  • Peaceful park five miles from Skegness
  • Next to Burgh le Marsh at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Well-stocked fishing lake on site
It’s not all about the seaside at Lincolnshire’s Skegness… Although the sand there is indeed fine, so also is the peaceful and remote location of Jockhedge Touring Park, on 25 acres of greenery five miles from Skeggy and next to the ancient village of Burgh le Marsh at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Since Jockhedge opened for its first season in 2014 it has assembled accolades for its spick and span facilities including its modern, bright luxury shower and loo block with underfloor heating, hairdryers, hand dryers, shaver points and separate male and female showers (the staff can open a family bathroom for you if you’re on site with the kids). Pitches are equally well-maintained and come with electric hook-up, water and foul/grey water drainage on each. Supplies and food are well sorted nearby: a café, mini supermarket and petrol station are within five minutes’ walk, and Burgh le Marsh has award-winning restaurant The Windmill, plenty of food pubs and several shops including the highly recommended Holmes butchers. Just outside the village, the farm shop at Lyndhurst Garden Centre sells locally sourced fruit and veg. Jockhedge also has a well-stocked fishing lake, and an impressive looking adventure playground for mini explorers complete with swings, seesaw and a most enticing-looking wooden playhouse: do see if Dad can squeeze in there too.

Liked: The contact from the friendly staff. They rang us a few times that week and were really nice and had great communication.
Tree swing for the children in the trees was a lovely touch. They had so much fun on this. Also the place was lovely for a visit in the spring time with all of the daffodils. We had a beautiful view from every single window. The grounds were kept up to really well and really well maintained. Very quiet site . The toilets were pristine and modern. There were many ducks that were so friendly and came onto the pitches which was a beautiful touch.
Also really close to Skegness and Ingoldmells for activities.

Disliked: The children’s park was in bad condition. There was excessive bird and duck poo all down the slides so they were in unusable condition. Some of swings were broken and unsafe to use.
We were close to the open lake - which was stunning - but for us was an opportunity of danger with a small child so would recommend this site to families with older children rather than little ones ☺️

Liked: A perfect stay at a perfect site.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome from Liam and Jill. They guided us to our pitch and took the time to explain where all the essential facilities, showers, toilets, and more were.

The toilet and shower blocks were not only spotlessly clean but also lovely and warm, a real treat for a January stay. At night, the peaceful surroundings were only interrupted by the hoots of nearby owls ❤️

A lovely 10-minute walk took us into the local village Burgh le Marsh, where we found handy shops and a couple of lovely pubs, perfect for a relaxed outing.

Our dogs had an absolute blast being walked around the picturesque lakes, making our stay even more enjoyable.

A perfect blend of tranquillity, cleanliness, and natural beauty we can’t wait to return.

Special thank you to Liam who came out to us at 10pm when we tripped our electric so sorry Lol .

Disliked: The only dislike if it’s a dislike is radio 2 in the shower blocks would love classical when on the loo…🫢

Liked: Location and setting

Disliked: No cleaning of toilet block
No hot water to handbasins
No water on arrival was advised could fill aqualroll up near reception but this was only open till 5 so had to buy bottled water at own expenses even though paid for fully serviced pitch
Toilets not topped up with toilet roll in men's even though spoke to owners daughter
Facilities only cleaned once in 9 days after prompted this is not hygienic
No reply to some messages or emails to reception
Site needs a clean up as you walk near top lake piles or rubble and rubbish
Such a shame site has such potential
Felt that because was out of season no cleaning of camping facilities
After asking re hot water given access to family facilities these were rusty mouldy shower curtain mouldy and toilet seat moving and falling off
These were not cleaned
No response to email had to stay due to commitments in area

From the manager: Thank you for your comments

Its such a shame you did not enjoy your stay i apologize for the water tap on your pitch being frozen .
unfortunately i cannot control the weather it was minus - 3 and even the lake was frozen 3 inches
thick.
A member of my team cleaned the toilet block every day and advised me how it was left in a disgusting way and the toilet rolls where being taken daily i found this hard to believe as you where the only visitors on site.

