  • Shropshire countryside park with two fishing lakes
  • Views of the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales
  • Half an hour's drive from Ironbridge Gorge
Splendid Shrewsbury, historic home to medieval streets, over 660 listed buildings and many a festival – and half an hour's drive from the illustrious World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge. And splendid Wigmore Lakes, close to all this industrious activity but also a Shropshire countryside site with views of both the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales, to use as a base for peaceful retreats of an evening. Or just stay on site instead: Wigmore Lakes has two fishing lakes for guests for a small daily rate, to catch carp, tench, roach, bream and other silverfish (one of the lakes is predominantly filled with carp and the other has a complete mix and is often used for matches). Wigmore Lakes doesn't have a site shop, but a shop/post office is just outside, along with a fish and chip shop for takeaway and a café for breakfast and other meals. A modern toilet and shower block is available for guests' use. Wigmore Lakes does accept kids, but doesn't have any facilities for them such as a play area or games.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nice quiet and clean site and the warden Bob was happy to chat to you and let you know allthats going on. Didn't take the rods this time but looks like a great site of you like your fishing. Have a few games of pool in the on site lounge and loads of DVD's if you do need something to watch.

Disliked: Unfortunately the cafe at the top of the road has now closed down but the chippy is still good.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: What a beautiful tranquil place. Only ten pitch’s so small area for tourers but a few cabins and statics over by the other lake. Still hardly saw a soul. Gorgeous views from the van. Open fields and hills beyond with a kite or two flying by. Lots of rabbits and squirrels around the site. Beautiful lakes, water so green! Big pitches and nice and flat. No shop or reception but a lovely big heated room with a pool table and two sofas. Great area to take a bottle of wine up and have a few games of an evening. I beat hubby 😁. Only staff we saw was Bob who was a right character and we loved him. Lovely chap. Not much around the site so you need a car really but there is a sort of diner/shop a little walk away but we didn’t try it. Plenty of space to walk your pooches around the lakes in the morning and so pretty. You are allowed to fish as a guest too.
If you want chilled vibe. No hassle. Back to basics feel, this is your place. If you like a well organised site with staff and a shop and immaculate facilities this won’t be for you. We loved it.

Disliked: We were braced from the reviews about the facilities so weren’t shocked. And they really are not great. But on the positive the water was very hot and good strong jets. Just the facilities themselves really need updating and a good overhaul!
Toilets in with the showers which was just plain weird. 4 of them but three really as one had no lock in the door. Nowhere to put your stuff at all except the floor (which was covered in grass and muck from the drains which overflowed every time someone showered) so you had to place it on the loo seat. But two didn’t have loo seats! You starting to get a feel of it now 😆. But as I say. Lovely actual shower. Just sort the drains and put up some holders and give it a bit of an update and it’ll be grand.
One more point, google map your entrance first or it’s very easy to just sail by. The signage is not great at all.

Liked: Peaceful, picturesque site. Very hard to find via normal maps. Facilities are dated but clean and spacious. Management was very helpful to new inexperienced travellers, with the warden, Bob, being friendly and kind.

Disliked: Google maps sent us on a wild goose chase. We finally found the site after asking a few people.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Stunning place. Loved the tranquility of the site. Bob (the warden) was a really friendly guy. Always available if you needed anything. We didn’t meet Katie but the communications via email were spot on.
We got talking to a couple of people who have stayed at Wigmore Lakes for a number of years and not one person had a bad thing to say about anyone. I can understand why. It’s bliss.
Basic but clean facilities. Perfect for camping. Loved it!
We will definitely be revisiting.

Disliked: We didn’t dislike anything. It was great

Local attractions

Leave the car behind and take the bus just outside Wigmore Lakes for a history-hunting day in Shrewsbury, taking care to stroll down as many shuts (medieval streets) as possible. If you're around in August, the esteemed Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the biggest flora-based fests in England. Also have a wander around Welshpool (Wigmore Lakes is between it and Shrewsbury) and take a trip to Ironbridge for several award-winning museums based around the Industrial Revolution. For proper wanders, a network of footpaths is close to the site, including the Offa's Dyke Path, skirting by both Shrewsbury and Welshpool on its 177-mile run from Chepstow to Prestatyn.
