  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: This is a beautifully calm and simple site. Friendly staff, basic but sufficient toilet and shower facilities. A small shop and hot food served at busier times. Plus, there are goats and an aviary. Good play park and goal posts for the kids.
Great to be able to have the freedom to pitch where you choose if non electric.

Disliked: It’s worth being aware that the shop and hot food is open when they choose. We arrived in bank holiday Monday and had no access to the shop and no hot food because they deemed it not busy enough. Only a problem because we were relying on it and because the kids desperately wanted goat food from the shop.
We barely saw any staff for the duration of our 24 hours there.

10-amp electric grass pitch

Liked: We had a wonderful overnight stay here. Booked very last minute as the weather looked good! Level campervan pitch with 10amp EHU. Toilets clean, useful shop, short walk into the village, friendly pub. Perfect!
As we were getting ready to leave, our pop top seized. Jake was incredibly helpful and we managed to find a way to get it down! Thankyou so much!!

Disliked: Nothing!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: This site is a little gem. We stayed with friends and managed to pitch together. There was plenty of space. Loved the open fire pit of an evening. Facilities such as bar/shop/seating area/kitchen food/ goats all amazing. Shop was not overly priced either. Great location, 10 minute walk to a beautiful village with 2 pubs. Toilets in lower field very basic but functional, Toilets near the reception were better.
Would definitely return, still can't believe it was only £20 a night for what was on offer.

Disliked: Just being picky, in the lower field washing up facilities were difficult to use due to location of the hot tap, but tbh, that's a miner issue as the site is seriously nice.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
