The campsite

  • Small adults-only site in rural North Yorkshire
  • A five-minute drive from Ravenscar; Scarborough 15 minutes
  • Just off the Cinder Track; access to car-free trails; honesty shop
Whitby or Scarborough? Scarborough or Whitby? At Valley View Camping, kiss that age-old dilemma goodbye and settle down somewhere with easy access to both of North Yorkshire's most popular seaside resorts. Driving to either is a breeze – Scarborough is 15 minutes away by road, while you can reach Whitby in about 20. But there are rewards for travelling under your own steam too – the site is a few minutes' walk from the Cinder Track, a traffic-free bike and walking trail that connects up Yorkshire's seaside capitals, passing through lots of scenic spots that you might otherwise miss. Valley View Camping's level grounds are small in scale and overlook peaceful open countryside. It's an adults-only setup too, so the place should stay nice and peaceful while you relax, perhaps settling in for drinks and meals on the picnic tables provided (you're welcome to bring along a barbecue to create those meals if you like). Other facilities on site include an honesty shop, showers, toilets and chemical disposal. In need of village amenities? Here you're a five-minute drive from Ravenscar's tea rooms, public toilets and stony beach. The nearest farm shop is three miles to the south in Cloughton Newlands. When you arrive, just park up and pick your pitch (with any awnings to the right, please).

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Well designated pitches...pick your own.
Beautiful countryside
Clean toilets and showers
Good value for money
Adult only site...was mostly couples

Disliked Showers and toilets lacking some privacy as wall doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling.
A dog was barking for a long time in the morning...appeared to be tied up or kept in a farm building...not a cancer's dog.
Electric hook up always handy but we knew there was none before we came.
Not much communication before arrival

From the manager: Hi.
We are sorry about the dog barking, unfortunately it was a neighbour’s farm dog that we had found and that was the only building we could put her in to keep her safe till she could be collected. We apologise for the inconvenience it caused.
So we did the shower walls this way to help with ventilation. They are 7ft high & are made taller than most normal campsite/public cubicles to help with privacy.
We thank you for coming and taking the time to leave us a review, all feedback is appreciated.
Thanks again.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Amazing place. The dog walk trails are perfect. The facilities are more than enough. Animals everywhere, loved every minute of being there.

Disliked There was a very annoying Scottish couple up until 1am playing music and then decided to throw up.

From the manager: Hi.
Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
We do have a period of quiet between 11pm and 7am - this is normally well respected. We do live on site but were unaware of any disruption - had we been made aware, we could have helped this situation.
Again, thank you for your feedback.

Won’t be that last time we visit.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Great little spot for walking on Cleveland Way or Cinder Track. Huge, clean, warm shower facilities and good sized toilets that were always clean. Handy pot wash room, too. The pitches are well spaced out so it doesn't feel too crowded and we loved the honesty shop (particularly when we forgot ketchup for our bacon sarnies!). The honesty shop has some local produce too such as cheeses, cakes and pork pies. Didn't see or meet the owners but they were good responding to emails. A really peaceful little place with the farms surrounding it - will definitely be back in the future.

PS - also loved the tortoiseshell cat!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Very clean facilities and a wonderful quiet site. Staff were welcoming and friendly and the on site shop was well stocked (don't forget to take cash!). Ravenscar Hotel is a short 20 minutes along the Cinder Track if you want a refreshing drink with amazing views. Would definitely stay again.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Had a warm welcome, great walking along the old railway track. Had everything you possibly need on site.

Disliked The only downside was, had noisy neighbours on the Friday night, where very loud, well past midnight.

Woodpecker shepherd's hut

Liked We booked this last minute and were so pleased with our choice! The shepherd's hut is lovely inside and well equipped. The bed was firm which we like and very comfortable. The extra bonus was the toilet next to the shepherd's hut! We thought we might have a walk up to the campsite area but we had our own toilet right next door.
The site itself is small and beautiful. We were surrounded by fields and spent time sat outside in the very comfy loungers watching the wildlife and relaxing.
