  • Dog-friendly site with views of Roseberry Topping
  • Just outside the North York Moors; 15 minutes’ drive to Saltburn
  • Five minutes' drive from dining spots and shops in Guisborough
Don’t you worry about finding a place with gorgeous hill views, beaches a short drive away and X – Wyke Lodges and Touring Caravans has got it all sorted. These aren’t just any old views. Here on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, the site faces Roseberry Topping, a partially cone-shaped hill that many say must be the long-lost sibling of Matterhorn in the Alps. A great family venture this may well be, as Wyke Lodges and Touring Caravans prides itself on being a tiptop kid-friendly experience. The facilities include a kids’ park, a washing-up area, wifi and male, female and accessible toilets. There are multiple water points, as well as waste and grey water disposal areas. For dining spots and shops, the market town of Guisborough is just five minutes’ drive away. It's just another bonus that the site has good access to the northeast coast: it's 15 minutes’ drive away from the beach at Saltburn-by-the-Sea, which has the oldest water-balanced cliff tramway in the UK and a historic pier. Staithes and Whitby are within 35 minutes' drive of the site and Scarborough is an hour away. A walk up Roseberry Topping, 10 minutes’ drive away, might also make your Yorkshire bucket list. Make your rounds of market towns like Stokesley, 15 minutes’ drive away, and Yarm, 25 minutes away. Cinemas and other attractions are in Middlesbrough, which is a 20-minute drive or so away. For bigger cities, Durham is 50 minutes' drive away and York is an hour and 15 minutes' drive away.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Clean site and toilet block. Generous hard standing, friendly welcome. Nice but small childrens play area. Fairly level pitch. Nice views. Wifi at no extra cost was good once most people had left.

Disliked: I appreciate the intention not to look regimental but the downside of this is that the other pitches feel too close. No amenities other than toilet/shower block and washing up area yet the charge of £38 per night felt a bit expensive compared to other sites where you would get a Serviced Pitch / fishing lakes/shop for less. Didn’t appreciate the barrier being locked before the stated time. Noisy gravel from cars driven at a speed especially from the owner with his site vehicle and trailer. Bit of a small scale construction site going on but not sure this can be avoided as they extend their facilities. Perhaps some sort of screening might help?

From the manager: thanks for your feedback ,Sorry about the Barrier closing too early i have just had it commissioned last week and it isnt working correctly at the moment i have had the company back in and the barrier should be working correctly next week ..,If you look at the site facilities it states that we dont have a lake and a shop on site and we probably wont get them because we wont be given planning permission [and it is something we are not going to pursue].,if you look at one of my previously replies i have broke down the costings ,thanks again

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely place with some fantastic walks direct from site. Greeted by friendly owners on arrival and gave us a thorough run down of facilities and local places to visit. Toilet and shower block very clean...infact the wife never uses shower blocks on other sites and normally uses caravan shower, but here she used the shower on site for first time and she was very happy...happy wife happy life 😄. Wifi great and able to get 4G. We had a lovely stay, totally relaxed and will definitely return. Thank you.

Electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: The location is great, lovely views of Cleveland hills and great walks close by, really good for walking with friends, family, children and dogs.

The site is currently under some renovation works, but amenities are good. Showers, toilets and washing facilities.

There is a small cafe, open for breakfast and ice creams.

Enough space for children to pay games and small play park.

The site is clean and tidy with good access to local pubs and walks close by.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Family friendly wouldn't advise if after a quiet tranquil holiday though. Lots of places to walk the dog, good size pitches. The site owners are very friendly. When one child got their leg stuck between the beams on the climbing frame they did offer to come help and remove the plank but parents already dealt with it. I did see others ordering on just eat so local takeaway options is good.

Disliked: Very poor shower pressure (took 20 mins to just wash hair and we don't have thick hair), dirty cobwebs in bathroom around all cieling and shower tops, yes they empty bins and wipe down sink etc but no deep cleans done all week. The shower kept going scolding hot and then suddenly cold (not good with little kids) the whole site is gravel, this is loud when people leaving early for work. They would benefit from tarmac to reduce noise and allows kids to ride bikes also minimise the kids picking up stones and throwing the. One vehiclewhile there was hit by stones. The male owner drives the quad fast around site even though they have a speed limit. There is a 360 mini digger working on the site daily which is loud. The cafe is very expensive, especially on the ice lollies. The climbing frame wobbles and I'd advise it's best suited to kids 5+ due to size. The price per night for what they offer is very expensive, I paid the same as haven site and I got passes to entertainment, swimming and onsite facilities. This is a very basic site.

From the manager: there are so many negatives that we cant answer them all but i will try , the toilets are inspected daily and thoroughly cleaned every other day cant really comment on the shower pressure we have 6 bar pressure going into the shower block and we have electric showers so cant understand why it should take 20 mins to wash your hair,,Cob webs in the showers ? we have explained to people there is work ongoing on part of the site as i said before there is never a good time to do it but it has to be done .I would love to have Tarmac around the site but it is too expensive so gravel is a great substitute ,we think we are reasonably priced when you consider we have to pay 15% commission to pitch up 20% vat ,business rates a huge electricity bill water rates ,insurance ,bin collection ,wages and corporation tax, fuel and other things.hope this addresses some of your issues .

Local attractions

Beach day? You’ve got yourself a few options. Staithes (half an hour’s drive) is a worthy spot. Set over a hillside with cobbled streets and old cottages, the village also has a beach with lovely rockpools. You might be lucky enough to uncover a few fossils too. In Whitby (35 minutes), the beach is lined with gorgeous beach huts. Water activities aren’t exclusive to the sea, either. Windsurfing and boat rides are some of the activities at the Tees Barrage Bridge (20 minutes). At Cod Beck Reservoir (25 minutes), there’s no swimming but the water makes for gorgeous hiking views. A hilly climb is also on hand at Carlton Bank (25 minutes), which has moor views to switch things up. A famous figure in these parts is Captain Cook; learn about his journeys at the Captain Cook's Monument (15 minutes) or the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum (15 minutes).
