Plenty of space for kids to have fun
Open fields

  • Busy, well-equipped site surrounded by the open Suffolk countryside
  • Half an hour’s drive from Sutton Hoo; 45 minutes from the coast
  • Shop, restaurant, miniature golf, owl sanctuary and play area on site
Looking for a Suffolk spot with lots of open space? The dog-friendly Stonham Barns Holiday Park might hit the sweet spot. Well-placed for the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside and coast, this place is equal parts relaxing and active. The latter is very much helped by the fact that the site is part of the Stonham Barns Golf Park site, which has a whole host of family-friendly (and quite frankly fabulous) attractions… There’s a pirate-themed miniature golf course, a sensory room and a funfair with rides and bumper cars, which should all prove a hit with pint-sized guests. No need to go hunting in the trees: the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary on site has over 80 owls and daily flying displays featuring birds of prey. Catch a comedy or tribute act at the Aspal Theatre, sojourn at the fishing lakes or get creative at the pottery painting studio, all of which are on site. Among these attractions are handy foodie places too. There’s a tearoom if you’re craving an afternoon tea and cake, a restaurant powered by local produce and a village shop selling essential food fare. These pair well with the bar and clubhouse, which has sports screens and celebrity evenings, and a shopping village full of niche independent shops. Along with a showground hosting weekly events like car or dog shows and a Sunday car boot fair, these are all one to two minutes’ walk from the pitches. On the immediate site, however, the facilities include showers, toilets, a washing-up area, disabled facilities, wifi, a kids’ play area and spaces for kids to run around and let off steam. There's also a post office on site which provides cash back and other banking services.

What customers say

Stonham Barns offers a wide range of activities for all ages, including an owl sanctuary, crazy golf, and fishing. Reviewers praised the friendly and helpful staff, spacious pitches, and generally clean facilities. However, multiple guests noted that the toilet and shower blocks are dated and require urgent refurbishment, with some experiencing issues with cleanliness and hot water. Despite these facility concerns, many visitors enjoyed their stay and would return, appreciating the variety of on-site entertainment and amenities.

Liked Nothing

Disliked Everything. Closed closet toilets and showers to us and blamed it on the electrical issues. Closed the bar due to travellers on site and closed the shop. Toilets were digusting and so so dirty. Every time I complained I was told there’s no where to complain as we are in administration. Won’t get money back and it was an awful experience

Liked Big field to walk the dog, lovely lakes for fishing,

Disliked The cafe on site was shocking with rude staff talking about customers and there children, flies around the kitchen which happens to be by the toilets, food not edible and not willing to make it better just blamed us for ordering it. Toilet blocks were filthy from some of the people on site we also had not much sleep from how loud it was at night.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Mini golf was good staff friendly and helpful, carboot when it was there.

Disliked The toilet containers were constantly wrecked even with a cleaner once a day and ended up being locked for the last 2 days of the holiday so had to use ones that were either out of order or covered in wee and poo, its basically a travellers site where they do what they want even past 12pm when quiet time is 10/10:30pm, no staff around or able to help with any problems when trying to complain they all send you to different people not help security are rubbish do nothing, pubs shut and fenced off half time shops OK but shuts too early at 5, seems like there's lots included but there's not. The whole site by the end of the week just seemed like it was on lock down

Liked Camping with tent --- our first stay - a really good site - loads of room on back field - the little village and sports bar all walking distance - would go back

Disliked The electric hook up you seemed to be very close to each other -- lucky i had a second extension to my lead - so we moved to the back field and run the extension - other wise would of be put in between two camper vans

The usual with toilets and showers - they need a bit of updating - and get messy when well used - the lady came round once in morning and early evening to clean

Liked Playground was ok for the children.

Disliked As soon as you drive into the site your met with storage area for caravans most of them we old green/dirty not something you want to be greeted straight away with.

The electric hook ups are way too close to each other. Packed in like sardines. Your ok if your not electric they had a whole massive field to pitch up on.

Toilets and showers need updating massively also a really good clean. Most of the clientele didn’t know how to look/ use them well.

The washing up station didn’t even have hot water and pretty sure they haven’t been cleaned either for a long time. Again clientele left them disgusting as well.

When we arrived on the Friday evening no electric, the electric also went off Saturday morning at 7 we left the site at 8:15 still wasn’t on. According to a gentleman at the reception it happens a lot when they have a loads of people staying. So maybe not have some many or update your electrics to be able to cope with that many people.

Groups of people having music up loud singing shouting even kids playing football until early hours of the morning two nights in a row when it states the campsite is quiet from 10pm

People driving to the playground to tell there kids to go back to there caravans with there caravans were 1min away from the playground. So unsafe

The site could be great if it actually looked after properly and had a little bit of money spent on it.

Liked Stonham Barns has lots of activities to keep you busy, the owl sanctuary, crazy golf, football golf all of which the children and adults really enjoyed. Adults enjoyed a couple of rounds of golf and trip to legends sports bar, very clean, staff friendly.

Disliked The campsite: unfortunately there were groups of people who were noisy, played music into early hours of the morning, drove their cars around the site, shouting, swearing and were able to continue this night after night. There were also groups of children with same behaviours meaning our children were not able to go off and play and ride their bikes without an adult present as they were being sworn at.

The campsite is huge and the two open toilet blocks were not enough to manage the number of people. Showers were cold, toilets were filthy.

Local attractions

With all the attractions on site, it might be a while till you look outwards in search of entertainment. However, when you do, the Suffolk coastline is splendidly within reach, as the site is on the A1120 tourist road. Thorpeness (50 minutes' drive), Aldeburgh (45 minutes) Southwold (50 minutes) deliver on walks, watersports and simple seaside amusements. This is also an excellent place to channel your inner historian and deep dive into the past. Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) is a Norman castle with a walk across the 10-metre-high walls. Sutton Hoo (half an hour) is just as spectacular, with two medieval cemeteries where a ship with Anglo-Saxon pieces was found. Perhaps pretty walks and eating out in restored Victorian buildings next? Snape Maltings (40 minutes) on the river Alde is a splendid setting for strolls and cycles, whether around the riverside loop or joining the Suffolk Coast Cycle Route 41. Take in the scenery on a river boat or sip on something caffeinated in the many independent eating venues in the Victorian buildings.
