Gorgeous North Yorkshire countryside all around, handy access to the A64 and York a mere 20 minutes’ drive down the road… there’s no denying Flaxton Meadows is in a very fine setting indeed. And it has a good mix of rural views too – this is a site that has farmland on one side and the wildlife-packed Strensall Common heathland on the other. And that means plenty of options for cyclists and walkers, whether you’re into strolling on local paths or tackling longer outings on the likes of the Ebor Way or Yorkshire Wolds Way. Don’t know where to start? The team on site are on hand to offer advice. As well as day trips to York, they also frequently recommend outings to Castle Howard and Scarborough. Being rather proud of their area, the owners here have put in a lot of effort to make their place eco friendly, kitting it out with renewable energy sources, establishing wildlife areas and using sustainable building materials where possible. A nature trail and educational boards help guests to get to know the area and nest-box webcams give everyone the chance to get a closer look at what’s rustling in the trees.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa. All touring units must have at least one portable fire extinguisher. Electric cars must be parked in a designated area.

Pete the peacock who is always on site, this beautiful animal could be seen all the time

5 star toilets, showers, did not disappoint with underfloor heating. also a hair dryer to hand

5 star cabins with pond behind each one. could see geese and sometimes swans.

Each pitch had its own sign. i thought it was such a cute touch that helped with pitch location

Each part of the campsite had it's sections, caravans, tents and cabins. each one spotless

The patch behind the recycling section. campsite is big on sustainability without forgoing quality

The tent section. as you can see, the grass perfectly kept.

The part next to the buggy allowed us to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine while having a drink

Their own pizza van. from pizza, garlic bread to cheesy chips, such tasty food and highly recommend

Clean and welcoming, toilet/shower facilities were excellent.

Liked: We were having a road test for the first time out in a caravan and had heard a few stories about choosing sites. So we were very pleased with Flaxton Meadows. It was very clean and had a lovely feel about the place. The staff were great and so helpful. Cant wait to visit again

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Flaxton meadows, wow, what a place.
Facilities were probably the best we have used.
Staff are really friendly and helpful.
We stayed for 4 nights and could happily have stayed there for longer.

Disliked: It’s a shame to have to put any dislikes at all however the WiFi is awful. I know we should be looking to relax away from phones etc but there was little to no WiFi in the caravan. It’s available in the bar and other areas but it didn’t stretch the 30 yards to our pitch.
The second dislike (again reluctant to criticise at all) were the pizzas. They have a great pizza trailer on site which opens every day. The trailer has pizza ovens and is clean and tidy. The pizza bases that are being used are poor to say the least. They were like cardboard. Cost £24 for 2 and whilst the toppings were ok my wife and I only had a few slices.

Liked: The site was spotless with brilliant facility’s. We loved the pizza van & bar. Really quirky and cool with a brilliant atmosphere on a weekend. Mark was amazing with us, so helpful and friendly, made our experience even better and the other staff were lovely too. Beautiful long walk through strensall common. We will 100% be back and highly recommend this site!

Disliked: The train line was close by which you could hear apart from that everything was perfect

Starting your explores of the local area is as simple as wandering next door to Strensall Common, managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and with plenty of paths to wander along (some of them accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs). York (20 minutes) is a must, of course – for history at the Jorvik Viking Centre, walks along the old walls and visits to the National Railway Museum. For more on the heritage front, next stops should certainly be Castle Howard (15 minutes), Nunnington Hall (25 minutes) and Rievaulx Abbey (35 minutes). Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
There is no reception at this site. Please check in at the bar instead.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 7 day(s) of arrival.
Modifications are subject to a £5.00 fee.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
The site only allows dogs up to 32kg.

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
