  • Peaceful glamping site five minutes' drive from Guisborough
  • A 10-minute drive from North York Moors and Saltburn-by-the-Sea beach
  • Firepits and kitchen facilities provided
‘Expect a daisy on your pillow’ say the folk that run Baby Moon Camp – and that gives you a good idea of the kind of warm welcome you’ll receive and the attention to detail that’s lavished on the accommodation at this peaceful North Yorkshire glamping retreat. Those daisies will be on the pillows of comfy beds inside the units, each of which is also kitted out with dining space, kitchen facilities and a firepit for outdoor cooking or keeping warm. Little extra touches like candles and woodburning stoves are also thrown in, and there are smart bathroom facilities (solar-heated showers, warm running water and proper flush loos) close by. Pubs and other eateries are five minutes’ drive away in Guisborough if you’d like to treat yourselves to an evening out; it’s also the place for supermarkets and other shops for supplies to hit the barbecue or kitchen with (or perhaps a bottle of something to sip while sitting out at your picnic table?). This is a splendidly secluded spot with pretty views galore, space to relax and a quiet vibe that should lend itself well to deep slumbers. If you need a bit of a hand to wear yourselves out ready for bed, there are plenty of hikes to be had in the nearby open spaces of the North York Moors National Park, plus outings to the heritage-packed coastline or industrial Teesside.

Local attractions

Guisborough (five minutes’ drive) is rather more than just your nearest place to pick up food – it’s also the place for a day out at Gisborough Priory followed by a stroll along the pathways at Guisborough Forest & Walkway Visitor Centre. If you’re more taken with trails that take you uphill, aim instead to roam on Roseberry Topping (10 minutes). You may well spot some of the local wildlife as you wander in either location, but if you want guaranteed sightings you’d best stop by at Kirkleatham Owl Centre (five minutes). If your country wanderings aren’t complete without a visit to a stately home, amble around Ormesbury Hall National Trust estate (15 minutes). For seaside times, take the 10-minute drive to Saltburn-by-the-Sea for beach days, games of golf and tramway rides. A little further along the coast but well worth the effort are Whitby (half an hour) and pretty Robin Hood’s Bay (40 minutes). If city life is calling, make for Middlesbrough (20 minutes) for the modern art museum, theatre and Tees Transporter bridge (which you can climb or bungee jump from if you’re feeling particularly intrepid…)
