Cottage-Waters is an adults-only countryside touring park just 10 minutes' drive away from the coast. A few minutes' drive away from the A52, the site is also well situated for exploring the rest of Lincolnshire. Regulars often return year after year to the spacious pitches, which are spread out over 6.5 acres of countryside and feel lovely and private. The large grassy pitches for caravans and motorhomes each have a 16-amp metered electric hook-up point (payable on site), and there's access to a shared chemical point and water supply – but please note there are no toilet or shower facilities here. You're welcome to bring your own gas and solar to stay off-grid if you wish. For evenings out in the open, barbecues are welcome as long as they're raised off the ground (no campfires, please). Dogs are also very welcome (up to two per pitch), and conveniently there's a three-quarters-of-an-acre dog walk on site where they can run free if they have good recall; just note it is not fenced off. What will you get up to while staying here? Look out in any direction from the field for excellent views (and perhaps some wildlife), or get out to explore the local countryside and towns. There are plenty of walks in the locale, as well as pubs, restaurants and cafés a short drive away. A local pub and bus stop are under half an hour's walk from the site too. Skegness, Mablethorpe and Chapel St Leonards are within 25 minutes' drive of the site if you fancy visiting sandy beaches. For outdoorsy adventures, the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape is a 10-minute drive away.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Fantastic ‘adult only’, and dog friendly, site near the coast. I’ve been to this coast many times and have been looking for a place to stay for a few days to take my dog Maggie while the weathers nice. We’ve only had our campervan since Feb so we continue to look for sites and areas to have more adventures and make more memories.

Excellent communication from Michelle. Advising best route to take in my campervan. I did arrive via the narrow lanes, oops. I’d avoid these when it’s dark and use the alternative route as advised by Michelle for caravans and MH.

A very warm welcome from Michelle on arrival and a choice of pitches, we chose the far side looking at the lake. Only 1 other caravan opposite during our stay in that area, they also had dogs. We were also near the dog walking area.

Pitches are very large and all the areas very well maintained. There will be plenty of room for my awning AND my Outhouse when I return to stay for longer (Outhouse for the toilet and shower).
The Elson and water tap was in a clean area, with a nice touch of having disinfectant spray and hand gel available. The Elson grate /lid is quite heavy so be careful when taking it off and putting it back.
Plenty of bins for all types of rubbish.
They do have a fishing lake, not to fish in, and from my camper i often saw the fish jumping above the water, they looked huge!

As for location, they are 15 minutes from Huttoft car terrace which has a massive beach and it goes on for miles either way, or Sutton On Sea. It’s 9 minutes from Huttoft car terrace to Sutton on sea, I parked in the Sandilands car park (as recommended by Michelle). The car park is National Trust and has free toilets. There are 2 sections to the car park, the far one is suitable for overheight vehicles like mine. It’s only £2 all day or free upto 2 hours.
The National Trust cafe is fab, very clean and inviting. The ladies were very friendly and made me a chai latte although it wasn’t on the drinks list. We walked to Sutton, had ice cream and called in at a local cafe Ottimo’s, dog friendly and bought some cake to take back, then walked back.

I was near some trees and I was able to tether off my phone to watch some tv on my tablet.

We’ll definitely be returning and look forward to seeing Michelle and Jon again very soon. Hopefully Jon will have made some more benches for around the lake!

Disliked: Nothing I didn’t like as it was as expected.

Just a point to note, as the site is surrounded by some trees you may want to download some films or programmes to watch in case you can’t get signal off your mobile. If you can’t get signal this will be down to your network provider not the sites WiFi as there is no WiFi.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: This is a super, adults only, camp site, so spacious and peaceful. Beautiful close cut lawned fields. Super views and we enjoyed watching the various wild birds, moorhens and ducks that live around the large pond on the site. The owners, Michelle and Jon, are so welcoming and helpful, they have lots of local knowledge about the area. The site is very well cared for, clean and well thought out. No regimented rows of pitches, which we dislike. Certainly hope to return. There is a lovely static caravan for holiday rental if you don't want to bring your tourer or motorhome. Very pleased that we found Cottage-Waters!

Disliked: Nothing really. There are no toilets or shower, but that doesn't bother us as we tend to use our own caravan facilities anyway. We used our mobile phones as mobile WiFi for our laptops.

Local attractions

With children not allowed on site, it’s your chance to act like a big kid. Head to Mablethorpe (20 minutes’ drive) and the Lincolnshire Aquapark, where you can jump, slide and bounce to your heart’s content on the inflatable course. Afterwards, grab some fish and chips and devour it while sitting on the sandy beach. At the seaside resort of Skegness (20 minutes), you can stroll on the waterfront promenade and along the pier, before heading to the aquarium, where residents include sharks and colourful tropical fish. You can also take part in a monthly yoga session against the background of the fish tanks. A lovely area for walking, Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape (35 minutes) features arable fields, grasslands and woodland populated by hares, butterflies and kingfishers. The Victorian poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, was born in Somersby, in the south-western reaches of this area, whose landscapes informed much of his work.
