Paddock pitches

  • Peaceful dog-friendly paddock pitches in the Oxfordshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Blenheim Palace and 40 minutes from Oxford
  • Walk 20 minutes to the country pub in Barford St Michael village
Bear down on these simply gorgeous and peaceful paddock pitches in the Oxfordshire countryside. The level grass field at Spring Hill Farm makes pitching up plain sailing. Once you’re all settled in at this pop-up place, seize the day by tracking down the palaces, castles and country houses within driving distance of the site, or just slide into a cosy spot in the country pub in the village of Barford St Michael, 20 minutes’ walk away. It may be peaceful out in the Oxford countryside, but the site still has good access to major routes. If you want to list out a bunch of activities for your itinerary, you might want to begin with the 17th-century Blenheim Palace (20 minutes’ drive), the moated Broughton Castle (15 minutes) or Oxford’s spires (40 minutes) and sights, which include everything from museums and a castle to a distillery and playhouse. Just short of two acres in size, the quiet grass field has access to running water, washing-up facilities and flushing toilets. So, back to basics, you go. Aside from the local village pub, there are many more pubs, restaurants and cafes within five to 10 minutes’ drive of the site when you want a hot brew or something tasty to eat. There’s no doubt that you’ll need the energy, considering that nearby family-friendly attractions include Fairytale Farm (10 minutes), The Lido, Chipping Norton (15 minutes) and the Banbury Open Air Pool (20 minutes). Any Shakespeare fans are bound to get in a significant number of steps in Stratford-upon-Avon (45 minutes) too, checking out the theatres and his birthplace.

Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay at Spring Hill farm. It is a small camping field and attracted a range of different campers.

The toilet and shower block were exceptionally clean for this type of set up and we’re always free of grass and mud.

We really liked the thoughtfulness of there being a freezer to re-freeze cooling blocks and the availability of fire wood for campfires.

It is a very relaxed side and we were so appreciative of the level ground, which is not always a given when camping.

Disliked: The only area that could have been improved is perhaps the washing up area. There was no hot water and only one basin so there were certain “peak times” when there was a bit of wait to use them.

Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The site is obviously well-cared for and maintained, with well thought out facilities. Very clean toilets and showers, plenty of hot water. Easy to book and hire a fire pit (£5) and you can buy fire wood if needed. Nice flat paddock to pitch up in, lots of space between pitches and on site for kids to run around. Washing up sink is outside but adequate and well organised recycling/ash disposal bins. Peaceful location, quiet at night, no rowdy neighbours and the other campers were respectful. It was so nice to hear the owls at night, and wake up to feel the fresh air in the morning. Lots of wildflowers and hedgerows around the site, great for wildlife.
Wished we had stayed for longer.
Our first stay here and we want to return!

Disliked: Nothing!

Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We've just returned from a brilliant stay at Springhill Farm and could not recommend it enough. We lucked out on the weather and quickly discovered that we had the entire place to ourselves for our 4 day stay (2 very excited sporty children ready to utilise the field for rugby games and badminton maatches). The facilities were spot on - excellent showers, and clean toilets!
The area is quiet and close to many fun things to do!
We will definitely be returning!

Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely little campsite in an idyllic location for travelling to local towns and for scenic walks.
The owner came to ensure everything was alright each evening which was nice. We were also sent a welcome pack with information on local amenities prior to arriving.
The field is well kept and has washing facilities for your pots and pans etc.
You can hire a fire pit and wood here too which is a nice touch.
Overall, for the cost, this is a well worth campsite in a lovely location.

Disliked: Both the male and the female bathrooms have two toilets and two shower rooms each which may get a bit busy when the campsite is busier, but they were kept very clean and were stocked up with the necessary.

Liked: Lovely big field in a wonderfully peaceful location with freedom to pitch where you wanted. Level pitches with just the right density of soil for tent pegs. Immaculate toilets and showers. Friendly owners who were there if you needed them. Really just a lovely site.

Disliked: Nothing. This campsite is up there as one of the best.
