Firepits available for hire

  • Cosy family-run and dog-friendly site in the Cotswolds
  • A 15-minute drive from Blenheim Palace; 25 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold
  • Barbecues and firepits allowed; access to footpaths and bridleways
After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The site is large and laid out well with plenty of space per pitch. The facilities are also well distributed throughout the site with toilets, showers and washing up areas in multiple areas over the site.
Park was a great addition for the children who loved the climbing trees/rope and swing.
We were travelling as a group and were accommodated next to each other without hassle. The staff are on hand should you need them.
We sadly didn’t have time to use it but the cafe on site is also a convenient extra!

Disliked: Toilets did get a bit messy as only cleaned once per day and it was busy over the bank holiday weekend. But spotless the rest of the time and the showers were very clean!
Also the first door on the right of the block in the top field was sticking and a bit scary for kids who got stuck in the cubicle.

Camping pod (three person)

Liked: Cafe at the entrance
The pod itself was new, clean, and cozy
Reserved areas were safe for kids to play
Play area all made of wood and handmade
Facilities were always close

Disliked: There could be more showers
There could be more sinks
There could be more rubbish bins around the campsite - there wasn't even one close to the sinks, so people did not know what to do with the waste in the drains after washing dishes
There could be more entertainment in the play area focused on younger kids

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Joli camping très vert avec de larges espaces. Les sanitaires sont propres.

Disliked: Pas d'eau chaude pour faire la vaisselle....

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: nous avons deux éviers d'eau chaude en haut du camping et un dans la cuisine, puis deux à l'extérieur qui ne sont actuellement que des éviers d'eau froide.

We’re very glad you had a lovely stay. Thank you for your review

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Great site, well maintained, lovely clean loos and showers… spacious pitches. Great bonus was a cafe on site serving home made food. Sitting outside chatting to Jo and Chris while enjoying a beer or cider in the sunshine … a great way to spend an evening

Stable Barn shepherd's hut

Liked: Everything a great campsite. Lovely accomodation perfectly clean and comfortable. Perfect onsite facilities with the wonderful Cauldron Cafe and bar run by the lovely Jo. Was welcomed by Daniel and everyone like an old friend as I had stayed last year. The site had been refreshed for the season and you could tell.
Will definitely be visiting again as my dog Dexter didn't want to come home. Fantastic guys thanks A******

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked: Nice little site and everything is well spread out, the pitches are a really good size as well for people like us with big tents.
Staff appeared to be very friendly based on my little contact with them.

Disliked: Toliets felt like they needed a little more attention during the weekend I was there. Locks broken on some doors, constantly water on the floor of the small toilet block as if there was some kind of leak and toliet paper often jammed in the holder so you couldn't get it out.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked: The toilets and shower block was very clean, small kitchen available with microwave, fridge, hot water and sink all nice and clean. There was a bar and food available at times although I personally did not use so can't comment.

I had a non electric pitch but there are electric pitches available for Tent, MoHo & caravans on grass and hard standing. Welcoming staff on arrival.

Disliked: Can be some road traffic noise at times if camping in the bottom tent pitches, ear plugs required if a light sleeper.

Local attractions

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
