What customers say

Moss Side Farm is a peaceful, adults-only campsite on a working farm, highly recommended for its stunning views, tranquil atmosphere, and friendly hosts. Visitors appreciate the spacious pitches, proximity to walking routes, and the charm of roaming farm animals. Facilities are described as basic but clean and functional. While some mention rocky ground, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many planning return visits. A few reviews note occasional noise from other campers or basic facilities.

Rail camping pod

Liked As a novice camper loved the idea of the railway sheds with heat/light/real beds. Louise was a fabulous host and welcomed us warmly, told us all about the farm and area. Availability of fire wood, helped ourselves to apples, plums, pears! Really relaxed feel to the place - absolutely loved and will return. Felt very rustic and homely.

Disliked Nothing to dislike - views sensational and as someone who has had a bad experience of camping it really changed my view!

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful spot with good facilities. Host is lovely. There are nearby walks for a morning/evening stroll & firewood & fire starters available for making an evening fire to keep warm.

Disliked The road to the camp is bumpy! Go slow! :)

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite run by a friendly family. The site has showers, toilets and a hot water sink area for washing up. There are also various farm animals wandering around, so you will get the full rural farm experience! We were staying as a pair of couples, and Louise (the owner) made us feel very welcome. Firepits and logs/kindling/firestarters are also sold, which was great as we forgot ours at home! We plan to stay again as the views, facilities and staff were all fantastic. There was even good phone signal!

Disliked The only thing I could really criticize is the water pressure; as all of the showers are connected to a single water line, the pressure drops quite sharply when several people are in there. The showers also have those water-saving timer buttons that last around 20 seconds, if you let it go off you may struggle to get your water pressure back if its busy. We just started getting up earlier to miss the morning rush.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had a really lovely time at Moss Side, absolutely loved the site. Louise was super friendly and helpful, amenities on site were fantastic, hot showers, always tidy and clean. We were able to buy firewood and use a fire pit which was great for campfire s’mores! The view was beautiful and the whole place was great for a peaceful getaway. We loved the farm animals wandering around, friendly dogs, along with goats, chickens, ducks and a cockerel! There’s a great walk to the village straight from the site which we enjoyed. No faults, would love to come again.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Absolutely stunning! Checking in was very easy and in few minutes we had our spot to pitch up our tents, no issues at all! ✨️

Felt like home. Beautiful farm with a lot of animals running around ( if you are animal lover like us). Very peaceful, with amazing views and green surroundings.

Campfires are allowed which is a big bonus so you can sit around the fire in the evenings after all day of exploring Lake District.

Everyone was so lovely and facilities were very well maintained. Can't fault anything 👏

Local attractions

Of the many footpaths straight from the farm, the main one is the Foxfield to Broughton route along a disused railway line right into Broughton. Other paths can take you to the Broughton Mills area, Seathwaite valley and Ulpha valley; ask the Moss Farm team to point you in the right direction. If you're in the area for watersports, Coniston Lake, the third biggest in the Lake District, is the closest to the farm and is 10 minutes' drive away. Otherwise try pony trekking at Spoon Hall near Coniston, Muirthwaite Green at Silecroft or Cumbrian Heavy Horses in the Whicham Valley, all within 15 minutes' drive. Historic house fans have many in the area to pick from, like Muncaster Castle, Sizer Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall, as well as many National Trust houses such as Dove House in Grasmere, home of daffs man William Wordsworth. The towns of Windermere and Ambleside are about 20 minutes' drive away, as is South Lakes Animal Park at Dalton-in-Furness, an attractive option for animal fans. The staff at the Broughton-in-Furness tourist information centre can give you tips on what's best to see and do.
