  • Family-friendly secure site in meadows near Woodbridge, Suffolk
  • A 20-minute drive to Sutton Hoo; 25 minutes to Felixstowe beach
  • Dogs are welcome; five minutes’ walk to a pub
How about a Suffolk break at a spot with masses of room for kids and dogs to run around safely? A break on 4.5 acres of secluded meadow surrounded by mature trees? Dan’s Meadow is a small family-run site accessed by a tree-lined driveway with a locked gateway for extra security. It’s close to the historic riverside town of Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive), in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so there are lots of coastal walks and bike rides to discover (most seem to include pub stops). If you’re bringing dogs, there are riverside walks direct from the site too – the friendly owners are happy to suggest touring and exploring ideas for you if you want to go further afield. Family-centric on-site facilities include a modern loo and shower block. There’s also a utility room with hot and cold running water and a communal fridge-freezer. Barbecues are permitted on site, and there’s plenty of room for sitting around the fire and relaxing with a glass of wine as you eat. If you prefer an evening stroll, there’s a warm welcome at the local pub (five minutes’ walk), and there’s a takeaway nearby too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Quiet

Disliked: Nothing for kids,at least swing would be great

From the manager: Good morning Daria,

Sorry there wasn't many children around at this time for your daughter to play with. There was a child's play area a 10 minute walk up the road and a children's big play centre 10 minute drive Called Play 2 day.

There are a few activities around which might have helped.

Kylie

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We stayed at Dan's Meadow for a weekend in April. This was our first time at this site and have already booked to return again in May. The whole experience from booking to leaving the site was a real pleasure. Kylie who runs the site, was in contact before the date of arrival, with all the details including pitch number, electronic gate entry code and info about the site, which made everything so easy.

Kylie and Alan (the maintenance guy) were extremely friendly and could not do enough for us. Very helpful.

The site is secure, very peaceful, with spacious and level pitches. It is really clean and the toilets and showers are spotless. The TV and phone reception was very good.

The site is well-placed to visit Woodbridge, Felixtowe, Aldeburgh and other parts of the Suffolk coast.

There is a pub/restaurant (The Red Lion) five minutes walk down the road. It is dog friendly both inside and out. We ate there on one occassion and had a drink the next day, over the weekend. The food was fantastic. The staff are friendly and polite and extremely accomodating.

Thank you to Kylie for making our stay special, and we look forward to visiting this lovely site again soon.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Very clean, big bathrooms! Great amenities good size pitches and nice walks close, including to a decent pub.

Disliked: Nothing about the campsite but you can hear the A12(?) in the background... ... ...but then again if you're stopping on the way somewhere then proximity to the motorway is a bonus.

Liked: From the moment we booked we received clear, helpful and supportive communication. They noted our requests and actioned them perfectly .

It’s a Spacious, well kept, clean, Beautifully picturesque field with clear, well spaced out pitches on an even ground .. the shower blocks are simple yet clean and sufficient

On our first morning , one of the owners , Andrew came and introduced himself and had a lovely chat where he made sure we were all ok and shared his local knowledge too .

We would highly recommend this site .

Local attractions

Suffolk has much in the way of history to discover, from walks along fortified walls at majestic Framlingham Castle or the towering keep and maze of underground passages at Orford Castle (both 25 minutes’ drive). And of course one of the big-hitting attractions in these parts is the Anglo-Saxon burial treasures at Sutton Hoo (20 minutes), all gloriously displayed in a National Trust-owned exhibition. Many local countryside walks and cycle routes include pub stops, and you can play golf or take to horseback to ride through local woodlands within a half-hour’s drive. The odd rainy day is taken care of with a swimming pool and cinema in Ipswich (20 minutes). The seaside town of Felixstowe (25 minutes) is a great day trip for splashing around off the sandy beach or checking out the arcades along the pier, while Flatford Mill (40 minutes) sits in gorgeous countryside in Constable Country and is a popular spot for walks along the River Stour and in Dedham Vale.