As for the piles of chalk on the development next to us i recommend you speak to the owner of the site
as far as i can see they are tree cutting and burning the branches and making good .

I did instruct a member of my team to open up the family shower room so you could gain hot water from there.
it was 10.00 pm at night and this was done last minute to accommodate.

We did try to resond to your emails our office hours are 9.00am - 5.00pm
and staff will not pick up the email until the following day out of these hours.

if you were so unhappy why did you keep extending your stay your first booking was 2 nights.
and you stayed for 9.

Kind regards Liam

Liked: Location and size of pitch

Disliked: Facilities not cleaned or toilet roll left empty for whole stay
No hot water to wash basins
No reply to emails and speaking to managers daughter re no toilet roll in mens and extended stay due to committments
No water on site on arrival not advised before hand given option
Water still in reception area but closed by 5 so couldn't replenish after that had to buy large bottles of water at own expense to fill aquaroll
Eventually given access to family facilities these we rusty mouldy shower curtain mouldy at bottom
Toilet seat hanging off and moving
Dirty these were not cleaned either
There were piles of rubbish and old suitcases and bikes left around the lakes area
There is an area where they will be putting statics this has holes and building products sticking out of ground potential hazard
Reception was not always manned even though we were advised it would be 9 till 5
The site should also advise there is a dog kennel immediately in proximity so you are plagued with barking and excessive howling constantly
This site has all the potential of being great but it seemed like basic to thinks like cleaning and replenishing were not being bothered with out of season or not you pay for a service this wasn't being provided

Local attractions

The long sands of Skegness and neighbouring Ingoldmells are both five miles from Jockhedge Touring Park, and both have a lot more to do after soaking up sun on the beach. Soar around Skegness via kitesurfing or waterskiing; lessons and wetsuit hire are available for brave beginners at Skegness Water Leisure Park. Tiddlers can try splashing about under the sprinklers of the Fairy Dell paddling pool by Skegness’s boating lake or toddling around the tots’ area at Captain Kids Adventure World indoors on the Grand Parade, one of several indoor play centres on this part of coast. Also at Skegness, the Natureland Seal Sanctuary and National Parrot Sanctuary are colourful options for rainy days: if the kids want to get their beaks into more exotic feathered things, Squawk on the Wild Side at Burgh le Marsh’s Lyndhurst Garden Centre has regular shows and displays. The Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, from the southern end of Skegness along the coastline, is where to see birds in their natural environment along its three-mile stretch to the Wash. For all creatures great and small, Hardys Animal Farm at Ingoldmells can be used to calm down at after the jaw-dropping rides of Fantasy Island, which has the world’s longest suspended rollercoaster as well as Europe’s longest looping rollercoaster. Europe’s biggest indoor market is here too (at Ingoldmells, not the rollercoaster): it’s a fairly sure bet that all ages will find something to bring home among its 220 stalls. If not, go to Alford wallet in hand: the ancient market town has a famed farmers’ market once a week, craft markets twice a week in summer, antique shops and Alford Pottery. A bucketful of seaside and market towns are easy to reach from Skegness, such as the ‘bathing beauties’ (beach huts) of Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe to the north; the capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds Louth, and the antique shops and twelfth century church of Horncastle to the west with countryside cycle path running along to Woodhall Spa. Stop off at Woodhall Spa for an afternoon: pine woods surround this viewsome Edwardian village and include a cottage museum and the Kinema in the Woods, reely impressive as one of the first cinemas in Britain. There are also two golf courses (the one at Woodhall Spa Golf Club has been called the best inland course in the country) and a squadron of aviation sites: the Dambusters flew from here and its officers’ mess is now Woodhall’s Petwood Hotel with Squadron Bar. Finally, take at least a day in Lincoln, an hour’s drive from Burgh le Marsh, for its Da Vinci Code cathedral, the Magna Carta at Lincoln Castle and yet more shopping among its cobbled streets.
