  • Peaceful Lincolnshire Wolds park less than a mile from Market Rasen
  • On the Lindsey Trail for cycling, walking and riding
  • Dog-friendly site with launderette and centrally heated bathroom block
If we were fortunate enough to possess our own nag, we'd surely be cantering forth to this campsite on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds as soon as ever we could. For Walesby Woodlands Caravan Park, run by Paul and Julia in a peaceful woodland setting, is bang on the Lindsey Trail, yielding miles upon miles of trotting (and ambling, and cycling) opportunities through the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walesby is a quiet park, used as a base by clever campers who want to explore the attractions and villages of the Wolds or delve into local countryside pursuits like fishing, golf and wildlife watching. It's less than a mile from Market Rasen for traditional shops, a farm shop, bakery, butchers, supermarket, pubs, fishing, golf and the Market Rasen Racecourse. The site is also within driving distance of Skegness and the Lincolnshire coast. The pitch price includes free hot water for the centrally heated shower and loo block. Walesby Woodlands also has a launderette, Calor gas for sale and an automatic security barrier for added safety. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Please note that the owners are keen not to disturb resident wildlife so they keep light levels low by night. The toilet block is well-lit but it's a clever idea to pack a torch to find your way there.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The location of the campsite is great, very quiet but easily accessible and totally surrounded by woods with amazing trails throughout.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Site beautifully tidy and exceptionally clean toilet/shower block that was always heated.
Picnic benches near reception set out beautifully.
Toilets always well stocked and always plenty of hot water.
Washing up/veg prep area with plenty of hot water and plenty of room.
Plenty of interesting places accessible on foot by trails through the woods, quiet country lanes or a short drive depending on your preference .
Loved that this dog friendly campsite had a huge field with gateway through that you could take your dog to and let them off lead for a good run around.
WiFi and electric hook up availability was great.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: We loved the setting of this campsite. Gorgeously situated nestled in woodlands it was brilliant for walks and cycling. There are miles of walks and trails literally from the campsite. We especially loved that you could walk to a lovely farm shop within ten minutes on a flat trail through the woods. The farm shop has a cafe that sells lovely food too. The wardens were friendly and the pitches were generously sized too. There are a lot of seasonal campers on site but we found them all really welcoming.

Disliked: The showers are those awful push button showers which literally only last for five seconds unless you try to hold them in whilst showering. Not the most convenient but they were hot and clean so can’t really complain.

Local attractions

For day trips, Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes on the Lincolnshire coast can be reached in about an hour in the car and lovely Lincoln is within about 40 minutes' drive. If you prefer to stick closer to home on your own feet/wheels, Walesby Woodlands is on both the 75 miles of the Lindsey Trail and the National Cycle Trail One. The Viking Way, from the Humber Bridge in north Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland, also passes near the park, as does the 78-mile circular Lincolnshire Wolds Way (handily broken into daily sections of about six hours each). Lincolnshire is pretty nifty for market towns and shopping, like at Louth, Horncastle and Woodhall Spa, all well within an hour's drive; be sure and wheel back many samples from Louth's award-winning The Cheese Shop. At Woodhall Spa, have an old-fashioned evening out at Kinema in the Woods, entertaining those around the area since 1922 and with its own 18th-century organ – and organist.
