forest, is a top-notch pick for cycle rides on the longest purpose-built bike trails in the Lake District, 10 minutes’ drive away; keep eyes peeled for the creatures that scamper around the area: red and roe deer, Herdwick sheep and shrews can all be spotted hereabouts. If you’ve not spotted any critters, drop by the Lake District Wildlife Park (15 minutes' drive) to see over 100 species, or view the animals underwater at the Lake District Coast Aquarium in Maryport (20 minutes) – a grand way to spend time if rainclouds are gathering. Still pouring? Dive below ground for tours at Honister Slate Mine (35 minutes), where visitors traverse the terrain on vertical climbs, rope-bridge walkways and steel ladders while learning about the 450-million-year-old volcanic slate. Back in the open air, the Laal Ratty (Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, 45 minutes away from the site) will have you chugging along a vintage steam train from the coastal village of Ravenglass to 210ft above sea level at Dalegarth.
