  • Quiet, spacious site on a family-run farm in Suffolk
  • In a walker's haven a few miles from the coast
  • Six coarse fishing ponds and a shop selling bait
Fancy some farm fishing? Field Farm Fisheries is a quiet and spacious site that’s stuffed to the gills with coarse fish over six good-sized fishing ponds. Set on a friendly, family-run farm in Suffolk, it is a well-established site that has been running for many years. It's also easy to access, with a wide driveway. Just one mile from the village of Wrentham, the farm is also in a top spot for wanders. Stroll into the village in around 20 minutes along the local footpath. In the village, there is a small shop as well as places to eat including a pub, a Chinese takeaway (that also delivers) and a deli-style café. Field Farm Fisheries also has easy access to excellent walks nearby, and for coastal and seaside days, as the Suffolk coast is only a few miles away. Southwold, Walberswick, Halesworth and Beccles are all within a short drive of the farm. The well-kept amenities at this peaceful place include four showers, toilet blocks, hot water taps, two washing-up sinks, a fresh water supply and a chemical waste disposal point. You're welcome to bring your dogs on holiday with you here. Handily for dog-friendly getaways, the site has a large dog-walking field where dogs can run off the lead. There are footpaths directly accessible from the field if you fancy extending their 'walkies' elsewhere. The angling on site covers all ages and ability levels; there's also a shop on site with a good selection of bait and tackle maggots. (Fishing is subject to an extra charge, payable on the bank.)

Liked: I received a friendly welcome to Field Farm Fisheries. Everything I needed to know about rules, facilities and local information was pleasantly and clearly conveyed. Camping areas are spacious and although some parts are uneven, I found plenty of room available in the flat area. The toilet and shower facilities are fairly basic but ultimately very clean and perfectly functional. Cold showers are free but you will need a £1 coin to operate the hot water timer (you get 5 minutes), which I considered to be more than acceptable considering the pitch price. I visited St Andrews Church which was built inside the ruins of another church .... a 1 hour walk from the camp site, and also the beach at Covehithe, around 15 minutes walk from the church. Wrentham village is a 20 minute walk and offers a cafe, pub and shops. There are many other relatively local attractions including museums, nature reserves, seaside towns and the Norfolk Broads, all well within a sensible driving distance.
I would consider Field Farm Fisheries camp site an ideal base for exploring local attractions and I'm confident that I will return soon.

Disliked: There was nothing I disliked.

It’s in a great location, only 15 minutes from Southwold, Beccles, Dunwich. We had such a lovely few days there.

Local attractions

Among the Field Farm Fisheries family's most topping local picks is a day at Southwold a few miles away, for the local brewery tours, beach, museum and spectacular Southwold Pier. The town's Henham Park is also the venue for the theatre events, dance, film, cabaret and more at the annual Latitude Festival, held over one weekend in July. Southwold is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, covering towns including Aldeburgh and Dunwich as well as marsh, heathland and shingle beach. The AONB is crossed by three long-distance walking trails: the Suffolk Coast Path, the Sandlings Walk and the Stour and Orwell Walk. For a sandy beach day, head to the peaceful Covehithe beach, Southwold or Great Yarmouth. Other options include the two beaches and harbour of Lowestoft, a North Sea town that's the most easterly settlement in the UK. If you're yearning for more outdoors, Britain’s biggest wetland the Broads National Park is a spiffing nearby option for boating, biking, hiking and wildlife watching along its seven rivers, 63 broads, 28 Sites of Special Scientific Interest and eight national nature reserves. Or have a themed family day out at Pleasurewood Hills theme park and Africa Alive! wildlife park, both within a short drive. Sky-diving and go-karting activities are also a short drive away.
