  • Peaceful, dog-friendly site two miles from the beach
  • A 10-minute drive to Hornsea and 15 minutes to Bridlington
  • Pub and shops a short walk away
Nothing like a bit of sea breeze to revitalise all your senses, eh? And there's plenty of that to be had around Samara Caravan Park, in the peaceful town of Skipsea. This East Yorkshire site is a short jaunt from several seaside towns: you can drive five minutes to the nearest beach (or follow the sound of lapping waves on foot) or get out to bigger towns like Hornsea (10 minutes' drive) and Bridlington (15 minutes). Meanwhile, the heritage grounds of Flamborough are 25 minutes away, where you can catch auks and gannets diving from chalky cliffs. A good antidote to hectic everyday life, this relaxed site is set up with facilities like toilets, showers and water points to top up your bottles or for your pots and pans, as well as a chemical disposal point. There are plenty of friendly faces on this family-run site, ready to point you in the direction of countryside jaunts, old ruins, and the best surf. Dogs are welcome at this site, so make sure you save a space for your furry friend. It’s a five-minute stroll to food shops, as well as a Yorkshire ice cream parlour (bubble gum ice cream, anyone?). Don't fancy cooking? Take advantage of the local pub garden two minutes away, where you can wet your palate with a warming cask ale or hot meal. Please note that fires and disposable barbecues are not permitted. Please note that pets must be kept on a lead as the site has free-range chickens.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Location was decent with a pub a 10 minute walk away.

Disliked: No hot water, toilets were absolutely minging - always stunk of cigarettes.
1 ladies toilet being used by the whole site with no hot water in the sink.
3 men’s toilets again which stunk and no hot water in the sinks.
1 shower cubicle which was grim.
No hot water to clean pots and pans and nowhere to clean the baby or any baby facilities at all.
We also had no wifi or no phone signal at all for 4 days.
Nowhere for our dog to run or be let off the lead either.
It was also loud being so close to a main road.
It’s had new owners in recently who were friendly - so I just hope they sort it out for other families and visitors. We wouldn’t return.

From the manager: Good Afternoon in the next 4 weeks we will be starting to build the new toilet block to an high standard and do hope you will return.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Site looked clean and tidy with well maintained pitches. We were welcomed on arrival and informed how to access the site and offered a choice of pitches.

Disliked: The bathroom facilities are in desperate need of an upgrade which there are notices about, although it doesn’t say when these are planned for. The current facilities are not adequate to service the site. There is only one ladies toilet which had no hot water. The night we stayed we were informed there was no light in the shower and it was awaiting repair. We were told to take a lamp in. I believe the hosts should have a temporary solution in place for this. Overall in my opinion the facilities are what are letting the site down.

It didn’t keep us awake but the site was next to a fairly busy road with road noise throughout the night.

From the manager: Thanks Melissa for your comment, yes the toilet block is being replaced shortly. There is 1 ladies toilet and 3 unisex ones.
I did put a temporary lamp in the shower room whilst we awaited a new light to be fitted. However within a few hours of putting it in there it went missing.
We did give you a few options on pitches to choose and you did choose the one closest to the road. I'm shocked you say it was busy during the night as others who stayed the same night actually said it was lovely and peaceful during the night.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Pitch was large plenty of space for our awning. Near to the coast. The owner who showed us to our pitch was lovely. Information on where to visit local sites and distance was great especially as we were new to the area.

Disliked: Only one female toilet few times had to stand and wait outside plus didn’t seem to be any hot water.
Quite noisy from other people staying near us but that wasn’t the site owners fault.

Local attractions

Being just two miles from Fraisthorpe Beach (10 minutes’ drive), it wouldn’t be a holiday without time spent digging moats on the sandy beach, examining rock pools, or chasing the pup into the surf (it’s dog-friendly too) Further afield, more coves can be found at the chalk cliffs of Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (30 minutes). The expanses of East Yorkshire countryside are right on your doorstep too. Pull on your wellies and prepare to hurdle the country stiles – and while you’re roaming, check out the earthwork left in the wake of the ruins of Skipsea Castle (two minutes), which used to be an old Norman motte-and-bailey fortress. You won’t be short of activities for the whole family in this area either. Perhaps prepare a picnic to enjoy on the grounds of the family-run working farm at Honeysuckle Farm (10 minutes). Then, pop by Mr Moo’s Ice Cream Parlour (two minutes) for some real mouth-watering Yorkshire dairy ice cream – orange marmalade, ticklee toffee, and blackberry slammer are just some of their out-of-the-box flavours. Less of a sweet tooth? Dig into a heartier meal in the beachfront pubs of Bridlington and Hornsea (each within a 15-minute drive) or venture into markets of Beverley (30 minutes).
