  • Dog-friendly farm-style site on the edge of the Peak District
  • A 20-minute drive from Buxton and 25 minutes from Alton Towers
  • Walking distance from watersports and pubs; walking trails nearby
Pining to get away to the pretty Peak District? From Camping at The Hollies, a farm-style site on the edge of the national park, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward and get to walking or biking through valleys, woods and caverns… or mix it up with a meander in some of the park's characterful towns such as Buxton, 20 minutes’ drive away, and Bakewell, half an hour's drive away. The backdrop here is The Roaches – just one of the good spots for hiking in the area. There are more walks accessible right from the site or a short car ride away. While you’re exploring, you may want to pay a visit to Tittesworth Reservoir, just 15 minutes’ walk away down the road and a proper watersports haven. The reservoir also has a kids' playground. Pubs are also on hand to keep up the merry time, including a couple within walking distance. In Hartington, 20 minutes’ drive away, there are village shops, cafés and tea rooms for a coffee and a cake (or two, depending on how far you’ve walked). Leek (five minutes’ drive) or Rudyard (15 minutes) are other local spots with shops, restaurants and pubs. On site, a few sheep and chickens roam around. Plus, a resident pizza van called Pipers Pizzas sells delicious stonebaked pizzas (done in a woodfired oven and very much liked by many guests) every Friday and Saturday from 4pm and on bank holiday Sundays from 4pm. There are basic facilities – on-site toilets (proper ones, not portable-style) are provided, and there are four showers (bring coins for the meters if you want to use these). Firepits are available to hire, but they require a cash-only deposit, and you'll only be allowed to burn wood purchased on site. To make sure everyone gets a good night's sleep, quiet hours are set between 10pm and 7am.

What customers say

This is a spacious, laid-back campsite in a beautiful location with stunning views of The Roaches. Pitches are plentiful, and visitors appreciate the freedom to choose their own spot. Facilities are basic but generally clean and well-maintained. The on-site pizza van and option to hire fire pits are popular additions. The site is praised for its friendly staff and good value. Some minor issues include limited toilet and shower facilities during busy periods and occasional road noise.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Really nice location. The views are beautiful looking out to the roaches. There are walks straight from site, tho the cars can come pretty fast down the lane you aren't on it for long before coming to the footpath. Woodfired pizza served in the evening and breakfast in the morning. Would stay again

From the manager: Thanks so much for your kind words! 😊 We're really happy you enjoyed the beautiful views and nearby walks—it's great to hear you made the most of the pizza and breakfast too! You're right about the lane; while it's short, we always recommend care and appreciate you pointing it out for future guests. We'd love to welcome you back again soon!

Excellent site , with the most friendliest and hard working staff.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Clean toilets and washing up facilities. Showers were £1 for 5 minutes (could set temperature red hot which is really nice on a cold morning). We made use of the fire pit hire, just £20 refundable deposit then £12 for a net of logs which lasted us the whole night, fire lighters and sticks included too.
Location wise brilliant 10 minutes walk to tittesworth reservoir, which had a circular route all the way round 7.5km ish, had an ice cream shop there which was gorgeous!! Water activities on the reservoir too, booked a double kayak for 1 hour £20 lots of fun. Just a 5 minutes walk left out of the site is a lovely pub ‘Three Horseshoes’ we only had drinks but for food smelt and looked amazing.
Staff here are also so friendly !!

Disliked Only cold water at washing up area.

From the manager: Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for your fantastic 10/10 review! We're absolutely delighted to hear that you and your family had such a great stay with us.

It's lovely to know you appreciated the clean facilities and enjoyed the hot showers – there's nothing like a warm shower on a cool morning! We're also really glad the fire pit hire helped make your evening special, and that you got to explore the beautiful surroundings, especially Tittesworth Reservoir and the local pub.

Our team works hard to keep the site welcoming and well looked after, so your kind words about the staff mean a lot to us.

We’d love to welcome you back again soon – whether for more kayaking, ice cream, or just a relaxing break!

Best wishes. The Hollies 😊

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful location, we managed to get a great spot with a view of the roaches from our tent. Even though it was fairly busy everyone was respectful of the 10pm quiet. We loved the pizza van on Friday evening, delicious! The campsite owner came around and gave out fire pits and wood to those who wanted. We had a lovely walk at Luds church, which was about a 10 min drive from the campsite.

