  • Adults-only glamping with spectacular Lyth Valley views in Cumbria
  • Bowness-on-Windermere 15 minutes’ drive and Ambleside half an hour
  • Walks and bike rides direct from the site; foodie pub 10 minutes’ walk
When you’re after dramatic fell views from a lavish adults-only hideaway, it’s hard to top the stylishly appointed pods at Damson View Glamping in Cumbria’s South Lakes region. Spectacular vistas over the Lyth Valley, Cartmel Fell and Crosthwaite village are the order of the day, alongside a hefty dollop of luxury in spacious wooden pods. In each unit is a kitchen corner, a stylish ensuite bathroom with a shower and toilet, a king-size bed and a living area with a comfy settee, dining table and chairs. There’s a TV for lazy downtime evenings, and all bedding and towels are provided. Moving outside, you have a private patio with seating and a firepit for cosying up around while watching the stars on clear nights or barbecuing up an alfresco feast. The pods sit in a small orchard planted with damson trees. Abundant walks and cycle rides start right from your door, and there’s a drying room for any wet walking gear and boots (this being the Lakes after all). There’s also ample safe space for storing bikes and a workshop for repairs. Pretty Crosthwaite (10 minutes’ walk) has a pub serving delicious food, and there are shops in Kendal (20 minutes’ drive) if you need to stock up on gourmet treats.

Liked: Everything. Beautiful, peaceful location. Carole couldn’t do enough for us. I asked for balloons for valentines and she delivered.

The lodge was beautiful and immaculate inside. Everything has been thought about. From tea and coffee to towels to a hair dryer. Internet access was perfect too.

We were extremely close to cows and their calves in the next field and had chickens outside of our door.

Fire pit was a great addition and in the shed was everything you needed to light it, including marshmallows to enjoy.

Fantastic hosts and we will be in the summer.

From the manager: Thank you so much for the wonderful review, it is very much appreciated. We are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you both back. Best wishes, Carole & Howard :)

Local attractions

The walking and biking possibilities are virtually endless in this area of the South Lakes. Ease yourself gently into hiking with a stroll up Gummer’s How (15 minutes’ drive) for breathtaking views over Lake Windermere and the Coniston fells. If the weather’s not playing ball, get your climbing fix on the indoor KendalWall (half an hour). When activity on the water is required, you can go kayaking, paddleboarding, rowing and wild swimming on Lake Windermere (20 minutes). If that doesn’t appeal so much, take a relaxing cruise across the still waters of the lake from Bowness-on-Windermere (15 minutes) and drink in the spectacular fell and mountain landscapes. Ambleside (half an hour) is a handy hub for outdoor clothing shops as well as enticing pubs, cafés and restaurants. You can tour Rydal Mount (40 minutes), the former home of poet William Wordsworth just outside Grasmere, or add a further dose of culture to your holiday mix with a visit to National Trust-owned Sizergh (15 minutes), an austere 14th-century castle with gorgeous formal water gardens to have a wander around.
