Nice night to go fishing on the pond

  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adults-only and dog-friendly; canalside for dog walks
If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for a fee; a big sundeck overlooking the pond, and a fully licensed on-site café serving fresh local produce. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email. Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

Pool view non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Fantastic flat grass pitches located in a very quite location. Only 13 pitches and plenty of space. Lookover onto the fishing pond. Large clean and safe dog run.

Ablutions and shower facilities were really clean and well maintained.

We spent good Friday night here and was perfect.

Onsite Cafe open from 9 until 3pm daily and the smells were incredible. They also do a full Sunday roast

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Facilities clean at all times, friendly site manager, nice sunny site, close proximity to a lovely cafe and great location near the canal, useful microwave available for use with a modest charge in the kitchen/laundry room.

Disliked: There is a busy road near the site and you can hear road noise during the day and some at night.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: A very clean adult only site, with extremeley friendly and helpful staff.
There was a communal hut on the lakeside which was great for the last of the evening sun.
In the washroom there was a washing machine, tumble dryer and a microwave.
The staff had taken the trouble to put a whole list of nearby places, local food delivery companies and things to do as well as books, puzzles, games etc to borrow.
There was a lovely little cafe at the site entrance and the site was right by the canal which was a lovely 40 minute stroll into Whitchurch.
There are only a few touring pitches available as there are lots of seasonal caravans.

Disliked: We would probably have needed to take a taxi, if we'd stayed another day, to get into town as we are limited in how much walking we can do.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site. Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away. The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
