  • Remote and rural site in the Lincolnshire countryside
  • Home to many rescue animals including hens, pigs, geese and ducks
  • Well-stocked fishing lake
What a lush site this is for gainful countryside holidays in the Lincolnshire countryside, whiling days away fishing, woodland walking and just lazing by the lakeside with open book or one's very own thoughts. There are animals too… Small and family-run Sunflower Park near Gainsborough has taken in quite a few rescue animals in their time (they're a friendly and welcoming lot here), so on site you'll meet the three family pets as well as some alpacas, several ex-battery hens and their strutting cockerel. Also adopted are a family of geese, ducks, Kunekune pigs and a couple of Gloucester old spots: do make sure to say hi to all. As you might guess, this is a relaxed and amiable site, set remotely and rurally on a five-acre plot that includes paddocks, a playground, open pastureland, a private woodland walk and a well-stocked fishing lake exclusively for guests' use. You might reckon the park's remote rural setting makes it a wildlife haven too, and you'd reckon right: its boundaries run directly into Laughton Forest's Tuetoes Wood, a Forestry Commission nature haven for walking and cycling among the trees, and home to wildlife like deer, foxes, owls, rabbits, jays, pheasants, cuckoos, woodpeckers – all within viewable and hearing distance from your pitch. Sunflower Park has toilets, showers, a drying room, a launderette and ice pack freezing. Firepits are available for hire for the whole of guests' stays and arrive full and ready to light. Please note that due to being in a forest location and on sandy ground, you will most likely come across spiders, ants, lizards, grass snakes, beetles etc. Please only book if you are comfortable with the fact that there will be wildlife around you.

Liked: We came for our dogs 1st birthday and had the most wonderful weekend with our 3 year old son! Great site, lots of very friendly animals, fun park and cool cafe/bar area. Surrounded by forest so can walk for miles, the dog was in her element. Cannot wait to return! Thanks for having us x

Liked: We loved everything about our stay at Sunflower park. It was our first time camping as a family and we were worried that the kids would get bored but the park, den building and animals kept them entertained for the whole trip. The site is clean and well looked after. There’s a sense that the owners really care about the site and all the staff we met were incredibly friendly and helpful. The toilets, showers and pot wash areas are well looked after. A great experience all round and we will definitely be visiting again!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Great site, lovely friendly staff who make you feel very welcome. Clean facilities and the animals were a lovely addition. Loved the secure dog field for my puppy who hasn’t learnt recall very well yet. Everyone we spoke to were returning from previous visits and I can see why.

Disliked: The sand at the pitches, more so at pitches 1&2 was a bit much. It was all in our tent and we can’t get it out of the carpet which is now stained. I think these pitches would be better for caravaners or motor homes as they are easier to clean up. Next time we come, which we will, i’ll just request a different pitch. Other than that, absolutely no complaints about or stay

From the manager: Thankyou and fair point.
The sandy ground is great for drainage but useless as growing grass on to repair pitches.
Doesn't help that so many parents allow kids to dig in sandy pitches

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The photos do not capture how great this is, especially through an 8 year olds eyes.

There are tons of animals to experience up close, the staff are super friendly - we got to hold the ferrets, and another girl was excitedly telling us about turtles and other animals that they had interacted with.

The kids play park is pretty decent, with tampolines and climbing frames.

We got bacon, sausage and egg baps from the on site bar, had drinks with the owners in the evening, and watched geese and ducks strolling around outside the van door.

You can buy feed for £1, hire wood burners, and they have an on-site shop. There are forest walks literally from the edge of the site. Our van wifi signal was weak but workable; they have starlink wifi available to purchase if you need more connectivity.

It is definitely a passion project for the owners and staff!

They also have a festival planned for later in the year which has got our attention for another booking!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: This was our 3rd time at this lovely site. It is just perfect for camping with kids, with all the animals and the park. The staff are friendly and helpful too. The birds are noisy at night but that’s just nature, it’s their home - take some earplugs and it will be fine! We loved having the microwave, , kettle and washing machine available too.
We will be back!

Local attractions

Walkers, hikers, cyclists, energetic runners and nature spotters have Tuetoes Wood right beside Sunflower Park, the Forestry Commission-managed and publicly accessible part of vast Laughton Forest. If you're an avid animal fan, take time to get to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park just outside Doncaster, home to a menagerie of over 300 from around the world, and to The Deep at Hull, one of the biggest aquariums in the UK and a habitat for over 3000 marine critters. Going south, history buffs can get to Lincoln for eleventh century Lincoln Cathedral, the third biggest in Britain after St Paul's in London and York Minster. Lincoln Castle is also well worth a look, to gaze geekily upon one of the four original remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
