  • Small family-run site on a working arable farm 10 miles from Ipswich
  • 15 minutes' drive from Felixstowe beach on the Suffolk coast
  • Hire a firepit for keeping warm and toasting marshmallows
Cosy by name, cosy by nature – this small site in the Suffolk countryside is part of a working arable farm that’s been in the same family for more than 75 years. As guests, you are cordially invited to share this friendly corner of the Ramsey family home, 10 miles from Ipswich and easily accessible from the A14 and A12. Peace, quiet and the great outdoors are all yours for the taking at Cosy Camping Suffolk, with little to distract you from the important business of enjoying life in the slow lane. There are no organised activities or fancy facilities here, but there’s heaps of space for kids to run around and play games. When evening comes, hire one of the site’s firepits to gather round to toast marshmallows while having a good old-fashioned natter. As it’s a petite site you’ll not have to walk too far from your pitch to find the toilet block, which has showers and a handy wet room for use by families or less mobile guests. If you're going to light up a barbie, the owners recommend picking up supplies from one of the farm shops in Trimley, five minutes’ drive away, or heading to the excellent Suffolk Food Hall in Ipswich. You may prefer to avoid the washing-up altogether of course, in which case you can take a 20-minute stroll to the nearest pub for freshly prepared meals and local cask ales.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: A rural campsite, which when full is empty.
Toilets were v clean and had a sink with hot water.
The shower block (3 shower rooms) 1 with disabilty access, 2 others. Each had a toilet, sink with hot water and shower cubicle with a great push button, timed, hot shower.
There is a mini shop in the reception.
There is a pub 1.5km away, easy to walk to.
Buses do go from near the pub to Fexlistowe, maybe Ipswich as well. Info could have been available.
Campsite is tidy and spacious. Owners are friendly.
Pods and bell tents can be rented.
Cars are parked in the car park.
Nice to hear buzzards meowing.
No campsite lighting
Some picnic tables are available to use.

Disliked: No bar or social area

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great campsite in beautiful setting. Lovely owners, good facilities. Short drive to nearby beaches. Half an hour walk down quiet country lanes to local pub for a pint. Lucky enough to visit during the annual Perseid Meteor so treated to two nights of shooting stars whilst cooking and drinking round the campfire. A great weekend.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Wonderful campsite. Very clean facilities. Spacious pitches. Responsive owners, replying to email queries quickly - thank you.

Disliked: A little noise from the main road - not disruptive but just making campers aware in case it would bother them.

Local attractions

This part of Suffolk is famed for its beaches, and your nearest will be in Felixstowe, which you can reach with a 15-minute drive or a half-hour cycle. Walk through the Seafront Gardens to reach the beach, and then head north along the coast to see the Martello Towers that were built here to keep Napoleon’s army out in the early 19th century. 20 minutes’ drive from the farm is the archaeological site Sutton Hoo; more recent history can be seen at the Ipswich Transport Museum – exhibits include fire engines, buses, trams and horse-drawn vehicles from the 19th and 20th centuries. For some farmyard fun, spend the day at Jimmy’s Farm, 15 minutes away, where you can meet animals including sheep, ponies, pigs and meerkats – don’t forget to pick up a bag of food to feed them. If the horses are your faves, you can see some handsome native types at the Suffolk Punch Centre, half an hour away. If you’ve been inspired to get out on horseback, there’s a riding centre 20 minutes away that has activities for kids and adults. Golfers, meanwhile, have a choice of two courses within a 20-minute drive.
