  • Peaceful adults-only site two miles from the Norfolk Broads
  • A 15-minute drive from Norwich city centre; 25 minutes from the coast
  • Atmospheric night-time vibes from lit woodlands; café and farm shop
If boating on The Broads has long been on your bucket list, take a look here: the dog-friendly Black Barn Farm is a peaceful place to pitch up two miles from the edge of the national park. Here, the adults-only pitches are in a 22-acre field in an established orchard and surrounded by woodlands, making for a rather chilled-out stay. This area is known as the big sky country, so splendid sunsets and lights in the trees create a pretty nice night-time vibe. You’ll be able to kick off the evening with a firepit or barbecue too, as both are permitted on site. A 15-minute drive from Norwich, this site is on the edge of Salhouse, a rural Broads village. So, bridleways and footpaths may be the first thing to capture your attention, as they lead the way to walking, wildlife spotting and canoe hire in the Salhouse Broad – or there's a place to launch your own canoe or paddleboard, two miles away from the site. Convenience is key at this site, starting with the toilets and showers inside the barn, all heated with auto light switches for that extra ease. The barn also has a small farm shop and a café that serves up sizeable breakfasts plus sandwiches and snacks. Nearby, a train station and bus stop are within walking distance with regular services to Norwich city centre or the coast. Foodie? The local food shop is a 20-minute walk away along a public footpath (or a five-minute car journey). For more specific bits, there’s a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away and beer aficionados will find a brewery and pub five minutes’ drive away too.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, adult-only campsite with spacious, level pitches, many with water and electric. Facilities are new, clean and generally well-maintained, though some found the number of showers/toilets limited during busy periods. The on-site barn with its cafe, farm shop and market is highly praised for its food and local produce. It's a great base for exploring the Broads and Norwich, with good public transport links. Some minor issues noted include WiFi availability and small sinks in toilet cubicles.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very informal, quiet adult only site. Showers were generally very clean and we enjoyed breakfast in the barn. Jason’s Fish and Chips is a 5 min drive and excellent!

Disliked A small point but the area on the way in could do with a tidy up or just hidden.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Nice quiet campsite in the countryside with a farm shop, cafe & a friendly owner. On a bus routes to Norwich in one direction & Wroxham & further in the other. Toilets & showers were spotlessly clean. Owner is aware of the shortage of these facilities & is trying to rectify this.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Adults only so very quiet and civilised. Laid back attitude of Trevor, the owner..just lets everyone get on with it and doesn't patrol the site like the wardens do at some other places we've stayed. Huge level pitches. Ours had a picnic table and a water tap which would have qualified as a super pitch at other sites and would have cost more. The barn complex with all the shops (especially the butcher) and restaurant are awesome as is the large orchard with its apple trees, pear trees, Christmas trees, blackcurrants, red currants, asparagus...lovely to walk through. Bathrooms were excellent..only 2 showers but I never had to wait. Farmers market was on when we arrived on a Saturday and on Wednesday an excellent seafood truck is onsite from 8am serving all sorts of fresh fish and other seafood. We had a couple of dressed Cromer crabs for dinner that night. All in all an excellent site.

Disliked A couple of suggestions..

There were no mirrors in the toilet/washbasin cubicles.

A hairdryer would be handy by the showers.

Also, the EE phone reception was shocking (not just onsite but in surrounding areas too) and no WiFi except in the barn complex. WiFi on the pitches would be appreciated even if just to research what to do and where to go during our stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Can't express enough how amazing this campsite is. We pitched up looking out into the woods and it was beautiful. Peaceful and tranquil and the owners were lovely. Even giving us a later check out for no extra charge. We were very sad to leave and will be back ASAP! Lovely to have the farm shop and seafood truck on site as well.

Disliked Nothing at all!

Local attractions

Nosy about Norwich (15 minutes’ drive)? Those of you who aren’t familiar with this cultural city will find there’s much to stick your nose into, from bargain hunting around the old market to a full-on shopping trip or a pitstop tour of the independent eateries and historic sites… the highlight reel includes the hilltop Norwich Castle and the 11th-century cathedral. Those of you who are keen to weave a bit of the seaside into your way will want to head on over to the sandy beach and dunes at Winterton beach (35 minutes) or onto Great Yarmouth (25 minutes). This seaside resort town is all about the traditional, including a funfair, sandy beaches and the Sea Life Great Yarmouth aquarium. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (25 minutes) has red pandas, tigers and leopards among them, while Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (25 minutes) couples up snakes, wallabies and alpacas with rides and playgrounds.
