The camping field

  • Peaceful family-run park two miles from Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Shop, off-licence, free hot showers and spotless facilities
  • Regular bus service from right outside the site
Settle yourselves down here, Shakespeare fans: Dodwell Park is just two miles from Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s cottage and all the bardly attractions of Stratford-upon-Avon. There’s peace, there’s quiet, there’s a countryside setting – and if all that still isn’t enough for a final attempt to get the kids (and dog) reading sonnets, you can culture-ise them by taking them along to nearby Warwick Castle for all sorts of horrible history. Sorted. Dodwell Park is a small family-run site where the amenities are kept to spotless standards, with free hot showers, dishwashing facilities and hairdryers to keep the barnet looking tiptop. A shop and off-licence is on site, and armfuls of leaflets are at the information stand with info on Stratford-upon-Avon and other local tourist attractions. Nearby are Cotswold villages with Shakespearely thatched inns, walks and cruises along the River Avon and the hills of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Boating, fishing and old buildings are at Luddington village about three miles from Dodwell Park. Leaving the car behind to avoid hiking up car parking costs in Stratford? A regular bus service stops right outside the site.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: On arrival the male warden seemed quite rude, even heard him talking about a customer after they had left the office. He was quite grumpy and didn’t want to help. However the female warden was very pleasant and helpful. Toilets are very outdated and showers were very small. When we arrived 1 sink was out of order. There was a very unpleasant smell coming from another sink! Most pitches are on a slant. We struggled to get in and out of our van as we had to raise our van to level it. We won’t be coming back.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: It was clean, big pitches and great views. We stayed with our 2 girls and had our friends next door in their tent. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, shop is only open 8-9:30am so be-aware if you haven't got all your amenities, we drove to Aldi and Lidi to get our food & snacks. Site is very quiet so if your looking for peaceful, this is the place. Bus stop is right out side the site which takes you straight to Stratford Town Centre, bus is every our (download stagecoach app) it will tell you the times. Constant hot water at the Cleaning facilities and showers which is also a bonus!

Disliked: Only thing i have to say is there was no light in the ladies toilet/shower block (the men's light was working) So had to shower myself & my children in the dark as didn't realise there was no light and was nearing on 8pm when we went down, so take a torch at night when you need to use the toilets or shower.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: The location.

Disliked: Unfortunately both days I didn’t return to the site until it was dark. Both nights the lights wasn’t working in the showers. I did report this but unfortunately this did not get fixed. So I did not use the facilities that I paid for.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Great site, well laid out.
Good hot showers
Pitch good size. Water and grey waste well located.
Very friendly and helpful on reception.
Only 2 miles, 50 min walk along pavement to Stratford upon Avon. Also bus stop opposite park.
There is also a dog exercise area which was great. Would recommend and would stay again!

Disliked: No lights in ladies
Showers need a deep clean as scum along bottom of shower panels which could easily be cleaned

Local attractions

To Stratford-upon-Avon first: see what the big deal is by catching a Royal Shakespeare Company play before a trip around town to the Shakespeare attractions; buy a Shakespeare Five House Pass to see Hall's Croft, Mary Arden's Farm, Nash's House and New Place and Shakespeare's Grave alongside Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. Many companies offer cruises along the Avon, but to save pennies take a trip on the old chain ferry for 20p, or stay on land and take the mile and a quarter route along the Avon for views of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare’s burial place Holy Trinity Church and the Memorial Theatre Gardens. Scores of other walks can be had in the Cotswolds, the biggest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England, with miles’ worth of footpath and bridleways broken up by small villages and market towns. The Cotswold Way runs 102 miles south from Chipping Campden to Bath and passes many historical houses and churches. After Warwick Castle, families can have a day out at the Ragley Hall Estate to get lost in the 3D maze, or go to Kenilworth Castle with its kids' audio trail covering the history of the castle and the lovelorn Robert Dudley who built it in the 16th century to impress Queen Elizabeth I. Kids will probably also like the gizmos at Stratford’s MAD (Mechanical Art and Design) Museum, Hatton Farm Village at Warwick or driving you nuts around the world’s biggest collection of historic British cars at the Heritage Motor Centre, which has the Land Rover Experience, a nature path and a playground.
