  • Luxury rural retreat on the edge of the West Yorkshire moors
  • A 15-minute drive from Hebden Bridge; 25 minutes from Hardcastle Crags
  • Bespoke hand-built cabins sleeping two people; dogs welcome
Whoever inspired you to visit the West Yorkshire moors – the Brontës, Ted Hughes, your brother, your neighbour – you should feel pretty pleased with your decision after arriving at Daisy Bank Camp. This rural retreat is really something special… High up on the moors above Hebden Bridge, and around 15 minutes’ drive away from the town itself, it has a collection of bespoke timber-clad cabins with direct access to the wild moors. As well as bringing your partner or friend, clip the leash on your dog too – these cabins very much welcome your canine companion. Named after birds that live in this pretty patch of West Yorkshire, the cabins have enclosed gardens and terraces so that you can all spend as much time outdoors as humanly possible. When you’re ready to retire inside after a day of exploring the Calder Valley and the South Pennines, there are plenty of comforts to welcome you, including a double bed, stowaway table and chairs, underfloor heating and a compact wet room and toilet. There's also a micro kitchen with a hob, fridge and microwave. Just a small walk away from the cabins are footpaths such as the Calderdale Way and the Pennine Way; if you prefer to pedal, cycle directly onto the National Cycle Route 68 too. Daisy Bank Camp is on the peaceful grounds of a family permaculture smallholding, so it's nicely remote; you may spot deer from time to time, and when night falls, you might want to try stargazing. It also has an off-lead play area for your dog to exercise. Despite the rural atmosphere, the site is handily a 10- to 15-minute drive from hubs like Heptonstall, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.

Local attractions

If you’re a reader of the classics, you will surely want to see Haworth for the lovely Brontë Parsonage Museum (35 minutes' drive). Take some time to potter around the independent shops and galleries before moving onto Hebden Bridge (15 minutes) for a similar sort of afternoon wandering between independent shops, coffee shops and galleries, all while admiring the gorgeous river and canal views. For a good long ramble, Blackshaw Head (25 minutes’ walk) has access to a handful of trails including the Mary Towneley Loop and the Pennine Bridleway. If you really wanted to, you could walk all weekend without having to get back to the car. Hardcastle Crags (25 minutes), a National Trust site with a large, wooded gorge, mill and coffee shop ,has yet more footpaths. And where else might you descend upon? Perhaps Heptonstall (10 minutes), where the poet Sylvia Plath is buried, or Todmorden (15 minutes) for a food-themed outing. The list goes on and on…
