  • Luxury glamping 10 minutes’ drive from Thirsk in North Yorkshire
  • Kilburn White Horse 15 minutes’ drive and historic York 35 minutes
  • Private hot tubs and barbecues; licensed bar and monthly entertainment
Expect VIP treatment from the moment you arrive at Burtree Country House and Retreat. Yes, all you need to do is sit back, relax and indulge yourselves with cocktails, champagne or afternoon tea, possibly from the soothing vantage point of your own private-use hot tub. That all sound rather fabulous? There’s plenty to add to the list of fabulousness, as this glampsite is in North Yorkshire’s spectacular Herriot Country, 10 minutes’ drive from Thirsk. It has views to steep, wooded Sutton Bank and the late-19th-century Kilburn White Horse as added bonuses. And the good news doesn’t stop there; the licensed Folly Bar (cunningly disguised as a Victorian folly) serves up breakfasts and supper with refreshments in between, and there is live music and karaoke once a month on Saturday night. The kids get it good too, with play equipment and paddling pools on hand for free; a bouncy castle, bucking bronco, riding on Betty the pony and swimming at a neighbouring campsite are all available for an extra charge. All the luxury accommodation is tucked away in leafy corners of the campsite to give you privacy, and is kitted out with proper double beds, kitchenettes and private loos. As well as the hot tubs at each unit, private-use outdoor garden space is furnished with barbecues and firepits for alfresco meals – firewood is available on site for a small fee.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Friendly owner and staff. Pleasant stay

Disliked: Staff insisted we pitch up facing a caravan or another tent rather than width wise. Information provided was that pitch would be 8.5m wide so space between tents was extremely tight. Owner advised that this was first year they have had pitched tents so wanted feedback. Additional noisy patrons were not challenged. We were kept awake by several tents having loud conversations until 2 in the morning one night and then another night a group of patrons were singing karaoke until 3 in the morning.

1 bedroom treehouse (deluxe)

Liked: We stayed in the treehouse for 2 nights, we were looking for something quirky to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. This place did not disappoint, they have thought of everything for a comfortable stay including heated blankets and plenty of fuel for the log burner and BBQ. It was total relaxation, enjoying the views from the hot tub in a small secluded woodland setting. Would highly recommend the treehouse for a weekend getaway.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The staff were lovely and helpful and tried their best to make our stay comfortable, the folley bar is lovely and the toilets are lovely and clean

Disliked: We had booked a hardstanding pitch, but when we arrived there wasn't any and had to go into a wet field, we got stuck in the mud when trying to enter but the owner towed us into our spot, the grass was long and wet so our boots and feet got wet when we came out of the caravan.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Second visit to here, such a cosy atmosphere. Staff are lovely. Added bonus we could hire a hot tub. Safe for the kids.

Disliked: Only thing I’d complain about is the price of hot tub rental. I paid £120 for access Friday night - Sunday morning. We could only get in it 3 times as the water temp dropped so rapidly and when we went to get in it Sunday it was only 29 degrees, should have been 40. The water was also green Saturday don’t think any chemicals had been re-added.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely nothing. See below.

Disliked: Just returned after having the worst experience we have ever had at a campsite here. First of all we booked a hard standing pitch with electric and is wasnt cheap at £40. This was also with a fire pit provided and an option to use a jacuzzi.
Upon driving in the place is an absolute tip. First having not cleaned up from halloween as old pumpkins, signs, old halloween decorations strewn everywhere. There was a washing line out right across where access to the bar and toilets and showers were. This was never removed while we stayed. There was also washing just strewn against a fence. We parked up and eventually someone came out. We asked where we should pitch and he showed us just 2 pitches both on grass. 1 was next to an old abandoned static caravan and the other in a muddy field with an old bonfire with iron fencing sort of thrown around it. There was also a big old tent in the same field with mould on. I said I had asked for a hard standing and told the reinstall any and to not worry 'they had a tractor' so we had to park next to the old static caravan. Right next to the cow shed and waterlogged field with two very sad looking ponies in. I asked if the bar was open and he said yes. However it had been left a mess from what looked like a birthday party and no one was staffing it anyway. The toilets of which there is only two on the whole park was accessed by going past the bar and the same for the shower which was only 1 in the whole park. There was absolutely no bins anywhere and there was no place to empty toilets or wash up. No wifi offered so cant give feedback on speed. I doubt it was even on as did a search and nothing came up. We decided to eat out and when we got back at 9pm there was no one about and the bar that was supposed to be opened was shut and all lights out, it still hadn't been cleaned anyway The walk to the toilets from our van was right at the other end of the park so a nightmare if you want to go in the night. So we just went to bed and were kept awake all night by noises from the cow shed thats sounded like they were outside, dint worry though they get drowned out at about 6am the noise from theA19 which was 100 yards away with lorry's and cars passing at speed. We then got up about 8am and could smell a very strong smell of cannabis. That was it for us and we left as quickly as possible. This was without doubt the worst stay we have ever had. I get its end of season but don't charge top dollar when the site is in disgraceful state.

1 bedroom treehouse (deluxe)

Liked: The venue is absolutely stunning and the treetop lodge was the perfect little hideaway for our friends 40th birthday. The host was very accommodating in every way.
I would say though the celebration package was not worth the money (£35 for a few balloons , banners and a cupcake)this was slightly disappointing but everything else was perfect
