  • Pub site on the edge of the pretty Yorkshire village of Reedness
  • Award-winning carvery Sundays and pizza night once a week
  • Ouse riverside walks and the Blacktoft Sands reserve very close by
Half measures? Not here. East Yorkshire's Half Moon Inn is fully sorted for location, facilities and award-winning Sunday roasts – how handy that you'll be pitching up right by a pub. Riverside walks along the handsome banks of the Ouse as well as twitching at the Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve within five minutes' drive are among the many options for when you've worked your way through the pub menu and are seeking something slightly more active (if only to ensure your clothes still fit when your holiday comes to an end). And as local town Goole (10 minutes' drive) is an East Riding port town, it's an easy ride by car – or bike – to the Yorkshire coast for strolling upon the sands. But back to that menu. The pub is open daily for food, from its general menu from Mondays to Saturdays or a full carvery on Sundays (do book a table for this latter, it's rightly popular). A stonebaked pizza night runs on Mondays too and there are free meals for kids at certain times of the week, as well as evening entertainment for grownups awaits including quizzes and live music – fully expect to be spending quite some time in this friendly pub. The site has toilets, internet access and ice pack freezing. Barbecues (off ground only) are allowed, but you'll probably yearn to have meals in the pub every night: no point having a Yorkshire pub holiday in half measures…

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Not bad could not get food from the pub as it was fully booked

Disliked: Was never asked if we wanted a table booking at the pub for food as it gets used by people living nearby. We did not get anything from the pub as was told there was just too full could not even anything to take out.

From the manager: Steven, you was sent a message at 8.49am on the day of arrival,(a busy bank holiday weekend)on the message it states the restaurant opening times & the phone number for the pub if you would like to book a table, you didnt. You give us a poor review because you either you cant read or your just to stupid to book! What a plank

Electric grass pitch

Liked: If you’re after a quiet place to chill then I recommend this place . There are small walks nearby and if bird watching then this could delight. We booked at the half moon pub for a carvery meal and wasn’t disappointed…the meat quality was very good.

Disliked: Only gripes I have are about the shower block , it’s a £1 coin operation for couple minutes, I believe this to be “ out of date “ and not with the times especially after COVID times where we still don’t have “ loose change in our pockets. Other gripe is where we were sitting having the carvery us and other customers were “ locked in “ to our seats because there wasn’t enough room to move a chair to get out…several people had to move out of their seats to allow someone to go to the bar or other requirements.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely friendly pub with great food and helpful staff.
Well kept flat pitches which were a good size.

Disliked: Didn’t once meet the owners during the 3 days we were there. No greeting or checking that we should have been there. Having to pay £1 for a 2 minute shower on top of the camp fees was a pain especially as the first minute was lost waiting for hot water and regulating the temperature. Only 1 male toilet meant queues in the morning even though there were only 2 other units there. One of the toilets in the ladies leaked. We did report this in the pub but previous reviews proved that they were aware.

From the manager: thanks for your review Karen. I was on site everyday & staff are in the pub everyday, so we leave you alone while you stay. As for the toilet leak it had been previously repaired but we had to close the toilets, isolate the water & remove the cubicles to access for cistern replacing. I guess you would of complained even more with no toilets to use for a full day! As for the showers, the fee charged doesnt even cover the cost of water & electric over the year. We charge for showers to try keep our pitch fees low, have you heard about the rising cost or do you keep your head in a bucket? Thanks again for your review, now trott on!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Couldn’t fault the site. Liked that there was very little involvement from owners. Although it wasn’t fully booked the campers were nicely spread out so not to feel on top of each other. Pitches were nice and flat. Toilet cabin and showers were warm and clean. Text received on morning of arrival with everything in we needed to know. Didn’t use wifi or have kids so given 5 stars under assumption it would be as nice as the rest of the site. There is a small wooden play area at the top of the site.

Disliked: My only dislike is the showers but it’s a very minor dislike. We couldn’t figure out if there was a way to keep it running longer than 10 seconds. Would be much better if they ran continuously for however much time was paid for

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Great communication with owner. Met on arrival and given help to pitch up. Site sits adjacent to the river Ouse with spectacular views and walks. Half moon Inn is a great pub with stacks of character. The food is amazing we had dinner there on the Saturday evening, portions are huge. Went back for their famous Sunday carvery, it doesn't disappoint. If staying here, book early for the carvery as it gets really busy. Site has all the regular facilities for motorhomes and camping. Shower room available, however be advised it is coin operated at 1 pound for two minutes !. WiFi only available in or around the pub, does not extend to the pitch

Disliked: Additional charges for hot shower

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Good for dog walking.

Disliked: Didn't see owners in the 4 night stay.Toilets could benefit from some heating and cleaning,1 door lock broken 1 toilet very wet floor all the time we were there and the door into the ladies doesn't shut properly.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Why did you not inform us that there was a leak in the toilets. it has now been repaired, but could of been repaired straight away if you had bothered to inform us! But you decided to be a Karen & just give us a poor review. Also upon inspection no door lock was broken, and all doors closed properly.

Local attractions

Set off from the site for strolls along the Ouse, along the riverside path to the villages of Whitgift and Ousefleet, a mile and two miles respectively, or further afield to Adlingfleet (four miles) or Fockerby and Garthorpe (each six miles away, and surely worth an extra dessert at the pub later). You can also opt to hike the three miles to Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve, for more active hours wandering around the biggest tidal reedbed in England to spot the likes of marsh harriers and bitterns. Pick up the birdwatching challenge sheet from the centre's reception to see how many you can tick off; prizes are awarded for the best sightings. Guaranteed sightings are among the critters of Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 40 minutes' drive away just outside Doncaster: species to see here include lions, tigers, lemurs, baboons and the only polar bears living in an English zoo. Hull is 45 minutes away for shopping and sightseeing.
