  • Five-minutes' drive from Sutton-on-Sea and sandy beaches
  • Weekly fish and chips van during the summer season
Set midway between the eastern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and the sandy beaches of Sutton-on-Sea, The Old Barn Retreat is a peaceful adults-only park for touring caravans located just outside the traditional village of Markby. With spacious pitches, big open skies and well-maintained grounds, this is a prime spot to spend a few days in the great outdoors. The site has a number of handy amenities, including a central decking area with picnic tables, a large facilities block with clean toilets and showers and a chemical waste disposal point. The Old Barn Retreat is a safe spot, with a secure entrance gate and lots of privacy. There are also ornamental features, including a fish pond. Staying here during the summer season? A local fish and chip van pulls up at The Old Barn Retreat every Thursday night (at around 7.30pm) during the peak season to bring tasty chip shop favourites to guests. At other times, it's easy to take yourself down to the pub at Alford (10 minutes' drive) or Sutton-on-Sea (five minutes), where there are also food shops, takeaways and a range of restaurants.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: We had a really relaxing stay, it’s so peaceful and the pitches are very large and level and separated by pretty flower beds.
The whole site is immaculate, well laid out and a haven for wildlife.
With a large dog walking area the site is also very accommodating for dogs.
The facilities are immaculately clean and well maintained and there is everything that you may need.
The owners Paul and Lisa couldn’t be more helpful, this truly is a well cared for site and we can’t wait till we visit again.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Extremely quiet and peaceful place to camp! All you could hear at night were the owls which was lovely. Pitches are big and spaced out well. Lovely seating area with a pond in the middle of the site which was pretty. The bathroom facilities were very clean and tidy and the music in the toilets was a nice touch. Location wise it's great, very close to the beach by car, so it's a great base for exploring. The site was secured and felt safe, I would happily solo camp here and feel safe.
Paul the owner came to say hi and was very friendly and made us feel really welcomed. We are looking to revisit again soon! Thanks for having us! 😊

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful well manicured site, immaculately clean toilet and shower facilities very peaceful. We were next to a honeysuckle tree that made the whole area smell amazing. Excellent location for many local resorts and amenities. Fish and chip van on Wednesday a great added extra. Will definitely be back.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Very pretty and clean site.
Nice sized pitch. Excellent facilities.

Disliked: Just to make other dog owners aware - No dog walks from site as on a busy road with no path.
Owners do provide a small area to let dogs off lead if necessary.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely loved everything about our stay. Everything was so immaculate. Cleanliness was off the scale. A beautiful place, so peaceful. And relatively small amount of pitches meant such a friendly site. A very warm welcome, lovely space for dog walk, the dogs felt very welcome too 😊 And the visit from the ice cream van was the cherry on top. I can't recommend this place enough, can't wait to visit again.

Local attractions

Sutton-on-Sea (five minutes by car) has a wide sandy beach where dogs are welcome. Just to the south there's also the Sandilands Pit Nature Reserve, a wildlife haven with sand dunes and lots of other interesting habitats. Continue along the coast and you'll quickly reach popular seaside spots like Moggs Eye (15 minutes) and Anderby (15 minutes), where there's a beachside café for post-paddle snacks. Inland, the market town of Louth (25 minutes) has a great selection of independent shops, Georgian architecture and fab places to eat. Alternatively, you could pack up a picnic and head off to visit the ruins of Bolingbroke Castle (30 minutes), call in at the local donkey sanctuary (10 minutes) or head into the Lincolnshire Wolds (about a quarter of an hour away) for walks, bike rides and country pubs galore. Lincolnshire's well known as being a hotspot for aviation buffs, and this part of the county is no exception. For exhibits about bomber command during the Second World War, head to East Kirkby's Aviation Heritage Centre (25 minutes). If you're happy to travel slightly further afield, the Battle Of Britain Memorial (45 minutes) is also well worth a visit.
