  • Luxury lakeside lodges on the North Yorkshire coast
  • A 10-minute drive from Filey; Scarborough 15 minutes
  • On-site bistro, indoor pool, play area and playing field
Trying to find a place for a glamping holiday on the North Yorkshire coast? Somewhere by a lake with a touch of luxury? You’ve hit the bullseye with Killerby Old Hall Caravan Park, a spacious and well-maintained family site on the North Yorkshire coast. This glamping retreat has a smart collection of lodges close to the seaside towns of Filey and Scarborough and owners Shaun and Babette look forward to welcoming you here for a relaxed break at their historic property… Set within substantial grounds, the site has access to an on-site bistro-bar called Nine Eighty (open from 9am; it closes at 3pm Monday to Wednesday, 10pm Thursday to Saturday and 7pm on Sunday). There is also an indoor swimming pool, a play area and a playing field. Another lovely feature is that the accommodation is tucked away in a quiet location close to a peaceful lake, where there's ample scope for relaxing in the open air and spotting passing wildlife. For coastal scenery, Killerby Old Hall Caravan Park is under two miles from the sandy beach of Cayton Bay. Pick up beach picnic supplies in Cayton village centre roughly half a mile away, where there’s a post office, local shop and pub. All the lodges are fully heated and insulated, making them great for a staycation in any season. As you enter through the French doors into the main living area, you'll be met by a double bed, bunkbeds and a kitchenette area equipped with a sink, fridge, microwave, two-ring electric hob, kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery, and cooking utensils. The lounge area has a sofa and 43" smart TV too, as well as a folding dining table and four chairs. Each lodge also has its own ensuite with toilet, sink, and shower. Plug sockets and USB ports are available throughout. Outside, each unit has a private decked area with an outdoor picnic table. Space is available for one car in a central parking area a few steps from the accommodation.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Quite handy for the bus routes
Wifi was good
Good park and field for the children

Disliked: I received a text in the morning to say which pitch to go to. When we arrived there was no welcome by any staff and no clear signage so we went on the wrong touring pitch the numbers on the pitch where also not very clear.
The road noise was very loud day and night.
I asked a fellow camper who stored his van there where the water was and he said it was on the other touring pitch. So a bit of a treck to get water. A tap outside the toilet block would be ideal .The motor home service point said grey water only . There was a blue hose but didn’t want to take my chances.
There was only one toilet block working. It could have done with a private sink to clean your teeth as you stood next to someone who had just been the loo so no privacy. There was enough room for that where the hair dryer was. The showers had no where to hang your towels clothes etc a few door hooks will make all the difference same in the toilet no where to hang your coat even as you open the door to the toilet a few coat hooks could be added
We will not be returning mainly due to the lack of attention to detail and also the lack of a friendly face so if needed you knew who to approach. We usually use CAMHC as even though they are a national company you still get the face to face contact and are happy to help. Customer service was certainly lacking.

Liked: Tidy site, serviced pitches.

Disliked: No ladies toilets!!!! Everyone was using the mens including little girls. Dismissive staff unhelpful at best, electric you have to pay for via the Internet, theirs is slow so it takes a long time for it to come on, I got bored so went out for a cup of tea!!

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: What a great site, staff brilliant . When got there had problem with the electrics so they moved us onto another pitch. One of the best shower & toilet blocks clean & modern. It has all you need & set in wonderful grounds . The on site bistro is warm & welcoming with great food. We caught the bus to Scarborough so could leave the camper van on site. Always handy having a bus stop near the site. Have told family about so they are going to go now as well.

Disliked: Nothing really

Primrose lodge (hot tub)

Liked: Being within the Killerby Old Hall grounds really makes this place unique, the pods are clean, quaint looking from the outside and well equipped on the inside with a sitting area, double bed, bathroom/shower, kitchen, TV, and bunk beds for the kids. Each pod on site has the added bonus of having its own hot tub and there is guest wifi too. Guests also get use of the swimming pool, there a park for children and a bar/restaurant we visited for pizza, fries and a few drinks which we all really enjoyed. The staff are all super friendly and welcoming and it's in an ideal location being a very short drive to Scarborough, Whitby and Filey so there is plenty of options to keep the family entertained.

Disliked: Just a small criticism of the pods, but the bathroom is set up like a washroom, so post showers leave the floor soaking for anyone else wanting to use it.

Local attractions

Pack your swimming costume… you might be a frequent visitor to Cayton Bay beach (five minutes’ drive) while you’re here, and the beach has its very own surf school for budding swell catchers. Sailing lessons are available in Filey (10 minutes) and there are more seaside activities in Scarborough (15 minutes) including more sea swims. A picnic might be a good idea for Sewerby Hall and Gardens (25 minutes) and Castle Howard (50 minutes) – both are historical settings with grand grounds for such afternoons. In Whitby (45 minutes), dine on iconic oysters instead and fuel outings to any family-friendly attractions… These might include Playdale Farm Park (five minutes) and Flamingo Land Resort (45 minutes), two wildlife-themed family days out.
