  • Peaceful Yorkshire Wolds farm site with easy road access
  • A 10-minute drive to Sledmere House; 25 minutes to Bridlington
  • Well-equipped guest kitchen and heated bathrooms on site
A peaceful rural camping spot, but one that doesn't involve negotiating lots of little country lanes? What you need is a pitch at East End Farm Campsite, in the East Yorkshire countryside just on the edge of the village of Garton-on-the-Wolds. This quiet and spacious site is easily accessed from the A166, so it's straightforward to get in and out for your days of walking the Yorkshire Wolds, exploring nearby stately homes (of which there are many) or heading over to the coast. On a more practical level it also means it’s easy to get into Driffield (five minutes’ drive) for a place to eat or to pick up supplies at the shops for meals back at base. This location isn't all about the simplicity of driving – it’s also a handy spot for those who'd like to get out on foot or by bike. The Yorkshire Wolds Way and Way of the Roses cycle trail are both close by, and there are plenty more walking and bike routes to explore nearby too (with golf, fishing and horse riding also close by for a change of activity). The campsite has been nicely thought out, with different areas designated for adults and family groups to ensure a comfortable experience for all, and a good collection of facilities including heated bathrooms and a kitchen area with a fridge, microwave and washing machine. Dogs are welcome, and you should find plenty of places to walk them nearby.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Loads of space so a bit of a stretch with the ehu (may need to get an extension).
Friendly owners.
Lovely clean facilities.

Disliked: A little bit far to nearest amenities (3 miles to Driffield), Little Driffield only 1.5 miles but no shop and pub not open until 7pm (closed Saturday!).

From the manager: thanks for your review. Alas the lady who run our shop passed away four years ago and her husband - the publican - the year before. In such a small village a store is no longer viable

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Great little spot in the heart of Yorkshire. Owners gave us a warm welcome and came across very friendly. Surrounding countryside was breathtaking with a small amount of farm animals in adjacent fields. Grass pitch with electric hook up was of a good size but leveling ramps were needed. Toilets and shower rooms where of a high standard and indoor pot wash was a nice touch. Shops supermarket and pubs within walking distance. Will definitely recommend this site and will be returning in the future.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The single shower and two toilets in the gents washroom were lovely and warm, as well as clean and tidy
The separate kitchen area was also warm, clean and spacious
The pitch was level and I utilised one of the two hard standing pitches for my micro-camper van
Water tap alongside the pitch was welcome
The site is in the centre of a rural farming village and small flock of sheep graze in an adjoining paddock

Disliked: There was some traffic noise from the main street (A614)which takes traffic from York to Bridlington

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Loved this place and couldn’t fault anything about it. Really high end and well looked after toilet and shower facilities.
Owners were the nicest and most welcoming we’ve ever come across. As we set up they came to see if we were okay and if we’d forgotten anything which they could then lend to us, like a mallet, pegs, etc.

Local attractions

There’s some lovely scenery to explore around the chalk hills of the Yorkshire Wolds, so it’s a fine area for a walk or a bike ride. If you’d like to get around in a different way, you could sign up for horse riding from Woldgate Trekking & Livery Centre (20 minutes’ drive) or take a heritage railway ride from the Yorkshire Wolds Railway museum (10 minutes). This area is rich in historic buildings to visit too – your stately home tour might take you to places like Sledmere House (10 minutes), Burton Agnes Hall (15 minutes), Castle Howard (35 minutes) and Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (40 minutes). For green-fingered types, Burnby Hall Gardens (25 minutes) is the place to go, with lakes, a walled garden and an Edwardian rock garden. For days out with the kids, try a Highland cow safari at Dumble Farm (20 minutes), traditional seaside antics at Bridlington beach (25 minutes) or a look at underwater life at The Deep aquarium in Hull (45 minutes).
