The pitches

  • CAMC-only touring site on a working Lincolnshire farm with wolds views
  • Dambusters Memorial 20 minutes’ drive; Skegness half an hour
  • Well-kept pitches and access to The Viking Way; pub 20 minutes’ walk
Surrounded by stunning views of the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, The Meadow Certificated Location is reserved for members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club aged over 18. A couple of minutes’ drive from the small village of Belchford, the site is set in a spacious meadow on a working farm, well back from a quiet lane so there’s no traffic noise at all – here you can get back to nature to enjoy the tweeting and chirpings of the birds. Basic facilities – spotless water points, refuse bins and toilet disposal – are thoughtfully tucked into a corner of the well-maintained field, which is kept closely mown and surrounded by hawthorn hedges; in spring wild flowers blossom too. Dogs are welcome to accompany you, and the pitches are close to public footpaths including the long-distance Viking Way. Not keen on self-catering? There’s a superb pub just 20 minutes’ walk away in Belchford – it comes highly recommended by the site owners – and there are more eateries in Horncastle (10 minutes’ drive), which also has a couple of big supermarkets for major supply replenishment.

Local attractions

At Woodhall Spa (20 minutes’ drive) kids can watch a film at the retro Kinema in the Woods while fans of military history make a beeline for the Dambusters Memorial. Other sites of interest include Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre (25 minutes), which has displays on the Women’s Land Army, the Home Guard and the Cold War, and Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (20 minutes), paying homage to the 55,000 men who died in Bomber Command during World War II. If you’re intent on browsing for (hopefully) priceless treasures, Horncastle (10 minutes) is chock-full of antique shops in which to find that elusive bargain. The Georgian market town of Louth (15 minutes) also has more than its fair share of indie shops, and lovely Lincoln (35 minutes) plays host to a soaring Gothic-style cathedral as well as a Norman-era castle housing a copy of the Magna Carta. When a day at the seaside calls, Skegness (half an hour) has a family-friendly beach backed by amusements, and kids will love seeing the cute seals and penguins at Natureland Seal Sanctuary (35 minutes). Further south along the coast you can explore other-worldly dune landscapes at Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve (40 minutes).
