Grass pitches

  • Simple Cambridgeshire farm campsite 15 minutes’ drive from Royston
  • Imperial War Museum Duxford and Cambridge both half an hour’s drive
  • Peaceful grass pitches with hot showers available; livestock on site
Prefer somewhere off the beaten track? The camping field at Eastgate Farm may only be 15 minutes’ drive from Royston and half an hour from Cambridge, but both places seem far, far away from this peaceful spot. Just a handful of level grass pitches are available on the small farm site, with no-frills facilities stretching to a shower and toilet, washing-up sink, water fill-up and waste disposal. Barbecues are permitted on the camping field (you’ll need to bring all the gear with you), and you can stock up on groceries in the supermarket at Royston. If you’d rather have a complete break from cooking, there are several pubs within 10 minutes’ drive, or you could make a night of it in Cambridge restaurants. A few practicalities now: as this is a rural working farm with livestock, please expect the sights, sounds and smells of a farm. The camping field is off-grid, so remember torches for night-time meanderings, and while the site is level and flat, it can be wet in early winter.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice small straightforward campsite with views over fields and convenient to run Wimpole Estate parkrun and visit the Hall and Farm Park. Friendly welcome from owner and nice big spots to pitch in.

Disliked: We camped the road side of the site and cars are quite noisy as they go past, worth pitching the field side if spots are vacant!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Large pitch, not to close to each other. Basic but has essentials and it’s quiet 👍 A working farm so lovely to see the lambs. No fuss and chilled out! And very importantly .. it’s inexpensive👍👍

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We liked the locations and the gambolling lambs.

Disliked: The toilets were not great. One of them didn’t work at all, had a leaking pipe from the sink and the other didn’t have a working light.
Washing up area also had leaking pipe.

From the manager: Hello,
Apologies for your stay, i found the toilet when i checked in the morning bunged up with paper and fixed the problem, the other toilet without the light I did point this out that we are waiting for the electrician to fix the light. We always ask guests to let us know if something isn't working to let us know and we can then rectify as soon as possible. We are busy on the farm and check the facilities morning and evening so if something happens in the mean time we wont know.

Apologies again
Regards

Nick

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Great off grid setup (although there is one pitch with hook up) It's on a working farm, but for us that was a plus. Nice view of the sunset as long as the weather plays ball! Will be back for sure. Mobile phone signal weak, but that's to be expected.

Liked: Basic but perfectly lovely , on a farm so speaks for itself. Rouge sheep decided the grass was greener etc but had the good sense to return to its mates. Host came over to check I was ok which is a really nice touch.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Easy to book, emailed Nick to confirm my dog was allowed and yes well behaved dogs are welcome as there is a sheep in the next field. I parked up and was soon welcomed by Nick ( owner) shown where amenities are and for 3 blissful days I enjoyed 100% peace n quiet. There is a quite road the other side of the hedge but hardly used in the time i spent there. It is a working farm so all the farm noises to be expected but this mixed with nature soumds was amazing.Campfires are allowed and fire pits provided' bring your own fuel. Not allowed in high winds. The shower is the best I've had in a very long time 'piping hot. Definitely recommended for peace and I would go bk again. I believe that there is a park about 1mins drive away but we stayed in site. There is also a swing and a slide for children.

Disliked: Nothing my WiFi was a bit hit n miss but not a problem for me
