  • Well-maintained and quiet West Yorkshire family site in Ripponden
  • A 20-minute drive to Halifax, and 25 minutes to Hebden Bridge
  • Pubs, takeaways, supermarket and farm shop within five minutes’ walk
Chasing a bit of West Yorkshire peace and quiet, but still wanting lots to do? Riverside Glamping and Caravan Park is a clever spot to consider, as it’s in a peaceful hillside spot on the edge of Ripponden, yet still near sports fields, walking routes and cycling trails – and Leeds and Manchester are both under an hour’s drive away if you’re craving some big-city action (or looking for a quick escape from such). Tucked among the woodland and meadows, well-maintained modern facilities at the site include a communal shower block, washing-up facilities and waste disposal. You can also deal with any dirty clothes at the launderette (five minutes’ walk). Chores sorted, there's all sorts of stuff to do right next door. Play tennis and bowls, and give kids the chance to kick a ball around Mill Fold Park and Playground or watch them practise their moves at the skatepark. Ripponden (five minutes’ walk) is the springboard to walking and mountain-biking routes, and there’s coarse and fly fishing on the River Ryburn for anglers. The village is also well endowed with local supermarkets, a farm shop and a choice of Indian takeaways, pizzerias and homely pubs. Dogs are very welcome at Riverside, by the way, but please clean up after them. This is a quiet site, so you'll also be asked to keep noise levels to a minimum after 10pm.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: A Lovely peaceful site with everything you need for a get away. Town and amenties are only a short walk away. John was great, helped me out with my electric connection as it was loose (need to get it looked at and I will), came right out to see me no delay!! There was a also a friendly couple who's friend let me borrow his Samsung charger as I'd forgotten mine 😫 And I needed it charged for my sat nav to get me home, not to mention I needed my WiFi hotpot to watch the TV / Netflix (you can tell I'm brand new to motorhoming) 😂

Disliked: Nothing. You had everything you needed. Toilet and shower block, washing up facility, cassette toilet emptying facility. Friendly staff and people on site.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely small site with pretty much everything you could hope for including: (1) super riverside setting (2) friendly owner who cares for his guests (3) personal pitch side facilities such as water, electric, and gray waste disposal (4) nice accessibility to great places whether by car or bus.

Definitely aim to stay here again when next in the area with the motorhome!

Disliked: Not so much a dislike but if I had to suggest a possible improvement it would be not to have gaps in the doors to the toilet / shower facilities. They did feel cold on an April morning. I guess there is a reason for the gaps as they are nice facilities. Not a biggie but I will mention!

I have scored Wifi as 3 of 5. There is no campsite wifi. The personal wifi was flaky at times I guess due to its low location relative to immediate surroundings.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Only stayed one night to test run our new van. The site was great, easy to access, had water tap right on the pitch. The owners were extremely friendly. The toilet facilities were super clean.

Disliked: Unable to have campfire, which we love. But didn’t mind on this occasion as we was only having a short trip

Local attractions

Walkers, get ready to go. Grab your hiking boots and stride out across the Beacon Hill Romulus to see the peaks of former volcanoes, stroll across the dam at Ryburn Reservoir (both five minutes’ drive) or hike up to the landmark Stoodley Pike (35 minutes) to admire Calderdale views from the monument. For a taster of Yorkshire’s industrial past, walks at National Trust-owned Hardcastle Crags (half an hour) take in former cotton mills and workers’ cottages. Keen to be out exploring on two wheels? Cyclists are just as well catered for, so try the looped trails on rugged moorland or head up to Hebden Bridge (25 minutes) and follow the towpath along Rochdale Canal for gentle family bike rides. Keep the kids entertained with immersive experiments and themed activities Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax (20 minutes), or spend some time browsing unusual boutiques at the monumental 18th-century Piece Hall – it’s also a lively centre for concerts and seasonal events so check to see what’s on before you go.
