Converted from the former farmstead at Highfield Farm, 10 minutes’ drive from Driffield in the spectacular Yorkshire Wolds, the luxurious wooden cabins at Wold Escapes are cosy, peaceful and surrounded by private farmland. Book in for chilled-out stays in the region that inspired many of David Hockey’s famed landscape paintings, and be inspired yourself by the undulating scenery and open horizons. The cabins are surrounded by wildflower meadows and each is kitted out with a proper double bed and sofa bed, plenty of living space and a spacious ensuite shower room as well as a kitchen corner. They are dog friendly, and up to two dogs are allowed to accompany you on your stay. Outside each one is private decking with a hot tub (just the job for having a soak while watching a vivid sunset on clear days), a barbecue and a seating area for stunning evenings under the big Wolds skies. Guests have access to private footpaths that run through the farmland, taking in a chalk stream, which is home to local wildlife including kingfishers, herons and water voles. Access to the Way of the Roses cycle route is direct from the glamping cabins, and there is secure undercover bike storage on site, along with electric bike-charging facilities should you need them.

Goldie cabin

Liked: Lovely cabin in an amazing location, view is great enhanced by a beautiful wild flower section along the field in front. Great facilities, everything easy to use. It is remote, one track roads lead in but it is easy to find and located near lots of things to do.

Goldie cabin

Liked: Fantastic place to stay very relaxing. Hot tub warm to get in on arrival and all throughout the stay. Cabin had everything needed. Good location for day trips too.

Disliked: Sofa bed a little uncomfortable but manageable for short stay. Could maybe add a matress topper with extra bedding .

Local attractions

Wold Escapes is something of a paradise for cyclists, situated on the Way of the Roses bike route as it meanders from Morecambe on the west coast to Bridlington (an hour and 45 minutes by bike). Dalby Forest (45 minutes’ drive) also offers up a myriad of opportunities for cyclists and walkers, as well as the gentle Gruffalo Trail through pine forest to keep the kids on their toes. Culture abounds in this peaceful corner of East Yorkshire: explore the medieval Minster in Beverley (20 minutes) and have a stroll around the cobbled streets of its historic town centre, lined with timber-framed buildings. You can also explore the graceful 18th-century mansion designed by John Vanbrugh at Castle Howard, or make a day of it in York (both 45 minutes), where there’s the famed gothic-era Minster and lifelike dioramas at Jorvik Viking Centre to see, as well as boat cruises along the River Ouse. Heading for an east-coast beach? You have a choice of several in less than 45 minutes’ drive, including quiet Barmston and the lively, well-known triumvirate of Bridlington, Scarborough and Filey.
