  • Adults-only site on a working farm five miles from Fakenham
  • 20 minutes' drive from the beaches of the north Norfolk coast
  • Award-winning food pub a few minutes' drive away
Sorry kids, this one’s not the place for you – peaceful Norfolk retreat Whissonsett Hall Farm is strictly for grownups only. The absence of energetic kids makes this place, on a working farm five miles from Fakenham, a rather fine choice for frazzled folk in search of a quiet country break. Rural rambles and bike rides are a cinch from here, as are leisurely days pottering around gardens, historic sites or the gorgeously wild beaches of the north Norfolk coast, which is about 20 minutes away by car. Being sans kids might also mean a chance for a cheeky afternoon in the pub, so it’s handy that there’s an award-winning inn a couple of miles away with an excellent range of beers and a menu a notch or few up from the usual pub grub. Back at base, all is kept simple to aid the relaxed vibe: the cosy wooden pod you’ll be staying in has a pull-out double bed and a little kitchenette with microwave and kettle for your morning cuppa (best slurped sat out on the deck while filling up on fresh air). A short stroll away is a modern bathroom block with toilet and shower facilities.

Local attractions

Dust off those walking shoes, for there are many routes to stride forth on around these parts. The wildlife trails of Pensthorpe Natural Park and Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve are both within a 15-minute drive, and there’s excellent birdwatching to be had as you wend your way along the paths that run through the salt marshes of Holkham National Nature Reserve, half an hour away. Holkham’s got a rather fab beach, too, and the splendid Holkham Hall for ducking into if the weather takes a turn (although the ornate 18th-century mansion makes a good day out in its own right as well). While you’re up at the beach you may also like to wander round Wells-next-the-Sea or board a seal-spotting boat trip from Blakeney. If it’s historic houses you’d like to fill your holidays with, how about Houghton Hall, Raynham Hall or the ancient ruins of Walsingham Abbey? All are within a leisurely half-hour drive. And finally, one for those of you who’ve ever been kept awake by the other half: the villages of Little Snoring and Great Snoring are both around 20 minutes away.

Camping pod

Liked: Beautiful, warm and well equipped pods, very quiet and peaceful with fantastic sunsets, no light pollution so you can star gaze and see the milky way, loads of rabbits come out to play too. The pull out bed is very easy to do and comfy, and the kitchen area is more than adequate with fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle - also the whole pod was very clean. The owner is very friendly and welcoming, nothing too much trouble. Highly recommended and we will definitely book again for longer next time as we want to explore the area, this was a quick 2 night stay to attend a concert.

Disliked: There's nothing at all to dislike.

Camping pod

Liked: The pods are great, bare essentials provided kettle toaster microwave. We took everything like we were camping plates cutlery stove etc… fire pit table chairs. It’s so quiet and private and Loos very close and clean. Would definitely recommend.

Disliked: Could do with a separate washing up
Sink and draining board as doing it in the sink in loo is tricky with no where to place stuff.
Also maybe a few hooks for coats or towels too both outside and inside would be great!