Disliked The location is lovely but not great for walking straight from the campsite with kids as it’s quite a fast road.

From the manager: Thank you so much for the wonderful 10/10 review! 😊 We're really glad you enjoyed the beautiful views, the peaceful atmosphere, and of course, the Friday night pizza van! It’s great to hear you made the most of your visit with a walk to Lud’s Church too.

We appreciate your feedback about walking routes with kids – safety is really important, and we’ll continue to look into ways to improve that experience. Hope to welcome you back again soon! 🙂

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely spot looking out at the Roaches, plenty of space, good idea having the pizza hut although we didn't use it.
Sinks were higher so no back breaking bending!
Showers were good , was good to have the dressing area ..although very hot in there while dressing
Close to local shops , chinese takeaway
Staff coming round with the wood were friendly and helpful

Disliked No hand towels in the toilets or hand dryers. Had to use loo roll
Loo rolls were always re stocked regularly
Yes hot water at the pot washing area would have been good but wasn't a problem using cold

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review! 😊 We're glad you enjoyed the spacious pitch, views of the Roaches, and found the facilities comfortable—especially the showers and sinks! Great to hear our team made a positive impression too.

Thanks also for the helpful feedback about the toilets and pot wash area. We’ll definitely take that on board as we look at ways to improve the site. Hope to see you again soon! 🙂

Would go again as near to lots of good walking Roaches just up the rd.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Nice open site with plenty of room to pitch.Fire pits and logs to burn readily available. There was a pizza van there for most of the weekend. The pizza's looked good.Hot showers available cost £1 for five minutes.Plenty of time for me maybe ladies will need 10 mins The Trout pub and Three horse shoe pubs are nearby both server. Very good food.
You are guaranteed to enjoy your stay here.

Disliked Only a few showers served the whole site so at busy times you will have to wait.Suggest going outside of the morn and evening rush hour

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Friendly staff.
Quiet after 10pm
Nice views.
Big pitches
Choose your own spot
Toilets clean and well stocked/ attended

Disliked Distance to water, bins and toilets from back field.
Large queues for toilets.
Unlit route to toilets after dark.
Poor phone signal

From the manager: Thanks so much for the lovely review! Great to hear you enjoyed the quiet evenings, big pitches, and friendly atmosphere — we really appreciate you pointing those out.

We hear you on the distance and queues from the back field — it’s something we’re keeping an eye on as the site gets busier. The phone signal can be patchy depending on provider, though for some that’s part of the charm!

Thanks again for the feedback — hope to see you again soon.

Best regards The Hollies 😊

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely site, lots of pitches, liked the pitch where you please and the owners come round at some point of your 1st night and check you in, very easy!

Toilets and showers clean at all times

Disliked Nothing of the owners fault but WASPS!!

Bring candles/incense to keep them away!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for the lovely review! We're really glad you enjoyed the relaxed pitch-where-you-please setup and found the check-in easy and facilities clean — we work hard to keep things that way.

Great tip about bringing candles or incense — for the pesky wasps...we'll be sure to pass that along to future guests as well.

We’d love to welcome you back again soon!

Best regards louise and all the team 🙂

Local attractions

In such a scenic setting, you may well spend a lot of your time outdoors … there’s a valley trail and Thor’s Cave in Manifold Valley (20 minutes’ drive) and cavern tours and woodland walks around Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes). Skip over the stepping stones at Park Dovedale & the White Peak (half an hour) or do the loop around Dovedale (half an hour), another top beauty spot. Rudyard Lake (20 minutes) is heavy on adventure too, with an activity centre, steam railway, cycle paths and boat trips. If you’re particularly daring, Madrenaline Activities (10 minutes) runs outdoor activities such as segways, axe throwing and archery. Alton Towers (25 minutes) has many more adrenaline thrills. Family-friendly attractions are all around, including Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and the ice cream farm at Blaze Farm & The Potty Sheep (20 minutes). If it’s a peaceful place you’re after, Bakewell (half an hour) and Matlock (45 minutes) both fit the bill. The former has Bakewell puddings and a medieval bridge and the latter is a historic spa town. Biddulph Grange Garden (20 minutes), a National Trust landscaped Victorian garden, is just as peaceful.
