Hardstanding touring pitch

  • Fully serviced pitches with access to fishing lakes
  • Around 30 minutes’ drive from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester
  • Café, wheelchair accessible facilities, parent and baby washroom
Would waking up and walking just a few feet for a spot of fishing be something of a holiday win for you? And how about finding that around 30 minutes by car from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester? At Makins Lakes, in the village of Bramcote and 10 minutes’ drive from the Warwickshire town of Nuneaton, your pitch won’t just be close to a peaceful peg, you’ll also have a long list of Heart of England holiday highlights close by. Of course, the lakes on site aren’t just for the enjoyment of anglers. Being by the water brings a peaceful feel to all the pitches. There are views over the Warwickshire countryside too, but this isn’t a middle-of-nowhere kind of place. Each pitch is hooked up with electric and water access points. The shower and toilet block have accessible areas for disabled guests and there’s also a family-friendly parent and baby washroom. There’s an on-site café and bait shop and if you can’t bear to leave the lakeside, they’ll even deliver food out to you so you need not stop fishing all day. When you’re ready to rest your rod for a bit, it’s a 25-minute drive to catch a bit of culture in Coventry (UK City of Culture 2021) or 40 minutes to Stratford-upon-Avon, the must-see town for all things Shakespeare.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Well laid out touring pitches with plenty of room, excellent shower and toilet facilities which were very clean! Lovely location surrounded by fishing lakes. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice clean and well kept site, with nearby towns approx 15 minute drive out.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: It was spacious pitches and flat land. Felt we had privacy

Disliked: It would be good to have a camping shop with essentials such as bread, milk and camping equipment like gas. Would also like to be able to have a fire in the evening if on the gravel. No wifi

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The toilets and showers were clean

Disliked: Very limited if you have dogs i was told I couldn't even walk around the lakes with my dog even on a lead, and the ehu point was very damaged and struggled to plug into it, I also didn't like the fact I couldn't play music at any time of the day but then some guy with a loud exhaust can go past me about 4 times in one night disturbing my sleep

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: As we are local to the area, we rang reception and asked if we could arrive a little early. The friendly member of staff was helpful and assured us all was ok.
When we arrived a quick check in was completed and we were able to choose our own pitch.
Hard standing with electric, each pitch has its own water and drainage. We chose pitch 1 which is closest to the fishing lakes. Lovely view and enjoyed watching the fisher folk going about their business.
We asked if we could stay a little later on the day of departure, no problem.
An early night was had in anticipation of a breakfast at the onsite cafe.
Lovely breakfast at a good price, cooked fresh for us by again friendly staff.
There is a little road noise but nothing overwhelming. It’s the price you pay for easy access.
No dogs around the lakes, which makes sense to us as it’s activity area. You wouldn’t walk your dog round Silverstone after the race. Plenty of room for walking them elsewhere.
Toilets and showers were good, elsan point and washing up facilities available, clean and well lit.
The luxury lodges onsite made us a little envious.
We enjoyed our stay and will return.

Disliked: Only staying one night.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Was peaceful area, and well spaced pitches. Well looked after pitches too. Showers were very spacious

Disliked: In the ladies, out of 5 cubicle toilets only 2 had tissue paper, even after the cleaner had left not 10 mins before I went in. Out of 5 sinks, 4 had taps that were working. Non of the 3 soap dispensers had soap in them. 1 was totally out of order by the look of it too, as it had no cover. The hand dryers hardly blew air, very poor flow of air. According to my husband it was very similar in the gents with the before mentioned issues.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Clean and tidy site, good showers and toilet block with heating, spacious pitch

Disliked: No shop that we know of, a map showing where we can walk the dog would of been nice, not much info given had to ask

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice clean and tidy pitches with water and electricity on each pitch. Bins, washing up facilities, and toilet/shower block close by. Toilets and shower were nice and clean, and the block was heated which was a welcome surprise after walking in from the cold outside! Easy access to the fishing lakes too.

Disliked: Soap dispensers in the ladies were either broken or empty.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely place, easy check in process, shower block clean and showers hot and powerful

Disliked: Anglers turning up 2 hours before their match started. Their car park is next to touring park and they’re very noisy and spoilt us watching the sunrise with a cup of tea.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Warm welcome, good access. Facilities clean , wc a& shower block the warmest been in! Huge shower cubicles Hard standing pitches were spacious and pretty flat.
Goats and chickens a cute feature well looked after
Fisherman’s paradise for sure

Disliked: Nowhere does it state it on the banks of the m69 noise was huge impact on our stay wish I’d done better research. Grass areas very boggy on camping area (expected round lakes) no open fires or fire pits yet group clearly sat round one and they also had cheek to snoop round our pitch and take items off our pitch . Not good camping code!
Dogs are allowed BUT we went for the walks and they’re not allowed around the lakes so very limiting to just the driveway and field
My bad: as there’s a photo of a play area thought our kids would have access to it but it’s infact part of a child day care facility on the site.
Personally don’t like to be washing pots up and having to smell and hear peoples toilet waste being emptied (there a wall to shield splatter) just felt wrong washing up area and toilet waste being emptied. Would we stay again, no but it’s not by any means awful just sadly not for us this time of year and motorway noise at5 am

Local attractions

If you’re in the mood for a quiet picnic or woodland stroll, Coombe Abbey Country Park (15 minutes’ drive) is a 500-acre parkland made for whiling away a day outdoors. There’s also a play area, zip lining and climbing forest if the family’s up for an active day. Or you could always try out the angling here too if your break really is all about fishing. Entertaining the kids shouldn’t be too tricky around these parts either. Immerse yourself fully in the medieval world of dungeons, knights and princesses, jousting and falconry with a visit to Warwick Castle (35 minutes). Or scream if you wanna go faster at Drayton Manor Theme Park, home to rollercoasters, Thomas Land and a 15-acre zoo. Animal antics of all kinds are also order of the day at Twycross Zoo (30 minutes).
