  • Popular and peaceful countryside site a short drive from York
  • On the Way of the Roses 170-mile coast to coast ride
  • Adults-only farm site; dogs and barbecues permitted
Seeking serenity in scenic countryside but get antsy if you’re not close to the bright lights? Hold that thought. City, countryside and a coast to coast cycle route are all features of very popular and very fab Yapham Holds Farmhouse Campsite, which will see sorted those who ditheringly fancy both urban and rural on one break. The farm is nicely rooted in rural North Yorkshire countryside that verges on the Yorkshire Wolds, but is a grand and easy drive into also very fab York (or an even simpler Park and Ride trip to York from the bus station near the farm in Pocklington, which has additional services to Beverly and Hull.) Bring your bike too if poss: Yapham Holds is right on the Way of the Roses 170-mile coast to coast ride from Morecambe to Bridlington and a couple of miles from the six cycle routes weaving around the countryside from the nearby market town of Pocklington. Yapham Holds is popular for its added little touches as well as its location, like flowers and handwash in the spotless loo and shower block and the knowledgeable welcome from hosts Rebecca and Patrick who can advise on all there is to do in the area, from museums to York ghost walks.

Camping pod

Liked: This is a fantastic site, we we're cycling the way of the roses from Morecambe to Bridlington and Yapham Holds was our 2nd night stop over. The owners Rebecca and Patrick were amazing. They gave us a lovely warm welcome and passed on lots of local knowledge for takeaways and what facilities were on site. The glamping pod was superb, clean and offered everything we needed after a long day on the bike and for an excellent price too. I've already recommended to friends and family as this is an amazing place to stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Site is very well looked after, modern clean showers, toilets and pot wash facilities. Grass pitch is nice and flat and had been freshly cut before we arrived. The hosts Louise & Nigel are very friendly and helpful. We stayed for 3 nights early October. Would definitely visit again.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Wonderful small site. Hosts were very welcoming.
Facilities were great and the pot washing room one of the best we’ve seen, with a microwave and fridge. Plenty of info on taxis and takeaways etc.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Everything was spot on! Lovely hosts, lovely quiet site, the “Pods” looked fantastic! We stayed for 2 nights - took our bikes & had a great ride out, into Picklington (2miles) then a route around the little villages - did abt 30 mile - stopping off for refreshments at little cafe/shops - a wonderful part of the countryside.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike at all!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The campsite had all the facilities we needed for one night in a tent. The shower and toilet facilities were extremely clean, as was the washing up area. There was a fridge which was a nice extra. We had a beautiful sunset here and an amazing starry night along with a lovely visit from Billy the cat. We would visit again if camping or visiting York as it is a short 30 minute drive away.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Excellent site with good pitches and facilities.

Disliked: Only comment would be that some recycling facilities would have been good.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, and pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. With regard to recycling, it is something we have tried to do, but sadly not everyone is of the same mind, and it became a big problem.

Local attractions

Pretty market town Pocklington is well-served with pubs, tearooms, restaurants and gift shops as well as supermarkets, and it's also got a skate park for guests travelling with youngsters or who want to revisit their childhood roots/skinned elbows. More placid but also very impressive pursuits lurk among the lily ponds and lakes of lovely Burnby Hall Gardens just outside Pocklington: the UK’s national collection of hardy water lilies lives here, but kids will likely be more open-mouthed among the giant fish that dwell in the gardens’ two lakes and take food directly from the fingers of awestruck guests. Step into the Stewart Museum afterwards for a look at the collections of former hall owner Major Percy Stewart’s eight grand tours in the early twentieth century – lucky old Major S crossed every continent on his travels and hauled back quite the collection of artefacts, many of which are now on display. North Yorkshire, York and surroundings are top spots for holidaymakers who like historical houses and museums; outside York, award-winning Eden Camp on a former POW camp near Malton tells many tales of World War II, and both Harrogate and Leeds, around an hour’s drive away from Yapham Holds, are crammed with historical highlights. In York, hang out with the Vikings at the Jorvik Centre or take a wander around the National Railway Museum or the Yorkshire Air Museum on Halifax Way, the biggest independent air museum in the country. And surely it’s essential to see York Minster and York Castle Museum too…? Fifteen miles north, eighteenth-century Castle Howard in the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a right royal day out by bus from York’s Station Avenue or by train from the main station. Towards Hull, dive into another topping attraction at award-winning marine centre and aquarium The Deep at Sammy’s Point, where seven species of shark swim among the thousands of sea critters in the aquarium tanks.
