Firepits available for hire

  • Cosy family-run and dog-friendly site in the Cotswolds
  • A 15-minute drive from Blenheim Palace; 25 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold
  • Barbecues and firepits allowed; access to footpaths and bridleways
After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked: Kitchen facilities were very good. Clean toilets and showers. Plenty of hot water. Clean and tidy site. Facilities on site including the cafe/bar.

Disliked: Not being allowed to bring your own firewood and charging £7 for a shopping basket of wood. Also narrow pitches so we had to park across the front of our tent blocking the view of the site. Having to bring your own loo roll although accept it said that on the instructions so we came prepared.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: They kindly put us next to our son in a tent , we were in a camper they were grass pitches and lovely setting , the children loved the park to play in , ball games were allowed . Facilities were kept clean .

Disliked: They had allowed some pitches to have late check out so when we got there at just before 12 and also quite a lot of others arrived early too it was a bit chaotic and everyone was asked to go back out ! The late departures couldn’t get out ! We were another 20mins before given our pitches .

From the manager: Thanks for your review,

Unfortunately as much as we try and have strict checkin and checkout times , invariably some customers don’t follow the advice and that’s when we run into issues.

The weekend you arrived nobody was authorised a late check out , they were just later leaving that the 11 o’clock we advise , coupled with the 6 or so early arrivals we had gridlock with people trying to get in and customers trying to get out.

When we are given plenty of notice we can accommodate late check outs and early check ins, it does take some preparation to ensure customers aren’t battling for the same pitch,

Unfortunately on this day we had 3 late check outs and 6 early check ins where we weren’t informed of the customers plans. Couple this with the short 1 hour window we have to litter pick the pitches, clean them , mow the lawn and clean down the facilities it inevitably delayed everyone’s check in.

Liked: Lovely camp site with friendly helpful staff. Toilet blocks were always lovely and clean. Very nice quiet get away. Although the on site shop wasn’t up and running yet, it was a short drive to the local shops. Would definitely stay again.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely everything. I've stayed in many campsites but this is definitely in the top 3. I was greeted on arrival by a very friendly warden the promptly directed me to my pitch which was the best pitch on the site! The warden was available if you needed him and would occasionally see him but he was very unobtrusive, just cracking on with jobs on site. The toilets and showers were spotless at any time of day, obviously we'll looked after. The little cafe is a great addition and even opened up so I could get a morning coffee. The lady in the cafe is super friendly and makes her own scented oils, as well as other goodies.
If you are a cyclist then this is a great place to complete the cotswold line a beautiful route with the campsite in the middle! Making it easy to go in either direction. All in all very satisfied. Thank you.

Liked: Camping location was great. The porches were also very spacey.

Disliked: Only minor thing was there was only 1 sink so ended up waiting to wash up a lot

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Sophie

The website does have a map in gallery, this shows you where all the washing up sinks are. Usually we have a large map on the outside of our office too, but we’re still awaiting for its arrival. We have one hot water washing up sink in the kitchen, two washing up sinks by the laundrette and two washing up sinks by the top field shower blocks.

We’re glad you had a great stay.

Local attractions

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
