Neat as a new pin, spacious, level and divided by young saplings. That’ll be the hardstanding and grass pitches at Oakwood Campsite, a family-friendly spot bordering farmland and set 10 minutes’ drive from the conservation village of Church Minshull in rural Cheshire. All the requisites for a relaxed break with family and friends are on hand at this well-maintained site: a modern shower block with baby-changing amenities and a wet room for the mobility impaired, pot washing, water stations, chemical waste disposal, recycling bins and charging points. You may want to eat breakfast and lunch at Minshull’s Garden Centre (10 minutes’ walk), and if you fancy dining out in the evening, there are several pubs within 10 minutes’ drive, as well as takeaways and fast-food outlets in Crewe (15 minutes’ drive). Your canine companions are welcome, and there’s a dedicated dog-walking area on site – please keep them on leads around the pitches. You can also exercise them (and yourselves of course) on longer expeditions down the Shropshire Union Canal towpath.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Clean and tidy site with large pitches. Nice location with plenty of good walks

Disliked: Male toilet block only had 2 toilets and 2 showers which if the site had been busy wouldn't have been enough. The heating in the toilet block wasn't on so was rather chilly but the actual showers had very hot water, perhaps a bit too hot. Basic facilities for the price per night especially considering they are soon to be charging extra for electric. On the point of electric this kept going off for a couple of seconds every 10 mins so anything running at the time would switch off. When we messaged the site to get rectified we were told "try a different socket if that doesn't work your caravan must be faulty". Definitely not our van or our neighbours or the other people's we spoke to on site who all had the same fault.

From the manager: In response to some of your comments:

You are correct, the male toilet has 2 toilets and 2 showers. This is well within the recommended number for the pitches available, during busy periods this has not been a problem.

The heating is set on a frost stat, and will only come on if the temperature drops to near freezing.

As I had just had all the electrics tested, I suggested to try another post. As I had no further feed back from this customer I assumed all was well.

I always like to meet each new arrival if possible and then like to leave people alone to enjoy their holiday. As always, if customers don't tell me of any problems I can't do anything about them.

I am sorry you felt the need to rate my site so poorly.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Clean quiet site and nice large pitches

Disliked: Had to wait 40 minutes at gate as both the numbers suppled to gain access weren’t being answered. Needs a loo brush in toilets, I’m not a fan of looking at other peoples deposits smeared down the pan. Showers need some sort of heat control and it would be good if the heaters in the toilet/ shower blocks were turned on. Over the long weekend we were there the power kept on going off and on every 10 minutes and have spoke to others on the site they were having the same problem.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Please allow me to address your comments:

I can only apologise for the wait, it has only happened once before. Some networks just don't connect.

I will not put loo brushes in the toilets due to previous experience - brushes left filthy covered in toilet paper, thrown on the site etc etc

The radiators in the shower block are frost stat set only. The cost is too prohibitive, and would ultimately involve a price rise in pitch fees.

The later comments could have been resolved had you only informed me of the issue.

I live on site and there is a phone number provided.

Liked: Took our new to us caravan here for our first outing in it as close to home. Spotless site, with plenty of water points, large pitches with plenty of space between them. Toilet block was very clean and modern, showers were nice and hot. Very peaceful site no complaints here!

Liked: Nice big flat pitches, well spaced. Modern toilet block

Disliked: We stayed in December no water to the service points. the toilet block had no heating which was very disappointing taking the time of year

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I do not heat the toilet block. It only has frost protection. There are water points, but as explained to the customer, the site water was turned off due to frost. There is water at the wash up station under cover. This particular customer asked for the water to be turned on, which I did for him immediately.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nice tidy site. plenty of space for us this time of year

Disliked: The showers were soo hot they were unusable for us but we didn't say anything because we were only there for a few nights just in passing and the shower temp seems to be an ongoing issue in past reviews. also we were not to impressed with a lorry and digger turning up at half 7 in the morning but i do understand its a new site and they have work to be done so didn't mind that too much. also might have been nice to have seen the owner other then the time we saw her cutting the grass when we arrived. just pop round and say hi to guests, see how they are doing. and i don't usually like to complain but having only one working loo was not great either especially when the previous user leaves the only working one clogged up with their contributions so i have to try and clear the blockage with no brush or anything if you would like a suggestion on that one maybe a brush on a chain? Not very pretty but better then nothing. ended up just using the disabled loo most of the time. i'm sorry but usually we are very laid back people and dont care if we have a few issues, we usually just work around them, but this time it was a little disappointing.

From the manager: Dear Mr Baker,

Thank you for your comments. Allow me to address them:

The showers will be changed in the closed period as this seems to be on- going despite adjustments. Although it is alway helpful if guests actually tell me rather than putting it on a review.

The works on the site had been planned for months and guests were informed. I apologise if you did not get the email that was sent.

I am sorry I didn't get to have a chat with you, I was more than a little preoccupied with everything going on that particular week.

The toilet has been looked at by the plumber who will be coming back next week to fit a part.

Excellent site !
