  • Dog-friendly site near Spalding and 20 minutes' drive from Wisbech
  • Outdoor playground; big screens showing major live sports
  • Heated pool and large patio
Hurrah, The Rose and Crown in Holbeach Hurn, near Spalding, is stunning pub site with a village bar surrounded by the Lincolnshire Fens. Families, groups, solo travellers, bikers and dogs are all welcome at this friendly Lincolnshire site. And as the Rose and Crown is one of the last independent breweries in the region, you'll be fairly certain of getting a decent pint too… The pub has all sorts of touches you'll likely like to see in an inn: there's a main lounge and a beer garden with covered seating along with more modern updates like big screens showing Sky and BT Sports. There is also a heated outdoor pool and an outdoor kids' playground. The Rose and Crown is run by Dougie, who wants his guests to have as enjoyable a stay as possible: he's always working on upgrades to the pub and campsite so there's often something new to discover on a stay here… Wifi can be picked up in the pub only (not across the entire campsite), but it can be a bit poor/slow at times because of the rural setting. A supermarket is five minutes' drive away for supplies.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Not too busy, good atmosphere in the pub and the Elton tribute was an added bonus. Mark dressed as the Easter bunny was brilliant and he was a good laugh.

Disliked: Electric supply was shocking we ended up boiling water in a pan for drinks as the kettle just tripped out even with everything else turned off. Fuses definitely not big enough for that amount of tourers and campers so this spoilt things. Could do with better signage on arrival but it was manic with people not knowing where they need to be. It is mentioned at the bottom on the booking details, maybe put it at the top.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The pitches were well maintained, the toilets and showers were very clean .
And dougie ( the owner I think ) couldn’t help us enough as first time tourers with help and guidance .
The bar was a lot of fun in the evening food was good and well priced

Disliked: Not a lot really, a little untidy in places but presumably that’s under construction for new pitches or amenities

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: We camped here in march, was quiet and clean with friendly guests. Nice pub also.

We pitched up and was lucky enough to have gotten wifi in the spot we had picked which made it much better for us. Was a nice place and would go again.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (no awning)

Liked: Nothing.

Disliked: Hard standing pitches not wide enough and not level. Stepped out of our motorhome onto grass/ mud. Run out of fish & chips at 6pm on Friday evening when earlier they said they had plenty. Toilet block a disgrace, needs a good deep clean. Very disappointing site, will not be back.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (no awning)

Liked: Good facilities and bar on site is welcoming. Site feels secure and pitches are a good size. Site was very quiet through the night, and we heard no noise from the bar (despite there being a couple of birthday parties on the same night)

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Decent toilet block. Friendly welcome and staff.
Plenty of family entertainment in holidays if that's your thing.

Disliked: Showers are in need of a complete revamp, I was out of there as quickly as possible. 20p per minute & they take a minute to warm up.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: 3rd stay here in about 6 years. Both returning stays we can see the amount of effort they have put in to improve the campsite. 6 years back the outdoor swimming pool was un heated, now it’s heated and has a glass enclosure. This certainly keeps the wind out. We were pitched on a new hard standing pitch. Shower block/toilets very clean. There’s also a huge outdoor TV screen, which was showing football. Small park great for younger children. The hole campsite is well kept. Great food in the onsite pub. All staff really helpful and friendly.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Overall the site was lovely, food in the pub was nice and the pool and park were fab for the younger kids. We were pitched quite close to facilities and a nice large pitch for our big tent. Had a soul and Motown band and singer on and she was fantastic!

Disliked: The toilets could have been cleaner, which I know is difficult at times when busy.

Route directions

If you are following a satnav, it may well take you down Low Road; ignore this and carry on along Marsh Road, where you will see the Rose and Crown pub (bright yellow) on your right. Check in here, then drive for another 30 yards to reach the site entrance, again on the right. Please don't drive down Low Road as this is only a small lane which tourers and motorhomes find it hard to come down.

Local attractions

You'll find a fair bit to do within a reasonable drive of the Rose and Crown, like Wisbech and its Elgoods Brewery, gardens and maze 20 minutes away, and royal days out at Sandringham within 35. Both Hunstanton and Skegness are within about 45 minutes' drive. Closer to home are two golf courses and Spalding's Springfields Outlet Shopping & Festival Gardens, which also has a tourist point detailing local attractions. Spend a day around the Wash too for birdwatching at Frieston, Gibraltar Point and RSPB Snettingsham and a look at the RAF bombing range where visitors are welcome to watch the aircraft. Historians have the National Trust's Peckover House or the Octavia Hill Birth Place Museum, both in Wisbech, to wander around, and if you have kids along on your hol, they'll probably fancy wanders around Fun Farm, Alley Katz Bowling or the Butterfly Wildlife Park.
