Plenty of space for kids to have fun
Open fields

  • Busy, well-equipped site surrounded by the open Suffolk countryside
  • Half an hour’s drive from Sutton Hoo; 45 minutes from the coast
  • Theatre, restaurant, mini golf, owl sanctuary and play area on site
Looking for a Suffolk spot with lots of open space? The dog-friendly Stonham Barns Holiday Park might hit the sweet spot. Well-placed for the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside and coast, this place is equal parts relaxing and active. The latter is very much helped by the fact that the site is part of the Stonham Barns Golf Park site, which has a whole host of family-friendly (and quite frankly fabulous) attractions… There’s a pirate-themed miniature golf course, a sensory room and a funfair with rides and bumper cars, which should all prove a hit with pint-sized guests. No need to go hunting in the trees: the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary on site has over 80 owls and daily flying displays featuring birds of prey. Catch a comedy or tribute act at the Aspal Theatre, sojourn at the fishing lakes or get creative at the pottery painting studio, all of which are on site. Among these attractions are handy foodie places too. There’s a tearoom if you’re craving an afternoon tea and cake, a restaurant powered by local produce and a village shop selling essential food fare. These pair well with the bar and clubhouse, which has sports screens and celebrity evenings, and a shopping village full of niche independent shops. Along with a showground hosting weekly events like car or dog shows and a Sunday car boot fair, these are all one to two minutes’ walk from the pitches. On the immediate site, however, the facilities include showers, toilets, a washing-up area, disabled facilities, wifi, a kids’ play area and spaces for kids to run around and let off steam. There's also a post office on site which provides cash back and other banking services.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Almost everything. Nice pitch, excellent location, with plenty on site to keep us busy.

Disliked: Water pressure is horrendous and I think it's off grid as water ran out while we were there and was turned off while a tank was refilled from the reserve tank??
Toilets not great fishers and shower cubicles very small

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The site had so much to do!
Absolutely brilliant time had by all!
Crazy golf was brilliant
Funfair was great for the kids!
The little shops were lovely to look around
Legends was very well priced for food and drink, although we didn't eat we definitely will next time 😀
Tent pitch was a lovely size, we have a large tent and have struggled to pitch up at some places but absolutely lovely size here!

Disliked: Showers weren't the best for the mens . Ladies I found fine!

Toilet roll holders, the toilet roll wouldn't turn inside them and ripped off one square at a time. Not the end of the world but annoying when taking 2 kids to the toilet haha.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lots to do as it's like a small village. There was a dog obedient show on whilst we stayed also a boot fair on the day we departed.
The legends bar had entertainment and served food which although you had to wait a while for it to arrive it's was delicious and hot

Disliked: Our arrival was rather chaotic. It was very busy and we where shown to our pitch which we actually shared with another motorhome couple. Even though we had paid for our own pitch. But we followed her instruction. We were not told were the elsan point, taps or grey waste disposals where located had to find them ourselves. We never actually found the grey waste point. I believe if they had the tents in one area, motorhomes and camper vans in another and caravans in another it would work much better. But we had tents pitched up next to motorhomes etc. Not enough toilets or showers to accommodate the amount of visitors staying on site. A dull sound of the generator for all the electric hook ups could be heard through out the night in other motorhome and there was actually tents set up between us and the generator so for them the should would have been much louder

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Plenty of room on the pitch. Plenty of dog walking places. Things to do shopping eating drinking. Golf fishing. Special weekend features through the year. Good Wi-Fi.

Disliked: Toilet blocks and showers old fashioned needs upgrades. As it was an advent weekend several were blocked showers not working and plentiful water stand pipes but no water.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely site which had Fishing, fantastic mini golf (which i won), shops, Cafe and bar.
The Cafe food was great value .
The legends bar is reasonably priced and nice food, looks smart and clean and the staff were lovely and welcoming, though lack of seating for busy periods.
Car boot on the Sunday, which is a nice touch. Bingo night was very fun.
managed to get wifi in the caravan .
Showers and toilets clean.

Disliked: If you are 5ft tall the showers are OK but any taller you struggle! pressure was bad, sometimes stopped and ran cold. Radiators in shower areas, never on.
Caught two kids walking their dogs and left a number two beside our caravan, we offered a poo bag but they walked off (nothing to do with the site).
Only one elsan point at the other end of the site, when I asked were the water waste drop off was I was asked to lift my waste tank onto the elsan (silly way to dump waste water) but then dropped my waste tank cap down the drain (gone never got it back).
Fully serviced pitch would be great 👍

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Liked 👍Excellent facilities, except men's bathroom as my husband didn't find hot water in all 3 days! It's been redirected to have a shower at the female bathroom..However, great for childrens, good for barbecue, there is a bar as well which plays music until late night, maybe midnight! We book the place expecially for fishing, for my son, but it's not aloud on weekends as there are static caravans, privatelly owners so we've been told no. We went home one day before even that it was paid already, as we found it a little bit limited, but recommended for who just want to relax.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We really enjoyed the park they have at the campsite, our 5 and 3 year old really enjoyed it. They loved all the space on the field too!
Luckily it was a really quiet time to go, so they loved the space.

The staff are all so friendly and helpful, the toilets and facilities were all very clean too.

Small walk to shops, cafe, park, funfair, golf, which we all just loved, there was something for everybody!

Local attractions

With all the attractions on site, it might be a while till you look outwards in search of entertainment. However, when you do, the Suffolk coastline is splendidly within reach, as the site is on the A1120 tourist road. Thorpeness (50 minutes' drive), Aldeburgh (45 minutes) Southwold (50 minutes) deliver on walks, watersports and simple seaside amusements. This is also an excellent place to channel your inner historian and deep dive into the past. Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) is a Norman castle with a walk across the 10-metre-high walls. Sutton Hoo (half an hour) is just as spectacular, with two medieval cemeteries where a ship with Anglo-Saxon pieces was found. Perhaps pretty walks and eating out in restored Victorian buildings next? Snape Maltings (40 minutes) on the river Alde is a splendid setting for strolls and cycles, whether around the riverside loop or joining the Suffolk Coast Cycle Route 41. Take in the scenery on a river boat or sip on something caffeinated in the many independent eating venues in the Victorian buildings.
