  • Family-friendly site in peaceful rural South Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Yorkshire Wildlife Park; watersports nearby
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub and shops just a short walk way
It’s all rather peaceful out in the South Yorkshire countryside, where Mooreacres resides. This dog-friendly site has a splendid rural setting in Hatfield Woodhouse, and activities around here are along the lines of gorgeous walks and birdwatching in nature reserves or kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre 35 minutes’ walk away. If that doesn’t sound just splendid already, the centre of the local village is only around half an hour’s walk away. That means that pubs and takeaways are never too far off. Of course, another, rather attractive option is to rustle together your own barbecue (which are handily permitted on site). There are shops in the village for sourcing cuts of meat, buns and other essential ingredients. For those of you who adore a day spent with your fishing rod and family or friends, the village also has several fishing lakes, all within walking distance of the site. The lakes at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve are just a little further out (just five minutes’ drive, to be exact) and a scenic place for spying on birdlife, including nightjars. When you fancy a drink or a bite to eat and you want it quickly, the closest pub is just 15 minutes’ walk away (they run a carvery and stone-fired pizza for the foodies among you). Plenty of attractions are easy to access too, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and Boston Park Farm (five minutes). Mooreacres has simple facilities. Perhaps most conveniently, these include a modern toilet facility, modern shower room and water points. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads around the site.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely clean site, very well maintained and modern clean shower and toilet facilities. Nice and small so not noisy and overly busy especially with it being Easter weekend. It was so quiet at night and in the day too to be fair. Gorgeous views and scenery too and generous pitch sizes.

Disliked: The only thing stopping us from giving 5 stars is that it says dog walks but there aren’t actually any? There is a farmers lane which takes about 3 minutes to walk down and looks full of promise and open fields but within 3 minutes, each field you come too says private property no trespassing In the other direction back up the housing estate it was just houses and then the main road so not ideal. However this wasn’t the end of the world, although it became boring when we were looking forward to exploring with the dogs.

From the manager: "Thank you so much for your kind words about our site! We're thrilled you appreciated the cleanliness, modern facilities, and peaceful atmosphere, especially during the busy Easter weekend. We take great pride in maintaining the site and keeping the shower and toilet facilities sparkling clean. We're glad you enjoyed the views and generous pitch sizes too.

We really appreciate your feedback regarding the dog walks. We're happy to let you know that there *are* dog walks available, and we're in the process of creating maps to make them easier to find! We'll be uploading these maps soon. We apologize for any confusion and hope the new maps will enhance your future stays.

We hope to welcome you and your furry friends back again soon!"

Liked: There is everything to like and nothing to dislike about this site. It’s everything my family and I love about touring. Open spaces, beautiful views, peace and quiet. Throw very clean toilets into the mix and you’ve got a winner. We will definitely be back.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Well maintained pitches. Very quiet area. Water supply to each pitch. Great for a night or two

Disliked: one out of 3 showers broken, no hot water to the washing up area or drying rack makes it slightly tricky. Says good for dog walks but not really unless its around the village, we drove out to Hatfield moors. Car constantly back and forth to his pitch and kids running over our pitch apparently owners relatives so felt uneasy as we didn't ever meet owners

From the manager: "Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate all feedback as it helps us improve.

I'm very sorry to hear about the issues you experienced during your stay. We understand how frustrating it can be when facilities aren't up to par. The Broken shower . (Leaking shower head has now been replaced by our plumber who wasn't able to obtain one over the bank Holiday weekend )

We also apologize for any inconvenience caused by the vehicle movements and the children on the pitches. We'll speak with our staff to ensure everyone respects the boundaries of each pitch and that all guests feel comfortable. We aim to create a welcoming environment for everyone .

Liked: Nice quiet site. In the middle of the Countryside. Good pub about 5 mins drive away. Had individual showers with toilets. It was our first trip with the new caravan and wanted something local to try. We were not disappointed.

Disliked: Showers and toilets could have been cleaned on a daily basis.

Local attractions

How to kick off your holiday in South Yorkshire? A day out in Doncaster (20 minutes’ drive) to begin with, perhaps? Though it may look small on your maps, Doncaster has plenty of historical sites, including the Doncaster Minster, a Victorian shopping centre, a museum and art gallery and Cusworth Hall Museum & Park (half an hour). The latter has acres of parkland for you to explore, as well as the exhibits inside the historic Grade I-listed building itself. Add a zoo day into the mix with a visit to Messingham Zoo (half an hour), where there are mammals and birds just chilling out. The Brockadale Nature Reserve (half an hour) has more wildlife, this time in a valley habitat that includes around 40 species of birds. If you’re keen to keep on with checking out the local historical sites, Conisbrough Castle (half an hour) is an excellent choice. The novelist Sir Walter Scott was inspired by this place, and it’s easy to see why – the ruins are pretty impressive, but you'll be the judge of that too.
