  • Next to the National Cycle Network Route 1
  • Communal lounge with piano, sofas, pool table, kettle and fridges
A warm welcome is very much assured at Laurel Park Campsite in south Lincolnshire, a lovely little site that's secluded and sheltered on a quiet country lane and surrounded by miles of countryside, fields and the National Cycle Network Route 1. It's also south of the Wash Nature Reserve, a wildlife haven with miles of coastal walks and many available boat trips to see seals and nesting birds. Settle down here for a highly quiet and unwinding stay – seriously, this is a most serene site… Facilities include a comfy communal lounge with sofas, a piano, pool table, board games, table tennis, dens, a toddlers' play area, a book lending library and a kettle, fridges and microwave, as well as a games field. The site shop is well stocked with food and camping essentials, gift and thrift items and affordable ice creams. Also on site is a herd of adorable, friendly guinea pigs for guests to meet, help feed and pet. Amenities at Laurel Park include toilets and free electric showers, two chemical disposal points, a washing-up area with free hot water, laundry facilities, Calor gas sales, ice pack freezing and recycling facilities. Pick up supplies at the market town of Long Sutton five minutes' drive away, which has shops, pubs, banks, takeaways (some of which will deliver to the site) and a market on Fridays; more supplies and shops, including big supermarkets, are in Holbeach around five miles away.

Laurel Park is highly recommended by visitors for its friendly, attentive owners and excellent facilities. Guests enjoyed the clean environment, spacious pitches, and the opportunity to interact with the animals, particularly the twice-daily feeding sessions. Electric optional grass pitch

Liked well set campsite and great pitch for family stay and feel peaceful.

Disliked toilet & utilities set in front and our tents at the back, so need 2 mins walk every time.
also a road at the back pitch and very noisy at night during sleep.

Safari tent

Liked The area was really nice and quit (expect for the many pigeons present). We arrived before check-in time and there was no issue at all.

Disliked I expected the glamping experience to be a bit more glampy. For example we needed to rent a fire pit. You would expect this would be included. We were lucky to be alone on the campground, because when it’s full there are for sure not enough showers or toilets. Also there was an electrical power cut and we were not able to use the showers for a while. You would expect a back-up. We also would expect table attached to the tent was clean and dirt would be removed under the table. Ten galmoung tent itself was full of mold (outside). I’m sure with proper maintenance this could be avoided.

From the manager: Hi Evelien, we are sorry that you felt the need to write such a damning review. It is a shame that your expectations were not met. We pride ourselves on the 9.9 review status we had (before your score reduced this) - my wife and I work very hard to achieve and maintain this. Our efforts are hugely appreciated by the vast majority of our guests, but we are sorry this was not the case for you.

But we take each of your points into account:

Fire-pits are not included in the low cost of £65 per night, as this is already incredibly good value for a glamping tent. Fire pits are only £6 per night to rent - very cheap by comparison to others. Many sites don't even allow fire pits now-a-days.

Your presumption that there are not enough showers or toilets is incorrect. We have significantly more facilities than UK campsite licensing stipulates and rarely have any queuing even when we are full. There are always peak times when things get busier, but unless we had 50 or 60 toilets onsite (totally unrealistic for a 20-pitch campsite), we could never guarantee empty facilities all the time. And for clarity, at no stage were you alone on the campsite - there were a number of other pitches staying at the same time as you. Perhaps you were simply unaware of them as the facilities were so ample! In my opinion reviews should be about your actual experience rather than your presumptions.

The power-cut we were unfortunate enough to experience whilst you were here, happened to hundreds of properties over a wide area - an issue with the National Grid, not our facilities. This is not something we have any 'power' over and fortunately only happens very occasionally. Your suggestion that we should have a backup generator is unfair and unrealistic; A system that could handle a 20-pitch site would cost tens of thousands of pounds, and would address a power-supply problem that occurs less than once a year, on average. Realistically, our only option is to ride out any 'acts of god' such as these and hope that our campers are patient and understanding about such incidences being completely outside of our control. It is a shame you have used this incident to mark our service levels down - especially after appearing so kind about it when we explained it to you on-site.

The "table attached to the tent" is an outside picnic table, which gathers natural dirt from the environment in the same way as all outdoor picnic tables in public spaces, parks, etc. We have never had a guest raise this as an issue before, but we will check this more often.

Unfortunately there is some spotting on the tent. This is frustrating for us as the tent is less than 18 months old and the spotting only occurred during this season - which makes it impossible to address until the end of the season when we can take it down. It is maintained in the same way all our previous tents have been maintained and this has never happened before. We will not be using this tent supplier again and will be replacing the tents with new ones at the end of the season.

Railway Wagon 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked Travelled recently with my children and loved our stay. Facilities were very clean and didn't have any waits to use anything. The site is very well laid out and feels very calm and quiet despite having many campers.
There were numerous bin and water refilling sites across the campsite so never far to walk.

There are thoughtful gestures towards young kids including the little park area and the guinea pig feeding. The kids loved spotting the fairy doors dotted about.
The wagon itself was lovely and clean. The area outside was well maintained. There was a fridge and kettle with utensils and crockery/pans to use. Worktop stove and firepit included also. There is an eco toilet next to the wagon which was handy with young kids in the night. It was also clean and well maintained.

Andy and Emma were present on site and available to answer any questions. They were very welcoming and were happy to give suggestions on where to go. Unfortunately there was a national grid power outage but they kept campers updated, it didn't effect our stay.

There is a small shop that sells some items you might need which was lucky as I forgot the gas cannister and logs. It does not sell fresh produce so bring this with you.

Overall, we had a lovely trip and my children had a great time.

Liked A great little campsite. Facilities were clean and showers warm. Family washroom made showering the little ones easy. Nice little playground and tree dens. We loved the guinea pig feeding and played pool and table tennis. Owners very friendly and helpful. Also handy to have a kettle, fridges and microwave available.

Disliked There's not loads to do in the local area, but that just means you can spend more time at the site!

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked It's everything you could want out of a campsite. We where met on arrival by Emma, one of the owners for a breif overveiw of the site and were things are. Both emma and Andy where visable around site and on hand should they be needed.

The site is very well kept and the Toilets and showers where very clean. There's a little shop, and some communal areas too - With free to use kettle, microwave, books, pool table and other bits that might be useful. Emma did guinea pig feeding with the kids in the morning which was nice.

Pitches are of a good size and level across the whole site from what I could see. Highly recommend and I would definitely return if I'm holidaying in the area again.

Local attractions

The Wash has the biggest nature reserve in England, made up of sand and mud landscapes, salt marshes, waters and sandbank islands visible at low tide. It's probably best known for its seals and has the biggest single colony of common seals in Europe at Seal Island; visit in June or July to see the new pups. Market town Spalding is a good day out, particularly at its Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre, as is a day among the medieval architecture and many museums of historic King's Lynn. Wisbech, its brewery, gardens and maze is about 20 minutes' drive away, and Hunstanton and Skegness are less than an hour away. Other beaches are well within reach with less than a 45-minute drive. Many visitors to this part of the country also go to the royal estate of Sandringham to see the house, museum, gardens and the parish church of St Mary Magdalene.
