Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Great location close to the Pennine Bridleway and other footpaths. Clean toilets and showers. Flat field with plenty of space to park next to the tent and lots of space for children to play.

Disliked: Quite a busy site over the bank holiday with others playing music late into the night. As expected with a large caravan site but something to be aware of.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Amazing!!!….. we stayed for 3 nights in our tent, we found a nice spot under the trees next to the river, toilets and showers are spotless and warm! Fire pits and logs were to hand if we needed to hire one, lots of space left on the pitch fields even with it being very busy bank holiday weekend which gave my children plenty of space to roam and play.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Clean site, flat pitches, friendly staff. Mordern toilet/shower block (2+2) but could maybe do with an extra shower. Nice location. All in all a very nice simple campsite with none of the bells & whistles on other sites. Would deffo stay here again if looking at this area.

Disliked: 1 extra shower would be ideal

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: nice site

Disliked: but a bunch of scousers turned up and pitched next to us. Played drug music till 1.00 pm when I went round to ask the to stop.
Owner asked that we buy wood from him for fire pit. Could not believe when it was delivered what I got for £10. Really poor quality and limited wood compared to what we usually get. A scam with a smile. Not at all professional or honest. Won't be going back

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Spacious site. Excellent location. Easy to walk to Settle or Victoria and Jubilee Caves or several waterfalls depending on what your doing. Friendly staff, lots of water points.

Disliked: Very minor thing but only a hook in the shower cubicles for clothes. A bench or shelf could be squeezed into main bathroom bit to aid with excess clothes while showering.

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
